Ethernet Controller...?
I just installed Windows 2000 Professional on to an old Thinkpad A20m, (mentioned a while back, works now) and i cant connect to the internet. When i check the device manger it sames that the Ethernet Controller Driver is not installed. Where would i find this driver?
I have been checking around, i searched google, and the IBM website.. and nothing for an Ethernet Controller.. Anyone have Windows 2000 Pro, and wanna help me out? the Internet worked great when i had XP on the machine..
-
Google "thinkpad a20m ethernet driver", it's the first link...
-
I'll try it and see what happeneds, it doesnt seem like it would work at all ..
-
Well, do you have any idea what kind of ethernet hardware your Thinkpad has? I just assumed all a20m models had the same thing, but maybe not. If you know speak up, it will narrow it down.

i dont have a clue. I do know that i cant get that file onto the laptop though.. Its to big for a floppy, is there anyway to get it there without burning it and using a CD ?
-
Look in the device manager where it shows you you're missing a driver, does it say 3Com or Intel or anything about the manufacturer or chipset?
-
nothing at all.. It just says Ethernet Controller
and the rest is all 'unknown'
I know it should work, it worked yesterday when i had XP on it..
-
Most likely you have 3Comm, since on that page it says XP has 3Comm drivers and you said it worked with XP. Download the file, extract it on your PC, figure out which files apply to Windows 2000, hopefully they'll be in a folder and small enough to fit on a floppy.
If it doesn't work, try the Intel drivers.

well.. The Intel Drivers i could fit on a floppy so i tried them, and they didnt work..
So i burned the 3Com ones onto a CD and tried them, and they also did not work..
I think i will try them once more.. but any other ideas?

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...QHA#Networking
That page only lists the 3Comm and Intel drivers for the a20m, so one of them has to work. If neither do, I'm out of suggestions.
