L.A. Power Outage

Power went out at my school. Took about an hour or so to get back on. I knew it happened in the valley, didn't think it was all of LA.

Power never even skipped at my place.

The thing people don't know about Kyoto is that developing nations (i.e. India, China, ect) get free reign for something like 20 years on polluting.

So, while the US, Canada and Japan would actually reduce their pollution, globally the effect is more pollution overall. It gives the developing nations have a chance to "catch up" in their industrialization.

My economics instructor just talked to us about all this a few weeks ago. I can try to get some more information from him if you want, as I haven't really researched this myself. Here's some stuff I googled:

So without Kyoto ALL nations would be polluting whatever the fuck, instead of just the third world ones, and this would lead to less pollution than with Kyoto how?

Third world countries are where the massive increase in pollution will be coming from, not first world countries. ^__^

Its kind of like population - people talk about a population boom, but that shit is going down in 3rd world nations, not first world.

Kyoto was designed to tie the hands of first world countries and affect their economy. Which will, yes, lower pollution in those places. But to what end? By giving third world countries like China and shit all the opportunities in the world to pollute? Fuck that.

If I dole out 10 units of pollution and you dole out 2, that makes 12 units total. With Kyoto I'd be allowed to dole out 8 and you can dole out 4, or even 5 or 6. Which puts 12-14 units of pollution out there. Simplified and contrived but thats the basic idea.

I read New Zealand may have to reneg on the deal to boot, because its just too damn expensive for them.

Kyoto is a failure. Its a good try but its as crippled and worthless as so many other well-meaning international treaty.

i was 5 min away from getting to go home instead of having process lab and the fuckign power comes back on! So i had a 3 hour lab :(
