Possible Sin and Punishment Sequel?
-
Summary please. My time is money and YOU DON'T MAKE THAT KIND OF MONEY!
-
I will post interesting bits from a couple then.
Quote:
GI: Is there any chance we’ll see a sequel to Sin and Punishment?
Maegawa: We are considering it. We are very proud of the quality of that game, that’s why we’re thinking about it.
GI: We were both disappointed that that game never made it over to North America, because we both imported it and loved it, so that’s very good news!
Maegawa: We had finished the localization of the Nintendo 64 version, too. But still, it didn’t get released.
GI: [Billy] I’ll have to talk to some people over there. (laughs)
Maegawa: If we’re going to work on a Sin and Punishment sequel, the game has to be sold in America too. So if the fans want it they should make some noise. (laughs)
Quote:
IGN: "Super" bosses, eh? Does that mean that Seven Force has more forms now -- like Ten Force?
[laughter]
Maegawa: There was actually some talk of doing that. In the design document, we have "Seventy Force" written, along with drawings for all seventy transformations. To make [Seventy Force], it would probably take a year though.
[laughter]
Maegawa: Actually, we originally [referring to the original Gunstar Heroes] created Seven Force as "Five Changer." But during development, we realized that maybe Seven Force would be better.
If we had one more year to develop this game, maybe we could do Seventy Force.
[laughter]
Quote:
1UP: Do you have any involvement with the upcoming Treasure Box compilation coming out in Japan, and if so, is there anything you can tell us about it?
I am involved with the project as a supervisor and will be focusing on ensuring that the three Genesis titles run smoothly. The development will be overseen by SEGA, and we are planning to include various bonus elements.

Now that I know Hideyuki Suganami is freelance I'm going to be miserable until I find out what else he worked on.

Doesn't sound like it will be happening anytime soon....
-
I really hope S&P gets a sequel.
I never got to play the original, which I'm told hasn't aged well, but I do love me some rail shooters.

Nobody told you S&P hasn't aged well. That's just a blatant lie.
-
I've been told it looks like dog shit, which isn't something I recall reading about when the game was first released.
-
It actually still looks pretty good by today's standards. I've had Chao's copy for a while, and I play it at least once a week or so, because it's that badass.

You should also play my Paper Mario. Jerk.

It looks like an N64 game, yeah. It's one of the best looking games on the system, and one of the few to maintain a really solid framerate, but it's blurry and blocky and all that nonetheless. But that doesn't mean the game experience as a whole has aged poorly.
-
I was referring to the graphics, specifically.
I guess I should have mentioned that.
The only person that I know personally who had played it was comparing it to Omega Boost, which he claims has held up much better in the graphics department.
-
It looks better than Omega Boost. OB had very sparse graphics anyway, so it's hardly a good game to compare to.

It both looks and plays like dog shit.
-
I need to get some of whatever your dog is shitting.
-
The graphical style really carries it above any other N64 game, and like Frog mentioned the framerate is amazing for what it does. The enemies look great, of course they can be blocky and what, but it is by far the best rail-shooter ever. Nothing touches it. I have no problems playing it on my RGB monitor.
-
Treasure should re-release S&P with redone graphics- the base gameplay design, level design, and (most) audio would already be done.
-
The graphical style is reminiscent of Vagrant Story, they have the same fat asses and I'm pretty sure it was the same guy that worked on both.
The game is balls out action and is amazing. My favorite level is flying on top of a chunk of telekinetically-controlled aircraft carrier, doing strafing runs on ships, skimming by the water, etc. It's beautiful and intense.
I can see the hate for a lot of games, but not this one. It's fantastic.

You are incorrect. Yasushi Suzuki the guy who did Ikaruga's art did S&P. I compiled his art here since most of it isn't online any more.

It really is almost a perfect game.

It truly is the stand-out level of the entire game. Nothing really comes close in terms of intensity and a feeling of wide-openness. There's boss after boss, and then you fight a huge airship that spits an artificial meteor at a giant robot. Awesome.
-
Not to mention that the giant monster is trying to kill you, and you have to use its shots and your own to take down the meteor before it hits him.
Just balls out, I'm telling you.

5/10

You're crazy. That's crazy talk.
-
He's deliberately trying to get banned for some reason.
-
The Blue Raid will stick out anyones mind for sure, but all the levels are fantastic. But the last level...I mean it starts out as a 2D scroller, and then finishes with a final blowout involving huge bugs, fire breathing dragons, giant lizards, robots, and every soldier that wasn't already dead.

Seems like a waste, might as well just make a sequel or new rail-shooter. There is no problem playing on the N64.
-
Wait wasnt this game done by Treasure, and Nintendo R&D1, and published by nintendo..
Dosen't this make it diffcult to make a sequal, or a remake, or add it to a treasure collection, if didnt land on a nintendo system?

Correct. It'd have to be done with Nintendo's co-operation, as they (jointly) own the rights.

Play S&P on the Xbox, gets rid of the blurriness and you've got better analog sticks. Unfortunately the triggers will be a bit harder on your fingers as they weren't built for the rapid-fire slashing/shooting this game requires.
I'd love a sequel, lord knows this game deserves it.
-
S&P doesn't emulate great, nor does it handle especially well on a controller other than the N64's.

It emulates perfectly, aside from how a certain filter during specific cutscenes doesn't work.

Works great on the Xbox. Aim with the right stick, dash left and right with the d-pad, shoot with the right trigger and jump with the left. Fairly standard controls in this day and age.

The sky in the first level is pretty messed up, and there's some garbage textures and such and effects that don't look right. It's nothing too huge, but it's enough to bug me.

Eh, yeah. It's not a big deal if you're not looking for it, it just comes off as a slightly funky horizon if you stare at it. Even so, a couple of small graphical issues that don't affect the game are hardly enough for me to say it doesn't emulate great.
-
It's enough that I'd still say it looks best on the N64, even at a lower resolution and all.
-
I think it looks way better without the blurring and in 480p but to each their own. That's also why I'd rather use the Xbox for Mario 64 and have ZOoT on my GC instead of the N64, any graphical issues that were designed to stay hidden are a tradeoff to me for the clarity.
[edit] Granted, I've become so anal about that sort of thing that I was absolutely appalled that Darkwatch on Xbox does not support even the hardware video scan switch (it has to be played in 480i, no exceptions). That actually ticked me off a bit, no excuse whatsoever for that lame crap. I just hate my games looking blurry, it's like I'm in constant Smear-O-Vision.

Slightly OT...
I haven't been playing games for some time, what games has Treasure released in the last 2 years or so? Have they released their new gunstar game?

wtf, it's xS... Where have you been?
In the last 2 years, Treasure has released:
Wario World: A solid 3D platformer that feels like a 2D platformer. It's a ton of fun, but it's one of the easiest games I've ever played, which hurts it in the long run.
Dragon Drive D-Masters Shot: It's half rail shooter and half free-roaming shooting action game. It's quite playable, but really ugly, unpolished, and based on a kind of annoying liscense. Worth playing, but not anything special.
Astro Boy: Omega Factor: Extremely awesome side-scrolling action title on GBA that feels like a retread to Treasure's 16-bit days. Tons of bosses, creative levels, beautiful graphics... It's a must-own.
Gradius V: It feels almost like a mating of Gradius and Salamander with some nice twists. Injects a shot of adrenaline into Gradius' heart. Awesome bosses. Maybe too long, with too gentle a curve for the hardcore shooting audience, but still a must-play.
Advance Guardian Heroes: Long-awaited sequel. It doesn't play anything like Guardian Heroes, and it's pretty ugly to boot, but it does have a really solid, enjoyable combat engine. The difficulty curve is a little wacky, too, but all said it's still one of the better beatemups on the GBA.
Gunstar Super Heroes comes out next month, and is reported to rock the proverbial house.

I started playing this a week ago and it is truly extremely awesome. Their best in a long time, though likely to be toppled by GSH.

I actually had this thought as well.
