All is well until Chaos resorts to the legendary power of alchemy to save
his sister. Now two orphans, Felt and Viese must save Eden from
crumbling. Felt transports to Belkhyde with the power of his azoth. It is up
to Felt to stop Chaos’ mad quest, while Viese struggles to protect Eden
from further destruction.

Yeah. Not that Eternal Mana 1 was unplayable, but there were seven or eight scenes in the game which took a little longer to load than most games would normally take that scared me. Here's hoping...

What, no love for Popo's tutorials? Those were the most memorable parts of the game for me. Stella Deus's main memories for me all involve how perfect the streamlined control setup is.

Well... Some of the j-voices certainly were cute. I was all hearts whenever Norn or Popo talk.

Nothing wrong with Stella Deus, just wasn't popular. (see the thread, i'm a supporter!) I didn't think Atelier Iris would be either, but kids today like their N1, even as just a publisher. I could've just as easily said Riviera, another great game that'll likely be forgotten.

when I think of Atelier Iris, all I can think of is Extended Plays review of it calling it the worst game they ever played & X-Play's 1 out of 5 score

You're thinking of a different game then, X-play gave Atelier Iris a 3 out of 5.

Really? Wow, I don't even remember turning the Jap voices on in my game. The English ones were pretty cute, so I kept them. And overall, I'd give the game an 8. It had an equal share of problems and charm, keeping it from anything higher. Still worth anyone's time, imo.

Rocca, I turned them on for a little bit just to see how they were, then I realized that I missed the English cast, and went back to them for good. Really great voice work too, playing the emotion and the comedy when needed. There were a few rough spots though, especially early on.

The Extended Play review? There was no Extended Play review of Atelier Iris. Extended Play had been off for years when AI came out. Maybe you're thinking of Judgement Day, the other review show on G4 that is vastly inferior to almost everything else in gaming when it comes to reviews (except IGN and especially bullshit HALO 2 strategies and critiques by MarkRyan).

Did anybody else pick up this game besides me? I am about 20 hours in and I am enjoying it as much as the first one. The Alchemy is improved and more streamlined, and the music is just as awesome as the first game. They recycled a lot of the enemies from the first game but the great high-res 2D art is still in effect. I also like the dual character story line and there is way less backtracking.

Yeah, I have it but I never really had the chance to sit down and play it. I have a friend whose at the before last chapter and really enjoys it.

Did you put English or J voices?

I put it on English, but I turned off the event voices. All I can stand are the battle voices.

Wow... I got it too, but I had the exact opposite reaction. The localization and battles are better, the art and graphics are just as good, but the characterizations are shallow and the alchemy requires more backtracking. I plugged in my AR because I was sick of running out of wonder grow and 400G mushrooms. The latter should've been 10-100x cheaper based on how heavily you have to use them. Overall, the basic reactions are too complex and lengthy in AI2... IIRC, only the Chronolex was as multi-tiered in AI1. This is a game, not organic chem! :p

You know you only have to make a mana item one time with the girl using the materials and then when you are Felt you can make as many as you want only using mana power? I make like 50 wonder grows at a time with Felt so I never run out. The alchemy is better in this one because of that fact, plus you can carry more than 9 alchemy ingredients at a time.

I played the first Atelier Iris game, and I loved the art design, the battle system, and the alchemy system. I ended up beating the game, but I didn't really enjoy it. The storyline was just way too slow paced, and it was never really compelling. I felt like I was playing the game just to play it, and there was never any feeling of urgency to actually beat the game. I know many of you like the "laid back" atmosphere of the first game, but it really put me to sleep. The only reason I really beat the game is because I enjoyed the visuals and battle system. Is the second game any better than the first game, or is it still really "relaxed" and slow paced?

How do you do that!? :eep: I thought if you whip up something during a battle you can't use it afterward.

You just go into the menu (as the guy, Felt), go to Mana Items, and then you pick the "make mana items" option. You can only make items if the chick in Eden has made at least one. After that as long as you have enough, say fire mana elements, you could make as many as it will allow you. I can't believe you have been making everything from scratch, no wonder the game was pissing you off, noob! :p

Thanks, usually I don't overlook that sort of thing. :bang: Well, that takes care of the item problem, although AI2 still lacks Veola. Viese is not depressed/suicidal/cynical enough for my taste. j/k
