Another terrorist bites the dust
Last night, the FBI cornered Puerto Rican terrorist Filiberto Ojeda Rios in a ranch in the town of Hormigueros (about 15 minutes from my house!). He resisted and a gunfight ensued, in which he was killed and his wife and one FBI agent were wounded.

The independence movement here (all 5% of the electorate of them) are proclaiming him a martyr and are outraged, since his death occured on the same day that they celebrate "El Grito de Lares," which was the day that PR declared it's independence from Spain 137 years ago, only to have its leaders betrayed by Spanish loyalists.
If you've never heard of him, Ojeda was the leader of the "Ejercito Popular Boricua" (Puerto Rican Army of the People) - Los Macheteros," a radical group of nationalists who were responsible for several terrorists acts over the years, including:
- A January 1981 attack, in which Macheteros commandos infiltrated a Puerto Rican Air National Guard base and blew up 11 planes, causing approximately $45 million in damages.
- The September 12, 1983, armed robbery of $7.2 million from the Wells Fargo Depot in Hartford, Connecticut.
- In the 1990s Los Macheteros claimed responsibility on a bomb explosion that occurred in a small power station in the Puerto Rican metropolitan area. The explosion damages left some Puerto Ricans without electricity.
Ojeda Rios was also the founder of the Armed Revolutionary Independence
Movement (MIRA in Spanish), which was responsible for several terrorist acts in the 70s, including the bombings of a NY police station, General Electric’s corporate headquarters, several New Jersey grocery stores, and a bank.
Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.
