Figured I might as well make this official as I do not see another major thread on this game. Post all your impressions and opinions on the game here whether it be the import rev, or leading up to the U.S. port. Very positive impressions from IGN on the TGS build of the game here:

Sounds like the camera split option and other typical Joe "cinema mechanics" are complimented very nicely by the touch screen. Oh yeah, and check out the videos, impressively close to the Cube games:

I've never played Joe myself - just watched my friend play. With my current DS obsession, I might check out this version and see what I thnk of the game.

Excellent series. Beautiful use of cel shading/comic book visuals, very nice 2D beat 'em up system and overall great atmosphere (Joe and Sylvia are a very hip and funny couple, lots of Japanese superhero/Ultraman type homages). I'm sure you can find the first game for cheap. Using the various camera and slow down tricks to kill 'n combo the bad guys is hella addictive.

I've seen the cube versions of both games for $10 apiece, and that's in Canada.

Damn, that does look very impressive for the DS.

Hopefully more games like this will come out and force other companies to stop gimping their 3D. The DS can do a little better than N64 graphics, but the devs can't seem to bother working towards anything that looks better than a low-tier PS1 game.

I'm amazed at how little visual downgrading has been done, and I'm sure it'll look better on the system.

Sad that the best looking 3D DS game is still Mario 64. VJ is gonna give the 3rd party devs a run for their money visually. Hopefully it will make some decent sales.

Last week IGNDS had a daily update on the various touch screen features of the game with full details and videos (gives you a better look at the graphics than the trailer, the game looks so flippin' sweet). Here is the first part, the rest are indexed on the middle-right side of the page:

Sliding and Scratching are the two most fucking annoying and counter-intuitive things I've done using a DS. Having spent a week with the game, I have carpal-fucking-tunnel syndrome from having to juggle shit.

It's pretty and it's Viewtiful Joe. Fans will eat it up regardless of how badly mangled their wrists become.

The DS is a lot more powerful than the N64 in every area aside from polygons per second (about even). The CPU is essentially twice as fast, it can do far more with color, and it has far more texture memory. There's no reason a DS game can't look like a PSP game aside from polygon count really.

OK dude, I DON'T need my VJ thread derailed by a debate on DS vs PSP. Mmmmm, k? This is blatant bait right here. I dunno about "as good as PSP" but yes, VJ shows that the DS hardware can create very nice graphics. 'NUFF SAID.

this came out today havent played with it much but seriously how come capcom/clover studios can make a game that looks this freaking good and all EA can do is make sub-N64 looking games

Okay why is Nintendo allowing all these games to be jammed into the hoilidays all at the same time. Space some stuff out Nintendo.

It was supposed to be out tuesday, everywhere I went said it wasn't coming out until today. Today, everyone says it's not coming out until tommorow. I think I'm just going to wait until someone else sees it at retail to try again at this point. I picked up Viewtiful Joe 2 for Cube today to get my fix, 15 bucks new at EB (By new I mean opened with a beat to fuck case and a fingerprint covered disc of course).

pesonally Im really liking the new slide VFX some interesting stuff done with it so far, scratch I haven't really used much. I'm really liking the game so far and again Im amazed that clover studio can do this with the game and yet EA can barely texture a single polygon in their DS games

Yeah, that was my reaction. It was pushed back to late November then got pushed back up I guess. Was real tempting not to pick it up today but I gotta wait till I get my paycheck next monday otherwise I am stretched. :sweat:

edit re: Shin Johnpv I was thinking today, if only the DS had texture filtering can you imagine how much better it would look than it already does? Anyways, based on your impressions I am locked to get it now.

After Turok syndrome overtook so many N64 games I wouldn't be suprised if Nintendo left it out of the hardware on purpose; mainstream opinion seemed to be that jagged pixelated graphics were more appealing than blurry ones (although N64 games in 2005 are far easier on the eyes than PS1 games).

So anyone pick it up? Been out about two weeks so far and I've seen it at EB and that's it. *-neo

I saw it at Best Buy last week, but I've got too much on my gaming plate to get this anytime soon.

Like i said earlier in this thread I got it the day it came out (at a gamestop) and I love it I made it about half way through the game then Mario Kart DS came out and I have to be honest with its online play and such it's taken up the majority of my gaming time so I haven't had a chance to get back into Viewtiful Joe

for me VJ DS has the same kind of impact I guess you would say as the first VJ, where the first one felt so fresh and new and it was something different, thats kind of how i feel about this one, using the touch screen in this game is pretty fun and it opens up some different style puzzles to solve and such

This is one of the many DS games I'll be picking up in the beginning of next year; between Mario Kart DS online, Sk8land DS online, and Animal Crossing in a week and a half my DS is pretty stuffed.

Another DS title on my list of "Games To Get" I own VJ & VJ2 on the Gamecube, so hopefully VJ:DS will make a worthy addition to my collection.

Like Shin and Spo I am now consumed by Mario Kart DS. Next paycheck I will get this and Tokobot. But if not enough money then Tokobot comes first. :sweat:

Interesting take btw Spo that part of the reason they left out filtering was due to all the N64 "blur" complaints.

Hunters and New SMB are just the tip of the iceberg for next year besides 3rd party cake we saw at TGS.

Well, I finally got around to buying this. Took back some crap component cables to Best Buy today and while browsing through the DS titles noticed it was only $19.99. Love it so far, it's amazing how close it is to the GC rev for gameplay. Less enemies on screen of course, but the slow mo is all there. Graphics are impressive for a DS game as mentioned before (can't wait to see this on a Lite). The scratch takes some getting used to but not as bad as you would think. Only on the first stages but am really enjoying the game so far.

edit: Been experimenting with the scratch and split more, love it. Rubbing the screen to rain down debris on the robots is simple and great fun.

This game always looked interesting to me but the complete lack of unlockables turned me off. Every VJ game should have unlockable difficulty levels and characters.

I have to admit I haven't yet brought myself to finish VJ2. I can't put my finger on it, it just doesn't have the magic of the original.
