The weapons are varied and useful. I'm not really sure what makes them "boring" beyond being mostly modeled on tried and true archetypes. They shoot shit dead in a variety of different ways that demand different strategies, but are all effective. That'll all you need.
And lol at Halo balance.Ok, I'm not denying that Prey goes for a very oldschool-styled deathmatch in a lot of ways, but the things it adds are not "slight". It adheres to an older school of design, but adds plenty of its own, which makes it no less original than a game that adheres to equally tired newschool conventions and adds some good ideas to that. Innovation is measured in the departures not the conventions.
Anyway, enough about Prey. I only brought it up because of the debate over level design, because I think that's an area where it excels. It's not like my favorite FPS or anything. I just find Halo to be completely flavorless and bland. I hate it for the same reasons I hate Warpath; It's not that its bad, it's just half assed cliche generica, with uninspired levels compensated for by high player counts. In a word: disposable.
