I believe you need the disc to play the demo.

In tradition with other bungie happenings, probably not until the afternoon. Our codes were mailed and the beta was available for redemption at 1pm. They tend to have events happen between noon and 3pm the day they're supposed to go live, so I wouldn't bother waiting at midnight for something to happen.
Might be different since the beta is already up, and maybe your codes will become valid at midnight (WA time, always) but I wouldn't count on it.
It's not a normal download, either. You have to enter your code like it's a MS Point card (Redeem Code in the marketplace) to even see the beta. It's NOT listed as a new demo/release/anything on the marketplace, at least it wasn't for the F&F kids. Without a code I don't think you can even see it listed anywhere.
Heh.
That's exactly how the download for the Shadowrun Beta was also, so it isn't the first time they have done this. For the Crackdown people though, all we need to do is insert out disc and goto "Download", and the Beta option is there. It has actually been there since the day we got the game, we just haven't been able to use it.
And the Beta according to the countdown should be available at 8am EST, right after I fucking goto work those bastards! So not only am I going to have to sit at work all day knowing I could be playing Halo 3, but I will also have to sit around while it takes forever to download after I get off of work.
Looks like a Wii game imo.
Because Halo multiplayer is a lot of fun!
And a heads up, Bungie updated their site with Beta info.

BM, it does not take forever to download. It's under a gig and I had a shitty connection and I still got it really quickly. It shouldn't be an agonizing wait at all.
