Hooray for the new Halo 2 maps, imo.Quote:
-Early this morning, Bungie's parent company Microsoft announced that next spring, it will stage an open beta test for the multiplayer aspects of Halo 3.
-Microsoft announced today that Halo 2, the massive Xbox hit which has seen four billion Xbox Live games played to date, will also be getting a series of "all-new multiplayer maps" next spring. However, unlike previous Halo 2 downloads, the new maps will only be available to Xbox 360 owners.
Wow, as if the beta for 3 wasn't totally awesome I was taken totally by suprise of the announcement of new maps for 2. Next spring is going to be good times indeed.
Best....news.....EVAR!
The need for the public to beta test Halo 3 only seems to prove the point that Microsoft couldn't be rushing this game any quicker. Sugar-coat that fact with "exclusive gameplay sessions before the game launches!!!" and no one cares.
By rushing you mean it has been in development since before Halo 2 launched over 2 years ago? I wouldn't call a 3 year development cycle rushing anything, especially since they could have very easily done an internal beta test like they did with Halo 2 and gotten the product out in the same amount of time.
I think the Public beta test is to get all the online glitches fixed. I think thats a good idea EVAR! More companies as they go to online multiplayer on consoles should follow suit ... UBISOFT you listening?
Ok so the Beta is or was today, I don't have access to a 360 right now so I don't know if its ongoing or if it was a limited thing.
Also, new TV commercial has hit the web, with another one on xbox live.

Marketing works on me. Gimme.
Pretty hot stuff. So uhh, the X button is for one time shield use? Ca m'intrigue...
Mark my words, it won't be a shield button. It will be a shield grenade, a 4th type of grenade for the game, to make the total number of grenades you can carry back up to 8. And my prediction is that you can use it not only on yourself, but also on your team mates to provide protection for them.
I also predict that the X button will be for a completely different feature that they may not reveal until close to, or even until the game is released.
Maybe its a run button then. Push X once to go into sprint mode, push it again to turn it off. Kinda stupid since you have to take your thumb off the stick but, maybe its done that way for a reason. Like if your in the middle of a fire fight you cant sprint away like a little bitch.
I also cant get the site to load to let me register, hopefully I can do it tomorrow.
The most overrated franchise ever.
But that video is fucking sweet.
...but unmountable.
YouTube ftw.
I couldn't register all day.
Bungie said they're going to try to get everyone that wants the beta in on it, so it sounds like it's not so much a limited beta as it is just really hard to sign up because of the volume of people trying at once.
http://www.xboxyde.com/news_3863_en.html
Youtube is for losers.
I was able to get in this morning no problem.
Speaking of limited, 5 spots for NZ, 10 for AU.
laff
:(
So was the registration really just that one page asking for your name and address and such?
It seems like it never went out of it's way to ask what my live tag was, but since you're signed into the .net account I suppose that would be redundant.
I think I may have fucked it up then, I have three e-mail accounts I use and I don't know which I put in the e-mail field for the registration. Was I automatically logged into the Passport crap so it won't matter or do I have to register again? I really don't pay attention very well.
Yeah, shit, I definitely put in a different e-mail address on the registration form than the one that's tied to my Passport account.
edit: whoa, epmode deleted his post?
It shouldn't matter which email address you put in since you were in the .net account.

ZOMG RUMOR MILLQuote:
The rumor goes like this: In six days time, a 7-minute video will appear on Xbox Live Marketplace detailing the origin of the Brutes. Allegedly, the video will contain several minutes of gameplay footage revealing the Brutes to be a playable class in Halo 3.
Who would play as Brutes?
You'd just be a massive target begging to get hit. Just like Elites and their fucking enormous heads.
Maybe they'll give each class different attributes this time. Not that I'm expecting such, but since no one plays as Elites maybe they'll want to give a reason to do so this time around.
The guy who was in charge of creating Halo 2's matchmaking system has left Bungie to form his own studio. One of the first tasks his new studio will do is make those new Xbox 360-only maps for Halo 2.
Weird.
The video doesnt really show too much. Everything that is shown of Halo 3 is really really early.
Is it up online anywhere yet?
did i just see a guy dual wield two plasma swords?
I never once saw an Elite using two plasmas at once. I just finished replaying Halo 2 last night as well.
Hooray, now we get to one-shot-kill stuff TWICE as fast.
Did they always have that green blood?
From what I remember Elites have never used dual plasma swords in actual gameplay. Only in different art relating to the Halo universe. I very well could be wrong though.
Nope, they didn't. They also never had blood that splattered either.
I could have sworn I saw an Elite with two swords in the first Halo, but yeah, maybe it was just in the graphic novel.
Just saw on CAG that there is an ad in the new issue of Gamepro for Crackdown. On the bottom right corner of the ad it says it includes an invitation to the Halo 3 beta.
Smart move by MS. That will definitely sell a few copies of a game that doesn't look all that great to a few idiots who want an invitation that badly.
Thanks MS for just not putting the video up at all in europe except for in the UK. It's not like 60$(well actually it's 87$) is that much for me to spare but something cool every once in a while would be nice.
I was pretty underwhelmed by the video, actually. The game has a loooong way to go visually. Nothing like the "this is the way the world ends" trailer, that's for sure.
I think they are showing too much too soon. Just stay quite until the beta comes out.
Gameplay video filmed by an absolute RETARD:

Come on, TNL. Halo 3.
It's, like, bigfoot footage of gameplay.
wtf is there to talk about
It's true, no, Bigfoot footage was more interesting.
WTF was that? "Is it recording?" Are you fucking kidding me?
Yay! More blur!
Looks like the bar at the top of the screen could either be a health meter or a guage telling how much sprint the player has (if this is, in fact, what Bungie is incorporating into Halo 3). Otherwise, I'm glad nothing looks like it's changed too much.
All I want is online co-op. C'mon Bungie, is that so much to ask?
No, I lie. I also don't want to play as the Arbiter or any other fucking alien. Master Chief straight through, please. Leave the multiple races for multi-player.
OR.
I could just play as the Arbiter.
I liked the Arbiter :(
Keith David FTW.
Seriously, how is the plot going to shape up, I wonder? Will we see Elites and Marines fighting alongside each other?
The third grenade is most likely going to be the temporary shield grenade we saw Master Chief use in the Halo 3 TV commercial.
In the Halo 3 Brute video, the developers stated that the Elites have left the Covenant, so I'm sure we'll see situations where the Marines and the Elites will fight what's left of the Covenant.Quote:

Having failed miserably at obtaining entry into this Spring's Halo 3 beta program, you'll no doubt be pleased to learn of yet another opportunity to partake in first-person shooting and having your sexuality questioned by obnoxious brats. In fact, there are 13,333 such opportunities -- all you need to do is endure three hours of Halo 2 online.
It's easy. Play Halo 2 online for three hours between Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, 12:01 a.m. EST and Feb. 3, 2007, 11:59 p.m. EST. If you survive, rush to the official Halo 3 website and be part of the first 13,333 gamers to register in the "Rule of Three" program. If, however, you end up being number 13,334 ... well, you'll have to buy Crackdown.
As previously reported, copies of Crackdown will contain invites to the Halo 3 beta program. Releasing on February 20, the game disc will act as a key to download the required data from Xbox Live Marketplace. Microsoft promises to release further information regarding the program for each region, though NTSC importers stuck in exotic countries may wish to consider the Crackdown route in the meantime.
This circlejerk crap is stupid. Why not just make it a public beta for anyone to try out?
Man. That's the best incentive to buy a game since the MGS2 demo in ZOE.
That kind of marketing doesn't really bode well for the quality of Crackdown.
There are people who didn't get into the first sign up?
They announced the winners to the email-based signup already? I guess I wasn't picked.
Yeah, when were people notified?
Wait wait wait.
You mean singing up on that page wasn't a sure in? It was just entry into some drawing? WTF is that?
The first 13,333 people got in. Notices havent gone out yet
I heard the sign ups were also the first 13,333.
You heard wrong. Straight from Bungie's site:

I understood it wasn't open. I was just under the impression that they were going to shut down sign ups when they were full. Not let everyone sign up and tell us later if we got in.
I'm hoping they look at who played Halo 2 a fuck ton when picking people. If Brand and I don't get in there's no fucking justice in this world.
All logic says the kids who jumped ship a month into Halo 2 for WoW will get into the beta.
Meanwhile Brand, Nomi and myself will commit ritualistic suicide.
lol
It'd be pretty amazing if I got in and Nomi didn't.
Sometimes I wonder, do you realize that no one wants you here?
Honestly, this is a serious question. Do you understand that not one person on this site likes you?
just fyi, this is the only thing you ever reply back to me. it's old.
on that note.

It's because it's true.
I mean, someone who is hated by literally every person the board thinking that they matter is fascinating. The bombshell that goes off when this all clicks for you is going to be incredible.
I hope to god Opaque doesnt get in the beta.
Opaque versus Dyne.
Whoever wins, we all lose.
I'm not worried about getting into the beta at all, because if I don't get in from the original sign up that happened I'll just buy Crackdown. Even if it's an average game, I'll get at least $60 worth of enjoyment out of both the Halo 3 beta and blowing shit up and jumping over buildings in Crackdown.
