That sounds really hard to do.
The Team Ninja interview in a PSM from a few months back says that they won't do 1080p. If the demo does support 1080p natively, then I'll be surprised.
Here is an interview from march, gamepro.
Halo3.com updated today with 2 pieces of interesting information. First is story related, apparently the Elites have turned against the Covenant and joined up with the Humans to fight the Prophets, Brutes, Grunts, and Jackles. And second, the the Pistol from Halo 1 WILL be making a return. 2x zoom and all.
Pistol AND Battle Rifle = :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
Press to talk = :td:
Fuck that, proximity chat makes for some really awesome team situations.
Boo hiss on press to talk, but at least this time the button will be easier to press than the white button (or was it black) on the Xbox 1 controller.
Kind of interesting (but not surprising) that the Elites are on your side since they were the main enemies in Halo 1 and 2. Even with this, I still hope we don't get any Arbiter levels.
I never minded press to talk. It never interfered with gameplay at all, plus you could talk with anyone within a pretty decent proximity. And besides having to hear annoying kids every once in a while, hearing your enemies, and them being able to hear you adds another layer of depth to team games.
Lose the radar pls.
fyi, there are game modes without the radar. In fact, all MLG play is done with out the radar, and all games in Team Hardcore.
Is Team SWAT back? I liked that lots.
Yep, Team Swat is back. It's has actually been back for a while. Plus the new maps should be added to Team Swat this week. It's definitely my favorite playlist to play whenever I decide to hop on for a few games.
man, i haven't played in so long. I'm feeling the fever, so i think i'll hop on for some games once my xbox gets back from being repaired.
Tomorrow is going to be so awesome. I'm getting really giddy about it.
What's tomorrow?
Stop flaunting your F&F beta. Jerk.
Damn you wench!
Hey, I didn't find out until last night that I was in. I'm allowed to be really happy for it :D
Yeah, you are, and I'm just jealous since I have to wait till next Wednesday, and I have to work all day, so really Wednesday night.
Halo 3 Beta video is up on Bungie.net:
http://www.bungie.net/News/content.a...news&cid=12432
Beta downloading. Check your bungie.net PM box, they sent out a few thousand F&F invites to 'community members' which probably includes Opaque.
911.17 MB. I'll be on in three minutes, it's almost done :D
Let us know, does it really look like Halo 2.5?
First impressions: 1, it's amazing. 2, I keep hitting X to reload and can't get my brain around the bumper reloading. 3, I hate d-pad to talk, a lot. A lot.
This is amazing though. I'm not doing too bad despite the changes, 30 kills on my first game. The new grenade is excellent and dual spikers are the new dual needlers, but more fun.
MORE DETAILED IMPRESSIONS!!!
Plus send me your 360 so I can play.
ajfhjksfhkjfh
The spartan laser is sooooo fun, and the missle pod is pretty cool too. I'm having trouble with the deployable things because I'm not used to the X button not being reload. I keep accidently deploying trip mines and shit like that ;_;
You playing on a SDTV?
So are the maps any good? Is Higher Ground the new Zanzibar? Is Snowbound as sweet as Bungie describes it as?
Yes I'm on SDTV. Yes the maps are good, but I've only played Valhala, Snowbound and something else.
There are only 3 maps, so that would make sense.
How about that. :)
Also, the sensitivity seems to be significantly higher on this than H2. And post-mortem grenade kills are now a medal, which is cool.
Yeah. It looks like Halo 2 downscaled from hi-def with more particles and better textures.Quote:
Let us know, does it really look like Halo 2.5?
Game itself seems pretty solid though.
I think I remember a few people expressing concern that the bubble shield would really change gameplay or something... But it doesn't. Deployable items are not overpowered at all and I haven't noticed them really changing any game dynamic. If someone deploys a bubble, you just melee in and hope for the best. It's not like they move with you.
Nomi quit sitting away on your 360 and play Halo 3.
I'm in a lobby right now you loser.
Xboxyde has some HD videos up, and I don't know what Tain is talking about saying the game is just an upscaled version of Halo 2 with better textures, because the game looks damn good. It's not Gears quality good, but it has some solid fucking next gen visuals. I suppose it could have been that he was seeing it on an SDTV, or that he may just be blind.
Secondly, holy awesome at the chain gun! Nomi, is the chain gun as awesome as it looks?
<3 Nomi. I'm just jealous that you can play the game and I can't, so don't mind my bitterness. I tried playing Halo 2, but it just wasn't the same knowing that people are playing Halo 3.
The chain gun blows. You move at 1/3 speed or something and it's not that accurate... Honestly, I would rather have a BR in most situations unless you're being charged by 3 people.
That's too bad, because it looks fucking sweet. Maybe they will tweak that for the final game and make it so you don't move like an elephant. You're a Spartan, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to carry a chain gun run at full speed and jump over buildings. /they should put the Agent from Crackdown in Halo 3, he could whoop ass with the Chaingun.
Yeah, but the other deploys are pretty cool. I really dig the trip mine, I had some fun with it against a Mongoose. And the spartan laser is soooo fun to land a kill on. "You were lasered by x" is a sad death.
Have you tried out the power drainer yet? If so, what's that thing do?
PS. Quit taunting me with invites, I hate you forever for it.
The power drainer is a bubble shield, essentially, that has the reverse purpose. It's like being constantly SMGd if you're too close, friendly or foe. Chucking the power drainer in a busy fight and backing the fuck up can take down some enemies really well, but you can destroy your teammates if you don't warn them.
Also, bubble shield while carrying flag=awesome.
And grenades are weak now. There went my technique.
Assault: You plant the bomb instantaneously. Then you have 15 seconds in which the bomb can be disarmed by the defensive team. It's waaaaaay weird to me right now, but I like it. territories is also a fun gametype now, it's done with a round system. Way cool.
It looks like Halo 2 if Halo 2's level geometry was of the same quality as the models, I guess. "2.5" is a little harsh, and I'm not saying the Xbox could do it or anything, but it looks pretty plain to me. I'm sure it'll be gorgeous once Bungie implements all of the things they were talking about.Quote:

And yeah, the SDTV crapped things up a bit.
Just curious, I can't tell from the videos, but does this thing run at 60 FPS? Or is it just stuck at 30?
30.
That's inexcusable if true.
Here's the link to said HD videos. Now that TVersity has been patched, you can use it to stream the videos to your 360 and get a better picture of what the public beta will look like.
That's how the buildings always have been due to the art direction. The Halo series has always had a very geometric and blocky style for all of its architecture. And I don't think it's a surprise at all that Halo 3 would have the same art style as the previous 2 games, so to be disappointed by it means you were really just expecting something that was really never going to happen.
It's not just the architecture, Cap'n. The cliffsides are blocky as hell, too. As are the trees, and everything else in the game. It doesn't look terrible or anything. Hell if it was a launch game, it'd be damned good. But now that next gen has hit it's stride it seems disappointingly meh, visually.
Just as an observation, I had fun crouching around and zooming in on a lot of the environment. They added some great water effects... Ff your dead body falls into the water, you hear everything distorted as if you're submerged, water flows around you when you walk in it, water slows down the electrically-run Mongoose, etc. They added in some decent plant life on Valhalla in particular, it makes it look pretty scenic at a few points.
I'm also digging the weapon placement. They're not in stupid, out of place locations. Guns are leaning up against objects that seem more appropriate, so it's not a case of 'oh hey there's a shotgun out in the middle of nowhere.'
Distant fire sounds are also amazing. I got a real kick out of them; it really does a great job of giving the impression of a battle going on, and you can tell where there's fire going on exactly by the sounds. If I had 5.1 maybe it'd be better, but I think it sounds great. That was really impressive to me on my first match.
Saw this on GameHead last night, it could easily be mistaken for Halo 2.
Which, if true, would still make it the best looking game on the Wii, which you love.
So go away.
Don't be silly.
I mean, I'm not too impressed, but I would never mistake it for Halo 2.

edit: Fuck, didn't notice it was kbuchanan.
lawl.
I wanted to say this last night.
No one really notices when your head is getting blown off by a Shotty in da face. Or a Spartan Laser to the chest. Yeah sure you'll look around at first. But when the battle kicks in ... you'll be more worried about getting blasted.
The point of Halo games are the multiplayer and how well it works for a console. I know your on Crysis's dick and all, but give this shit a rest.
Honestly, no. Go back and play Halo 2. The art direction is so similar, but your memory of how Halo 2 looked is a bit skewed because of all the media for Halo 3 you've been seeing forever. In addition, the physics of body motion and melee attacks are significantly different. Bodies fly backward if you kill someone with a melee attack. Dust flies up from grenade explosions, etc.
Some of the differences are subtle but if you were to look at the two games side by side you'd be hard pressed to say there's no difference.
Without resorting to GAF-style bullshit, it is probably best to stick to actual in-game screenshots of Halo 2 than something like that (ultrahigh resolutions, ridiculous antialiasing, etc).
Still, Frog's right. It's very much an incremental upgrade. I'd be more disappointed, but I didn't think Halo 2 looked particularly good in the first place.
edit: Maybe they spent all this time working on online co-op, rather than the graphics, ololol.
I'll defend it because yeah, playing between the two in the same day, the H3 beta is a lot better looking to me. And it's the beta, I sort of expect it to look more polished as a final product. Valhalla in particular just looks a lot better in action than, say, Coagulation.
Looks a bit underwhelming, 60fps and some destructable enviroments whould have been nice. Never understood why there can't be more than 16 people either but I guess Bungie knows a little more than I when it comes to making stuff work.
What about the button setups, can you change so that you melee and grenade on the shoulder buttons?
I don't know how well Halo would translate to >16 players (I prefer smaller games, myself,) but the no-dedicated-servers thing has a lot to do with it. I don't know why MS is so allergic to the idea, especially considering that XBL is a pay-for service.
I just thought they would take it to another level with that troop transport thingy they showed before H2. Coagulation with wraiths, jeeps, banshee's but only double the amount would have been cool imo.
And yea they should hook us up with some dedicated servers.
Dave Halverson is going to drown in his own jizz.Quote:

Did Master Chief grow a third arm or something?Quote:

Well, to be fair you picked a good screenshot of Halo 2 (Vista) and probably the worst screenshot of Halo 3 where nothing is going on. If you watch the HD videos of the Halo 3 beta there is just no way you're going to confuse it for Halo 2.
I just want to play this shit now.
If by "put those comments in perspective", you mean "make those comments seem ludicrous", then yes.
It's no Gears (or your new game of choice), but it's better than most. Better than most.
Taking anything Frog says about Halo, or any other FPS seriously is laughable. This is the guy who was applauding Prey for having "creative, balanced, and varied level design", while at the same time saying everything in Halo is "Lazy, overdone crap".
I liked Prey ;/
But his MO seems to be, "If it's a PC-like game on a console, let me find ways to bash it even if they aren't accurate"
Prey was a solid game and I really enjoyed it before it killed my 360. But to go and call the multiplayer in Prey "creative, balanced, and varied", and then call the multiplayer in Halo in the same sentence "Lazy, and overdone" is completely asinine.
Halo 3's graphics are probably under a lot of scrutiny because it's arguably the biggest release in the next-gen era to date. However, Halo and Halo 2 weren't the most graphically impressive games on the original Xbox either, and I don't expect Halo 3 to blow everything away graphically. I do expect it to be a nicely-presented and excellent-playing game, just like the first two games. Judging from the beta videos, it's more than lived up to my expectations.
Prey MP was total ass.
If this plays wel, runs smoothl and the single player is complete, no one will care anyway.
I have a feeling there's going to be some crazy set pieces in the single player to go through. Crazy outdoor/indoor wars with bat shit particle and lighting effects.
God I hope the environments are better then they were in 2. Pretty much once you got off of Delta Halo, and until you were the Chief again on the cruiser the level design was fucking awful. Who would have thought that the Library could be even worse after the atrocity that the Library was in number 1.
I really just hope the first level kicks as much ass as it did in the past 2 games. Because IMO, the start space station battle has been one of the best levels in both games.
I would like to see another big open field and forest level in H3. Something like that of level 2 in Halo but more grand.
I like how people take comments I made about one aspect of a game and apply them to everything about it. No, I didn't say everything in Halo was lazy, overdone crap, I said the level designs are decidedly spare and simplistic, and I don't like that approach. If you like it, fine. I personally peferred Prey's MP maps just because they were creative and different. Prey's MP was barebones and devoid of compelling features, and Halo's multiplayer options are fantastic. I'm not blind to that much.
I also think what I was saying about the graphics are pretty reasonable.
Yeah, pretty much. It's supposed to be a system-seller, and it just doesn't look like a top-teir engine. It doesn't look bad, but people just expect a lot from a game with this kind of placement
http://the-nextlevel.com/board/attac...1&d=1179007202
I don't really believe Frog is back pedaling, but I always wanted to use that image.
LOL. Nah Frog's not backpedaling. He's been saying that all along, but I will be buying a 360 cause of Halo 3. So in that sense it has worked.
God damn that's a terrible reason, given all the other better ones.
I've barely played any Halo 1, and even less of the large maps, so I'm unfamiliar with sniping in that. According to the people I play with, sniping has taken a return to H1 style. The shots (on the human rifle, anyway) are much slower, so you can't pop off two body shots really quickly like in H2. Sort of forces you to headshot... which I suck at.
The covenant sniper rifle is almost the same as far as I can tell, though.
Nice thats more than two things returning to the far superior Halo 1 mechanics.
One more and I might actually have to consider buying this.
Sigh I should have made an effort to beta this shit.
Rent Crackdown for three weeks imo.
that's assuming Bungie remembered they had a 1 player game to work on. at this point (with everything being shown so far solely for mp) i'm going to assume they're releasing it like Quake 3/UT with a possible 1 player game as a download later on.
and for those that don't get it, yes i'm joking a bit.
