yes.
Yeah sometimes I do but then payday comes around.
can you guys explain what do you do and why you hate your jobs??
i'll explain about mine later, i'm at the office and can't elaborate in detail till i get homein 1 hour.
Pay is good, my staff is nothing but really hot girls, I get free food and can show up for work whenever I want. However, at times the workload gets annoying, and every month or two I have to do a chore I hate. So no, not really.
Alright, but don't you win a hell of a lot of money? Anyways, I'm a baker/confectioner. Cooks work in the back, hot women serve people in the front. That easy.Quote:

i do prepress work. dont mind the work but hate the pay. ive seen places on monster starting at 18-25/hr (one in orlando was 78k/yr). i make 9/hr. just here for the experience atm since most places demand 2-5 years minimum.

Set shit up, leave it there while the event happens, die of boredom in the office, pick self up and break down event, repeat ad nauseum. That and the fact that I could never understand what the mostly foreign hotel staff was saying. My new job is at a post production house, doing VO's and audio for video Pro Tools editing. Fun. Hot chicks everywhere in Georgetown. Hot chicks in the ad agency upstairs. Good money. Mykozo happy.Quote:

So my job can be boring sometimes. It has it good days though when we practically do nothing, and get paid, but I want a more "tech" job anyway so I can go to work with some pride.
No hot chicks at my job, only dirty, smelly, grown men.
Yeah, tech support can eat my ass. Especially phone tech support. I've moved up quit a bit, and now support basically only educators and their units (to which they usually don't personally own, so they aren't as emotionally attached)...but it's still irritating to be a customer's bitch. Having to follow extremely strict policy and procedures or get yelled at, sucks ass.Quote:

I don't hate my job at all, very lax work schedule, interesting subject matter, always using new technology, and I work with a lot of cool people.
Right now I'm with one of the biggest newspaper circulation companies in the country. We handle about 30 papers nationwide. Basically we keep track of their customers, log missed papers/complaints, vacations and stops. I recently got a promotion so that's a plus but it's nothing I want to do for a career. It's easy, mindless and basically the same thing everyday. I recently had a job interview that went very well, so my time at this company may be coming to a close.
Which circulation company is it? This is relevant to my interests.
Haha, no, but if I put them in comparaison, my job is as close to hooters as possible. Really.Quote:

If not for the items being meat, I'd be down with it, physical work never really gets to me, its only when dealing with customers or worse, procedures thought up by a management that has no actual experience with the job that my job sucks. beyond that i actually enjoy my jobs, the grocery one lets me interact with some actually interesting people, and the pressure is nonexistant, and i have really good healthcare coverage, however our management is low functioning high school dropouts who can barely form a coherent sentence(yes, i actually fix their spelling, imagine that) and the pay is pretty bad(but if you factor in the health care, the compensation isnt that bad). the other job, with the kids is much more fun, its applying my psychology background, its interacting with kids who dont have many positive role models in their life, and the managers are quite a bit smarter there:D I also still do the cards job, but not as much, a lot of retailers who used to carry our cards now go with the ghetto 50 cent discount cards, which dont need a merchendiser and have next to no real setup anymore, so thats less interesting now. still not in seminary, still trying to make contacts there :\Quote:

I just wanted to ask who told you to do pre-press work for experience in the design feild? Are you planning on moving over in to the design side of things eventually? If so then doing 2 years of prepress won't help you all that much.Quote:

I was told this by one of my teachers, and I asked during design company tours I had to do with a small group of people in my class. They all backed up his claim that prepress isn't a good route to go.
I've scored 2 design jobs and I'm not even 6 months out of college and both jobs are vastly different. The prepress guys where I work aren't allowed to even apply for the design jobs.
Anyway I'm loving my job right now. I'm designing a trade show booth for Folio, a tradeshow for publishers. I think it's the biggest one of its kind (Masthead is big too, but it's in the summer. We went to that too, although I wasn't on staff yet) so I'm excited. The project is ENTIRELY mine right now and I'm having a lot of fun with it.
Some days I work on peoples business cards. So the answer depends on the day, but on the whole I enjoy my work.
My industry is 70% gorgeous women.Quote:

My dad also works for the company, and my manager knows it, so he's always been really nice to me. My title isn't "customer service", nor is it considered a perishable department; basically, this means that I never have to go to the meetings.
I get vacation pay, sick pay, and holiday pay, which is a lot more than most people my age get at a part-time job.
Of course there are bad days, such as crappy customers, a pissy manager, or a really heavy backlog of work to do, but no job is perfect.
It strikes me as odd that you'd need to make contacts to get into seminary. References, I can understand, but the idea of a theological school being so exclusive is just weird.Quote:

I have been meaning to look for a new job for the past month, but I don't have enough experience to go somewhere else, and even if I did I go to school two days a week. My Job tends to have its ups and downs depending on how the management feels that particular day. But most of the time I tend to like my job.
I hate my job.
- I have to be there by 9:30, Monday through Friday.
- My lunch breaks are only like an hour long.
- I have to play games most of the day, sometimes really bad ones.
- On a bad day, my commute is a grueling 20 minutes.
Pretty miserable, but I take it day by day.
How much does it pay though?
I work for Sodexho. Prior to today, I made sammiches. The sucky thing about it was that until two days ago, I had to handle all the duties regarding sammich prep. Outside of having to do everything concerning that station, I love my job. We're a relatively new operation, and over 1/3 of the customers who come to our location want sammiches, regardless of what the grill or the hot line are serving. About a week in I had straight up regulars. I loved my job because lots of hot chicks gushed over how awesome my sammiches were.
Today I got semi-promoted. I'm now working the grill over on the east side of campus. It's semi-temporary; If I like it well enough, I can stay.
I hated Target. While that store is a nice place to shop most of the time, the Stone Mountain location I was at sucked. They don't give you shit for benefits being part time (I'm talking little things, like discounts and whatnot), they fucked you on your hours, and the managers there didn't know shit.
I hate my job because it sucks.
Very funny.Quote:

Every so often, my Ass. Manager will usually bring in something to eat on slow nights (I.E. chili dogs) and sometimes we just sit around and talk about awesome shit, like D&D or Star Wars or something.
But, every so often, some little kid will throw up in a theatre and not tell anyone, so I'll have to clean it up. Or, we'll get rushed and I'll have to pop popcorn like a motherfucker. But, we do have some fine ass ladies working there, and the non-fine ladies are actually nice people, so I shouldn't complain.

I did this at Anne Arundel Community College for about a year. My girlfriend's dad is the director of media for the entire campus, so he gave me my own office and everything. I'd take off on the sidewalks in my little truck, plug in some AV wires bounce out for a couple hours and that was it. After I did that I became a "Media Duplication Specialist" which basically gave me this huge room of VCR's all linked together, I'd set a telecourse to tape and then I'd have nothing to do for 8 hours. Thank god they had NO internet policy back then so if I was actually IN my office (If I wasn't I was back at my place with my girlfriend, somewhere on campus seeing the scenery, or even sometimes the local mall) I would be on napster (TEH OLD!) Everquest (TEH REAL OLD!) or just IM'ng. Fuck those were good times.Quote:

I come from Livermore, so to come into SF Monday through Friday is a big trip, but it's worth it.
I'm a grad student gunning for a PhD in pure math. It's good fun, but most days are 12 hours of work. That is, there is always an assignment due, test to study for, lecture to write, homework to grade, student to talk to, office hours to attend, other peoples problems to solve, etc.
There are ALOT of good things about it though. First and foremost I am learning a fuck load, every night I go to bed smarter than when I woke up. And the satifaction of solving a really hard problem, then writing up a page long proof, then telling it to other people stressing out about the same problem and hearing the "Wow that's really pretty, how the fuck did you come up with that" is really awesome.
People here have good taste in most things as well. A professor shows classic movies in an auditorium every sunday and Iv'e become quite chummy with him, so I now have input in what we watch. It's really awsome to see things like Yojimbo and Rear Window on an actual movie screen.
So I'm mostly at a good place in life right now, except I am constantly exausted and never get enough sleep. The only real problem is lack of a Ganj connection.
Sometimes I hate my job. I work in a Japanese company doing business stuff. I've been here about 1.5 years and I'll stick aroundanother year or so at most. The undercurrent of racism and sexism not to mention pressure to conform is irritating.
I've worked about a million and a half jobs. I wanted recently to go back in the Marine Corp but if the Congressman whose trying to help me out can't come through there's no chance, at least the second time they really screwed me over I didn't have to go to boot-camp.
I currently work back at a Volkswagon dealership. I drive people around a lot during the day and I wash/detail cars and do a bunch of other ridiculousness. It's not so bad, I like talking with the various people that I get to drive around and occassionally it'll be a hot chick but not too often. Before lunch break the day flies but the 4 or so hours afterward usually lag a bit. The pay sucks but they recently offered me more money though I'm not sure how much they're talking yet.
I was working for a Well Service company before this as a service technician. Was making over $700 a week easy but I didn't click to well with that job and they let me go over the whole Marine Corps fiasco.
Before that I was at the Volkswagon dealership (same one I'm at now) doing something very similar for also very sucky pay.
Before that I was at a factory making sucky pay and having to deal with lazy morons all day that were making the same as me, despite the fact I was their supervisor.
And before that was a short time of hell in the Marines :(
I was thinking of getting an apprenticeship in printing as it's easily a job you can support a family on comfortably and I've been offered some help in getting a job with that. I'm not quite sure what to do at this point though, I'd like to be able to do music full-time or close to but I've been thinking about the police academy and some college and maybe joining Federal Law Enforcement (DEA, ATF, etc...no shot for the FBI though, it just doesn't happen). And I've also been thinking about going to school to learn more about music, writing, playing, etc. but I'm not so sure if I could get accepted/afford that.
I work at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. So far, it doesn't seem half bad, but... knowing me, I'll find anything to bitch about when I'm working.
But I like money.
You should be getting on this now. Designers will see you as a prepress monkey and nothing more. If your designers are great then there's nothing to worry about, but you may be pigeon holing yourself as a prepress worker and nothing further.Quote:

Also take this with a grain of salt, because I've only been in this industry as an employee for all of 4 months. But both of my positions were and are design oriented and this is the buzz I get from all of my bosses.
I don't think I could do prepress for more than a month without imploding. I tip my hat to you.
i remember you saying before that youre in the toronto area and theres design houses all over right? my area is the polar opposite. the thing about my education (and i look back and kick myself now, being away from it) is that i see it as shitty. the school focused too much on the old ways and we were offered a one semester class to cover quark/illustrator and photoshop. there was no web side, no flash side. so right out of school i landed the prepress job and have a 2nd job to pay the bills. because of this i have had no time to significantly develope myself and know jack about web. after doing this for the last 2 years ive decided i need to go back to school and learn something. my creativity has since dwindled because of the job and i dont think i have it in me unfortunately. but now im thinking of two options. both are labeled "computer systems support" associate degrees.Quote:

the 2nd i feel as of late would be a better fit because ive worked on and with computers all my life but never had that "paper" to get in. this one is a hardware concentration focusing on networking and hardware certification. currently thats what i enjoy. something breaks from somebody i know, i fix it.
then again i dont even know if i can conceiveable fit a school schedule into my life. doing it isnt the problem, actually finding a school and fitting a schedule in is. blah.
If it makes you feel any better, for the first month I was working here I was still living in Sacramento. Three hours to get to work in the morning :/Quote:

Yeah. I guess you're kind of between a rock and a hard place. You know, you CAN learn this shit on your own after work in your free time. It took me 3 weeks of 4 hours a day to learn Adobe After Effects. Practical work and experience speaks volumes over a degree. I know a lot of design programs. The biggest problem is your creativity in regards to layout and design. You need that in order to survive in this field.Quote:

Yes, yes it is. I was a designer for 5 years. My current industry, software, is about 99.99% pasty men with no social skills.Quote:

EDIT: pay is great where i work, but what's the point when you're miserable?
Hey you should talk. I just spent the entire day in bed last nite till I got up for work this morning, no thanks to the pain and misery I'm going through.
I work retail in a DVD/CD store. It's called HMV. We are a pretty big chain in Canada & the UK.
I don't hate my job, but I always think I could be doing more. I ultimately want to work my way up past manager into some of the bigger head honcho jobs because HMV pays well from Manager up. (Managers can clear like 50k a year with bonus (canadian))
I have to work with customers all day long and I have to do a lot of jobs. Our part timers are basically useless so I have to do pretty much everything by myself.
Last night I worked setting up a new sale until 5am (from 4pm) but I was commended today, since they had nothing to do today. So it's all good.
I just quickly want to get ahead into the manager role so I can make a decent wage and at least be running a store, not working in the crowd.
They like me here and I work hard, so I know I will get promoted soon enough.
I also buy product from suppliers and receive product for the store. Buying is really interesting because you don't want to be over inventory but you don't want to be out of best sellers either. You want to maximize your top sellers and make sure you aren't carrying crap that doesn't sell. Otherwise you are wasting money where you could be making money.
Eventually, maybe I will open my own store. Who knows, if I learn the trades to run a store. Maybe a game store, or a comic shop would be fun to run?
At the end of the day though, I'm not sure I want to be in this field my life. I went to school for web design and multimedia design but that field is over saturated with morons and crappy designers. You just get lost in the crowd applying for a job.
I could get a job with Andrew at his work but I am trying to think about my future.
If in retail I can be making 50k in 2 years when I'm 25, how much would I be making in design? It's a throw up but considering the design field is considered shaky, I think I made the right decision. For now at least.
Anyone wanna discuss their benefits package, if you have one?
I got Guernsey hired. They didn't even interview. Mind you he's the office lap dog, but atleast he's in.Quote:

i`m at highschool and if u consider it my job i can say i hate it
pitty i can`t quit
I'd wager the teachers wish they could fire you more than you wish you could quit.
I like my job. I work in a photo lab as part of a drug store. Our store is in a primo location, so we get way more customers than the other stores. But that doesn't mean we're constantly busy. There are a few hot chics that I work with, and depending on who's the manager, you can get away with doing nothing and talking with the other employees. I usually only work weekends.
Hopefully going to school for a certificate in BioMed. will pay off. I have a degree in Telecom., but learned absolutely nothing in school (screwed off my last 2 years), not to mention the director of my program was fired for not doing a good job. I worked in Telecom off on and when I was first out of school for a couple years with temp jobs, but just hated it.
Do it, real men don't take highschool.Quote:
