For Christmas my gf got me all four volumes of the James Bond box sets, covering the first 20 Bond movies (Casino Royale, obviously not included in this set, is #21). Needless to say, if you're a Bond fan and have been holding out on buying these sets, do so no longer. They kick ass.
Each movie is a 2-disc Special Edition and they each come in their own individual slim DVD case, 5 movies to a box. The DVDs contain all sorts of making-of features and stuff, but the real draw are the transfers themselves- holy shit, do these movies look good. I was watching Goldfinger yesterday, and for a movie that was made in 1963 the thing looks like it was filmed last week. Really impressive. I've skipped around the set and every movie seems to have gotten the same treatment.
One extra that I'm really psyched about are Roger Moore's solo audio commentaries- he recorded one for every one of his movies in the set. He's in his 70's now and while his voice of course sounds much older, he still seems to possess all his marbles and does his best to keep you entertained with the odd bit of behind the scenes info and some good-natured humor. His commentary tracks are really charming. Too bad Sean Connery couldn't be bothered doing the same for his movies. :(
So, go buy them or download them or whatever, but get them.
