Sony introduces a new pricing tier for PSP...

I thought if I waited a year, the PSP would drop to $200. I guess it sort of happened when Sony offered their $300 pack with the (let's just say) $100 1GB stick.

Still not going to get it. The DS has a better line-up, and I'm planning to make a major purchase regarding Sirius on December, so my funds will be depleted then.

Looks like I'll be waiting another year, unless the PSP comes out with some must-have games in the first half of 2006.

I would have thought they would have released a bare bones system package like in Japan this holiday season... I guessed wrong...

I'm not saying it's not a good deal (on paper), but there shoud be an option to buy a bare-bones pack without all the superflous crap. Japan's had a core pack from the get-go, I don't see why we can't be given the same option. And that doesn't necessarily have to mean a big hit to profits for Sony; they could package the assorted PSP-branded sundries from the value pack for individual sale at $10-20, and memory sticks for $30-100, which would earn a much greater profit margin per item than they're earning in the bundles.

The 1gig stick is replacing the 32MB one, it's not being put there in addition to it. And as the Mem Stick is the only worthwhile item in the value packs, you're fundamentally paying $100 for a mem stick. As the link above shows, they can be had for less.

Also of note, the Giga Pack costs the equivalent of $260-270 in Japan... which is odd considering the US's prices on consoles are almost always $20-30 less than what they sell for there. We are getting completely hosed with the PSP.

With a complete lack of software, adding stuff to the value pack is all Sony could do this holiday season. My interest in the PSP is still hovering around zero.
