Penn and Teller: Bullshit

Has anyone else seen this great show? I just watched the first disc of season 1 from Netflix and I like what I've seen so far. It's basically like Mythbusters, but they go after the things in day to day life that just aren't true. The episodes I've seen so far are on Second Hand Smoke/the Baby Mozart trend, Alien Abductions, Magnet Therapy/Chiropracters, the end of the world theorists and those fuckers that say they can talk to the dead (that "Crossing Over" fraud).

They all have one thing in common: lieing douchbags that make money by exploiting others. The segments in between are often funny and Penn does some great voice over commentary.

I watched an episode once at a friend's house who had In Demand. It was pretty fucking cool. I have to get around to renting the first season.

Entertaining as hell, but I'm annoyed by people who take everything Penn & Teller say as gospel. For a show that advocates critical thinking and making yourself see through manipulated bullshit, too much of the fanbase is willing to just accept everything P&T say and not go "hey, wait a minute, aren't they misrepresenting the situation, resorting to personal attacks, and ending the argument by cutting the other person off right now?"

They're often right, and they're always entertaining, but I think there's a bit of a Daily Show effect going on with part of the fanbase missing the point entirely in lieu of just accepting everything said at face value because it's funny.

This is a bigger deal in the second season when they start going after more serious issues. The first season is alien abductions and pet psychics, where the subjects don't really deserve a serious treatment.

They say that too. But it all needs to be taken with an open mind, but they always offer valid counter points to what they're talking about. I'm only 5 episodes in so we'll see how it goes, but so far they do an excellent job. They meet some fucking wackos though. Often with horrible teeth too.

The hippy/tantra episode from season 2 is the best.

I dig the show. The episode on Recycling was quite good.

Seen all of them. Good entertaining show.

I was just going mention that. Fascinating stuff.
Its a really well done show and they seem to do an excellent job in research.
Didn't they do a bitching show about PETA.

I havent caught an episode in a while but I know my cable box lets me watch Showtimes shows whenever I want. I may have to catch up.

The Bible episode was fantastic.

The best episode, hands down, is the Creationism vs. Evolution one.

Well, that and the Tantra one with the singing vagina.
