Ideal location to live as a collector?

I sit here awaiting yet for another hurricane, and wonder what would be the ideal place to live for an avid collector. You can't help but worry that all those years of collecting could be gone in minutes.

As far as the United States, the southeast of course has hurricanes. The west has earthquakes. The middle of the country has mostly tornadoes, and the northeast has blizzards. It seems to me the best place to live would be somewhere in the northeast, at least with the freezing cold you won't have to worry about your house being blown away or destroyed.

You kiddin' me? We get hurricanes up here, too. After it hits Florida, Wilma is going up the Northeast. Maine has had as many direct hits by hurricanes (5) as Georgia since 1900. Of the top ten costliest hurricane hits, four of them (3,6,8 and 9) hit the Northeast.

Probably Midwest. We don't really get hurricanes, quakes, typhoons, tsunamis, or shit. All we get is freezing cold. And blizzards don't ruin houses.

If you mean "Where are all the cool game stores to buy games to collect?" Probably CA, with Game Dude and all the import shops. MN doesn't have shit for good indie stores, but at least we won't lose all of our loot from quakes.

I think going at this from a natural disaster perspective is wrong. The northeast is pretty bad for collectors, big temperature shifts with the season and it can get very humid. Metals are more apt to rust, and plastics do not deal with extreme temperatures well. I would say the southwest is probably best. Nice and dry, constant temps.

Renters/home owners insurance ftw. Just take lots of pictures of your shit, and replace if necessary. It's a pain in the ass but better than nothing.

I've lived north of Atlanta for my entire life, and the biggest threat I've ever encountered was an ice storm, which is no threat if you just pick a house without overhanging tree limbs. There are tornado warnings every so often, but they almost never touch down in the more populated areas. Our winter weather is much more bearable than points north, and the summer weather isn't bad (I don't even think we even went over 100f at all this year).

I had lived a couple of years in Phoenix. The air was too dry and the static electricity took out 2 of my C-64s. So cartridge based games would defineatly be at risk for failure.

The Western sector of Montreal has some great video game stores and practically a zero crime rate. The odds for a storm or hurricane up here are close to none and people up here "don't like video games". I can't think of anywhere better to live, so that's your safest bet.
