How to defraud Best Buy.

OK... back on august 19th I completed step one of "mission new ipod". I went to Best Buy complaining of battery problems on my 2nd gen 40 gig ipod.

No problem! I purchased the 4 year warrenty. So they cheerfuly took my busted ass shit and shipped it off to their repair faciulity to have the battery replaced.

A few weeks later UPS delivered it to my ghetto ass neighborhood and it was stolen off of my front step.

After three months of threatening visits, phone calls and whatnot they finally got UPS to replace my ipod. But heres the thing... there are no 40 gig 2nd gen ipods sitting around anymore so they replaced my old ipod with a 60 gig video ipod. I even got them to give me a fucking gift card for the difference between my original purchase price and the new ipod's price. My old ipod cost $500.

SNAP!

So. here you go:

step one: buy an expensive item from best buy with the replacement program.
step two: return it to the store complaining of "hardware problems".
step three: make sure the package is stolen when UPS delivers it.
step four: wait a few weeks and contact best buy.
step five: collect your reward.
step six: feel good about simultaneousely ripping off two large corporations.

You won. Remember that confessions on message boards are admissable in court! :D

I'm just pointing out how you can do this yourself if you're interested.

Best Buy can suck my ass.

The real moral is if you bitch at any large corporation enough about anything relatively small you will get what you want.

Once they make a different PSP or something, or a new bundle, I'm going to take a screwdriver to mine and claim accidental damage. They won't fucking replace it for legitimate reasons, but they're sure easy to swindle when you forge problems.

It sounds like you defrauded UPS, not Best Buy.

I would like to point out that I defrauded no one. My shit got stolen, and I got furious. I had planned on returning the same ipod over and over with different hardware failures in hopes of getting a new 60 gig one. UPS's incompetance made it so I didn't have to do anything shady. Although I would have.

I would also like to point out how easy it would be to work this system if you were so inclined.

If I still had my old ipod I'd be taking pictures of the two together and lolering.

i don't think "DE"-fraud is the correct word to use because you're not "unfrauding" them. but cool nontheless. this works a lot with video cards too. i had my old gforce 3 raplaced with a 6800gt because they had no more gforce 3's from the manufacturer.

the gforce 3 worked fine but the fan died (although i could still overclock the shit out of it). they couldnt replace either the fan or the card so i made out. then again i DID spend close to $300 back when i originally got it.

I purchased a portable Polaroid DVD player over 2 years ago. I was advised to get the 4 year plan. These things are not built to last.

So a year goes by, and the thing breaks. Won't turn on. I bring it BB and get a new one instantly. Woo!

Another year goes by, and the thing breaks by the motor stopping to work altogether. I go back, and they no longer have that model in. So I get to get a new one, except the new Polaroid one is $70 less than I originally paid. I ask if I can get one that is the same value as the amount I originally paid. They didn't care, so ended up with a Toshiba. The service plan transferred over to the new one.

So almost another year goes by, and the Toshiba starts flaking out. I take it expecting my trade-in, and now I have to send it out. Apparently, Polaroid didn't give a rat's ass and their policy was give them a new one, no questions asked. Toshiba, try and fix then give a new one. So after three repairs, I argue my way out of the fourth repair and get a new one. Sadly, I lost about $80 in value because they had a new Toshiba model in that was cheaper. However, if I didn't argue, they were going to drop a $110 player on my lap, so I took what I could get.

No upsizing this time, because apparently they weren't supposed to let me do it to begin with. However, they had to pricematch the new Toshiba to the old Polaroid so there was no credit left over. Which is fine, because that means when it breaks, I'll take it to a new BB and try to upsize it again for the full value I paid. If I'm successful, my 7" DVD player will become a 9" DVD player.

I felt justified about trying to maximize my value here. The three service repairs did nothing to fix the device. Literally nothing.

Something to consider with a service plan - try and find out if the manufacturer will make you send it out for repair. Concerning portable DVD players, Toshiba will make you send it, but Polaroid and Insignia will give you new ones right then and there.

What's to laugh about? I don't mind it all that much in its current condition, the dead pixels don't bother me -THAT- much, I was just pissed that I bought it being told I could exchange it for dead pixels, and then they changed their mind.

Now, my dog got ahold of it and chewed it up a tiny bit. The analog nub is missing and there are a few teeth marks. Haven't had the bother to go up and ask if those are grounds for replacement under the protection plan.

his returned ipod was STOLEN and it was replaced by something better because the old ones arent made any longer. how is that deception or fraud (which your posted meaning says "defraud" is)? unless his original "battery problem" was made up then he still hasn't lied about anything, and thus has not committed fraud.

course i still can't tell if josh was telling the truth about the battery problem and it being stolen. if he was, my point stands.

Oh, I know. My dog's good at finding things to chew on she shouldn't, I need to be more careful. She got it out of my backpack and tore up the slip cover, too, before getting to the PSP itself. I was asleep on the couch and didn't wake up in time to prevent damage.

I wouldn't care about the bite marks, as they're not on the screen at all, but she ate the damn nub, so I can't use analog control at all.

Something I learned today: There are portable mp3 players that support FLAC. Not the most efficient way to use the space, but that's pretty cool.

Anyway, Best Buy replacement plans are awesome. I think I'll be buying one on another Dual Shock 2 (if they have them on controllers) so I can use it to trade in the beat-to-shit one I've had since launch and be able to enjoy twice the shiny newness. I could see them not having replacement plans for controllers for this very reason, but I sure hope they do. I've heard stories of people doing it, but not from anybody super-credible that I can recall.

Anyway, Nomi, if your dog can open zippers, then I think it deserves to be able to chew on whatever the hell it wants. That is impressive.
