There has to be more to this story. I'm sure somebody (either Slashdot or ChaoofNee) is confused...
so you can't upload your digital camera home movies without permission? Yeah... good luck hollywood... Also - fuck off.
haha, I hope Tivo takes 'em to school
Holy shit, didn't even realize it. This would kinda deem TiVo as illegal, wouldn't it? I'm sure it could be avoided if they added a fee or some shit, but still.Quote:

Not just Tivo, but ANYTHING that can record into a digital format. This means that any and all DVRs (be it TiVo or some home-made shuttle HTPC running MythTV), DVD recorder decks, DVDRW drives, hell even VCRs might take a hit if this wacky bullshit doesn't fall through.
That's exactly why there is no way this could happen. I cannot fathom the idea that this will get through, even with some of the stuff our government pulls sometimes. The fight over the Broadcast Flag would be nothing compared to this, and that was/is a big enough mess for them.Quote:

Do they propose criminalizing devices and programs everyone already owns? ACLU is going to rip this idea a new asshole.
Wait a minute, didn't they already go through this shit when VCR's were released?Quote:
