I think you missed the point of Doom 3 with those complaints up there. You want it to be Half-Life 2. It isn't. It never tried to be. And it came out all the better for it. Still, you want to compare, fine, I'll compare. Your complaints are only half valid at best.Quote:

That stupid thing is a fun gimmicky toy, not something to base a game around. Sure, you don't have to use it in HL 2 but the single-player game certainly expects you to. Admittedly, taking cover behind a barrel that's reacting to every bullet that hits it is cool, certainly -- in Half-Life 2. However, this kind of mechanic just doesn't suit Doom 3's whole m.o.

LOL yourself. It's statements like these that prove you're full of it. Doom 3 had maybe the best sound, ambient and weapon-wise (firing and reloading, providing a tremendous sense of power), of any game ever.

Missing the point again. It's in a Mars outpost station. That's what you're supposed to feel. What you're supposed to believe. Do you want wide-open vistas and varied landscapes? That's ridiculous. Like complaining about too many castle-like environments in a Castlevania game.
It's obvious you're fighting the Doom 3 experience every step of the way. That's okay, you don't have to give in. It's really cool when you do though.
I never listed to paid review sites anymore. Of all the overyle hyped 9/10 games they reviewed they felt more like 5/10 to me. I always always read what other peeps have to say about the games over forums.

And I enjoyed Doom 3 and beat it, I just think it's completely mediocre in every way. When you called it "brilliant," it totally blew my mind.
This is an interesting statement though, I might have to reinstall it just to make sure I'm not going insane or anything. I would check the Xbox version I also played through but I want to make absolutely sure with the original.Quote:

It was an experience that works for two hours, dragged out over 10-15. Any given moment in Doom 3 was fantastic, but when it was all strung together there was just too much repetition for its own good.
EDIT: Oh, and the guns sounding weak was always a complaint about Doom 3 since the day of release. I remember Doom nuts being pissed about that, and an alternate sound pack came out pretty fast. You're in the minority if you think the guns sound big and powerful. The rest of the sound design was great though.
All I want from a game called Doom 3 is something that looks like a sequel to Doom and Doom 2. Why they didn't just make the game a new franchise I've no idea, but Doom 3 just isn't Doom.
Other than the previously mentioned Capcom duo of Killer 7 and P.N.03, I can't think of any games I really like that everyone else seems to hate. Don't care about in the slightest, sure, but hate? Nothing springs to mind.

Asuka 120% Burning Fest (Saturn)
It almost amazes me how much hate this game gets for no reason. I think people play this game for like five minutes, decide it isn't Street Fighter, and blow it off. I don't think I've ever seen a 2D fighting game where the combo system was so much fun, because of how versatile and over the top it is/can be. This is one of those fighting games where you crank up the lifebar, and then just have fun having a totally crazy fight with even crazier strings of combos.
Adding to this is the parry system. Normally, making parries easy to do makes a fighting game crap. Not here - rushing at each other, and then parrying back and forth over and over until one person cracks feels like a great Asian kung-fu flick where two fighters keep blocking off of each other.
I love this game so much, I've kept my Saturn all of this time just for it. (Well, it, Groove on Fight, and Keio Yugekitai.)

Disaster Report (PS2)
The game had some problems, in pretty much every area that a game can have problems, but under all of that was still a really unique and fun game. I started playing the game, and couldn't think of anything else until I finished it. I'd love to see a sequel come out, fixing what was wrong, and being more daring in how the game is set up. (I didn't like that the creators seemed to feel like they had to put more "typical" video game moments into it in the final chapter.)

Jet Set Radio Future (Xbox)
This game is always being bashed by people who say "OMG the first game was so much better, this one was trash!" That's utter BS, and ignorance. I was one of the biggest fans of the original game, and I think Future did some parts of the game even better.
Yes, the difficulty was a ridiculous joke, and the police elements were neutered far too much. When it came to the other elements, though, things were awesome. The stages were far, far larger, and felt more like what the first game had been trying to be. Grind possibilities were far larger, with more emphasis put onto that element (which was the best part of the first game), and even though a bit simple, the trick system put into the game was much needed.
Tagging was simpler, yes, but I would argue that that wasn't automatically a bad thing. Because of how small the stages in the first game were, they had to throw in that added challenge. In Future, the point was GETTING to the tag spots, not the tagging itself, and that change didn't hurt the game any. (And, for me, made doing the tagging more fun actually.)
Just checked out Ebay and a 6 day auction for Disaster Report, has yet to recieve a bid.
I bought the game for dirt cheap hoping it would become worth something. Looks like you may be the only person who likes it Shidoshi. I'll have to give it a run someday.
Disaster Report is a good game, give it a play-through. Shidoshi probably likes it more than I do, but I definitely think it's worth doing at least once.
