Alright, I just RMA'd out a stick of RAM, and then my remaining one goes wonky on me. Got the replacement one in, swapped it out, everything works fine. What's going on? Why am I getting so many RAM failures? What do I need to know about RAM shopping?
Define wonky...And did you swap out the replacement module with the one you already had, or did you put it into another slot alongside your remaining one?Quote:

And by wonky I mean hideously unstable. Basically I couldn't play a game for more than 20 minutes without my system rebooting.
Make sure it's not something weird, like your power supply going irregular on you.
Why would replacing the RAM fix that?
I mean memtest86 is showing that this RAM is going bad. I just wonder why it keeps happening and what I can do about it.
because a faulty psu could be sending the incorrect amount of voltage to the different parts of your mobo, and its the ram thats eating it so far.
I do know that my house has bad wiring and erratic voltage, but I have a surge protector.
thats fine and dandy but the psu in your case makes power after the surge protector. thats my point.
the psu doesn't make power at all. It just regulates and distributes it. I was saying that my house gets alot of power spikes that blow out small appliances and fans and shit all the time, and then gets very weak at other times, and I was wondering if that might affect this even with a surge protector.
yeah im sure having bad lines in the house isnt a good thing. i just thought you were assuming since you had a surge protector, having an underperforming psu was okay.
but my question is, did this just recently start happening? when ram starts to go all the sudden (even tho youve had a history with the house anyway) its just kind of a\odd it never crapped out before.
