Just finished the Hardcore runthrough.
Later in the game the Adepts become incredibly overpowered rape. Singularity is beastly strong, and if you pick the right Advanced Class you can do damage to enemies in Stasis. I just beat Saren by having him in Stasis essentially the whole fight and shooting the shit out of him. Now to try to do a 60 run on Insane and get the last two ally achievements while I'm at it.
I just killed all of those fuckers on Feros. I refused to even consider the poison gas grenades. I accidentally knocked out the shopkeep though, and it was a good thing since he had an incredibly powerful assault rifle for sale that I took advantage of.
This game hasn't stopped being awesome.
Shield bypass rounds are okay but you can fight much, much smarter than that if you aren't an adept. For instance I have no biotics, so I bring Tali with me. Her Overload ability is pretty maxed out and is specifically designed to disable any nearby enemy sheilds. When we fight the geth I put on Tungston rounds that give me a +30% vs. synthetics (so far, you can get higher depending on what level the tungston rounds are at). There are also rounds, anti-personnel or something like that, that give you a +30% vs. organic lifeforms too. So depending on what I'm fighting I'll open my equipment page and quickly switch between the two. So Overload + specific rounds makes most enemies drop after two small taps on the assault rifle's trigger. Not to mention if I need a break Tali can overheat the enemy weapons so they can't fire for like 6 seconds. Wrex is good to have for stuff like Carnage and Throw -- I haven't put any points in to shotguns. I don't feel I need to when his is maxed out so much.Quote:

I haven't died once since being ambushed my the geth on the planet with Benezia's daughter (pretty close a couple of times). Tali and Wrex, my go-to team, are expendable. I also have first AID pretty high so that when I heal myself I can fall back a bit and my health is way up. Most of the fighting can easily be overcome if you just strategize and don't rush in when you need to rest. I've also equipped Tali with an equipment enhancement that renews her health meter. Wrex does it by himself and so do I, so if we wait long enough we're in good shape for another run.
I finished my second play through the other day, used a male adept the first time and then a female vanguard the second time. I'm going to give it a bit of a break before I try it again, I want to see what the infiltrator is like. Plus there were some side stories that I didn't get to finish, namely the Cerberus one.

This game is selling like crazy. Over one million copies in 3 weeks -- second only to Halo 3.
I finally beat it, clocking in at around 13 hours and 22 minutes. Over all it was very good, great even. It had the epic feel of kotor, and the battle system grew on me. But the glitches are just unforgivable at this point, come on guys.
I haven't run into any glitches with around 30 hours total.
Stop breaking shit.
Seriously. The only issue I have ran into is the Halo 2 style texture pop in issue, besides that I haven't ran into anything.
i ran into a glitch near end game with the mako, getting stuck between a rock and a small ledge, going reverse, trying to force it out with the cannon, using the boosters, nothing worked, it was stuck so perfectly that the game wouldnt let me exit the damn thing.
Can't you just hit X to return to the ship there?
it was mid story mission, the prompt wouldnt appear.
I totally did this as well, but since I save like a maniac it didn't set me back much. The problem is the mako won't let you out if it doesn't think it's more or less level.Quote:

I'm playing as an adept and..I've spent way too many points in charm AND intimidate. And someone fill me in...when I level up and get skill points, I'm only getting 2 as opposed to earlier when I was packing 3's. Is that because I'm too renegade?
THINGS I LIKE: Renegade/Paragon doesn't seem to mean much, my guy can be a badass and a good guy at the same time.

Conversation trees are sweet, and I think I've only run into one convo that didn't really make perfect sense. I wish I hadn't read the prequel novel beforehand, as I like to listen to the dialogue (FOR XP NO LESS!) and some of it got repetitive just for the novel.
THINGS THAT ARE MEH:
The story is meh. Star wars please. (The SCENES are AWESOME though, for the most part. )
A third of the characters.
I wish I could control ALL the characters in FPV, especially since my adept will only rock one weapon all game. Sometimes I wanna snipe, yo. Guess I'll have to play through twice.
The MAKO isn't horrible, but it's definitely meh.
WHY can't I swap out party characters when there is an all-clear, as in KOTOR?
RPG's paralyze me. I fuck around with equipment forever. Thing is, the way the menus are in this game pisses me off....I don't know why, they're really easily functional. I think, especially in the ship, it should be handled differently. Running from locker to locker is king bullshit.
Also, I wish I could have all the characters with me all the time because I hate to feel I'm missing interaction. That's not a realistic desire or anything but I'd like it to happen.
As covered before, the side planets are super super super "meh."
In any case I enjoyed the KOTOR way of combat more. The "FPS" bit of this is....meh. It's not awful...but it's...you know...an fps in an RPG.
anyway for the moment combat is just something I try to get through as fast as I can (without dying) to go do more story elements. Meaning unless things change, about half the game I'll spend irritated.
Mario Galaxy gets all the irritation (movie scenes!) out of the way up front.
You get fewer skill points per level as you progress. All valid complaints btw, the menu system is horrible.

I was hitting on both, but I didn't think Ashley was an option. I knew there was a sex option, but I assumed it was double-pronged: Sex (with the blue-skinned alien) or no sex. The menu system complaint is extremely valid. BioWare has never seemingly been able to create a functional menu interface to save their lives. It's always a disorganized compilation of everything ever you've ever picked up and its shit.
Aside from giving us more varied actual cities and planets to explore the menu system is probably my most wanted upgrade for Mass Effect 2.
I just wish the drop system was done better, wading through stuff to see if something is useful took way too much time.
One more thing to mention: The texture pop-in is truly horrendous.

Good. Someone at work was telling me the game was almost over. I think I'm actually 5-6 hours in. I like exploring everything.
I never acquired a piece of weaponry from a merchant. I found everything I needed.

Yeah. But if you get the Rich achievement, you unlock Spectre grade VII weapons which are rather awesome. And after getting Rich + hitting level 50, you unlock Spectre Grade X weapons, which are the strongest in the game. Both can only be purchased from the merchant in the garage.
Or on your ship if you spent the whopping 100 credits (or whatever) for the license.
There's no license for them. And the garage in the ship is what I meant.

Picked up a 360 a few days ago and this has been getting most of my time. I'm about 16 hours in and enjoying it, though the game definitely isn't without its fair bit of irks.
So I hear you can restart the game on a harder difficulty with the same weapons and levels from your last playthrough? I am assuming you have to play through as the same design (male, blonde, etc.) and class? Or do you get to change your class and just start at the same level?
Yeah, you can New Game+ it (just make sure to change the difficulty before you leave Eden Prime). And yeah, unfortunately, you can't change anything about your character.
An hour into this game and I am loving it. For a RPG, it is too shooter like, but I like it. I love the conversation even if it is basically the same thing, but the expressions are really well done.
I dunno, I was underwhelmed by the acting. It looks great when it is still (and the textures have loaded) but when it moves it's just okay. Although the Turians animate well, I think.

I actually find the combat to be the most enjoyable aspect of the game. Unfortunatly its not very balanced (I tend to either absolutely destroy the enemies, or get gang raped by them, without much going on in between), and the ammount of macro-managing that goes into weapon equipment doesn't always seem to have much of an effect. But its still a hell of a lot of fun, and makes me wish you had the option of going into combat more often.
All you have to do is back up if your shields get wiped and you win. Quickmapping powers to buttons is a must to enjoy combat.
I honestly would have preferred KOTOR style gameplay, it'd bump the game up a point for me, but I'll admit it's gotten friends of mine who could never get into KOTOR's gameplay into this game.
I HATE driving around the Mako. It's seriously the worst gameplay mechanic ever. Why couldn't they just make it control like the Warthog on Halo 3? Everything else about this game is top notch (well, the pop-in and loading kinda sucks). Every side quest you have to drive that piece of shit Mako over these fucking mountains and it flips over and OH GOD I HATE IT. The story is awesome and I finally caught on to the battle system so now I'm kicking ass.
Edit: When you are zoomed in on the Mako with the L-Trigger if you push in the Right Thumbstick you can zoom in a second time which makes shooting much easier.
lern2drive. The Mako is fine once you stop controlling it like a Warthog.

i got this for my bro for Christmas (thank you MS store). i lol'ed when he was running and turning with the character at the same time. he looked like he was on a pivot. actually looked like how a bike model reacts in a racing game.
I don't nitpick stuff like that. The atmosphere is great, the graphics is amazing. Sure, the animation could be better, some of the facial emotions could be less subtle but it is still one of the best RPGs I have played (thus far anyway). I love the real time combat too.
Borrowing this game from Tain, I can probably beat it before I need to return it, but I'm still very tempted to buy this game, we'll see how I feel at the end.
I love the dailog trees, they're not as good as Blood Lines, but still awesome none the less. The combat is great, I'm just now Getting the Mako, last thing I did was fight the Geth's in the hanger, Throw > Spider Geths Definitely a better game than Jade Empire which I thoroughly enjoyed. Can't wait to go home and play more. Quick question though, how far in would you say the first sex scene is? I'd really like to avoid playing that part on the family TV while everyone is awake. >.<
eh, i pick up on shit like that immediately. the chugging framerate at times DURING CUTSCENES and the splotchy self shadowing bothered me too. the game may be good but just sitting there for a couple minutes had me dialed in on that stuff.Quote:

I went there first as well, and even though I was a vanguard, I still got messed up pretty bad. The key to the fight for me was moving around the room and getting away from where she could hit me. That lets you take out the extra enemies without being in danger of the boss. Take them out before you go for her, or you'll get overwhelmed really quickly. Check out gamefaqs if you're still stuck on it.
Yeah I finally got it, one of the biggest problems was I didn't realize that there were enemies in the back corners of the room who weren't coming after me, so I started going after her doing no damage and was like "Wtf" Finally killed her. Pretty brutal for a boss fight though, which is actually good I just wish I hadn't been so ill prepared.

So I played about 4-5 hours today to start my game and I'm absolutely loving it. The only gripe I have so far is the sluggish controls. They really annoy me.
Yeah, the characters are a bit sluggish turning around and shit, but you get used to it.
Got Mass Effect with my 360 for Christmas. I've only spent about 2 hours with it, but wow, I'm really impressed. It has some of the best voice acting I've ever heard in a game. Seran seems like he's going to be quite an impressive badass too.
I've spent probably 3 or 4 hours on the dialog alone, mainly because that's something I <3 so much. After doing one mission I"m back at the Citadel talking to everyone grabbing all the quests I can etc. Besides the frustration of that boss I'm really loving this game so much, I should buy it >.<

The frustration came from a boss I beat already. She was just a bitch for a lower level adept is all due to the limitations of my skills and needing to rely on them.

Yeaaaaah, the Assault Rifle is pretty fucking terrible. Sniper does get pretty decent when you fully level it up, but the Pistol gets my vote for best overall gun definitely. Shotgun's not too shabby though.
I am only 7 hours in (mostly talking, and just left that giant base) and I have used nothing but sniper and shotty.
I have the exact opposite exp with the assault rifle. I've been using nothing but the shotty up till I got to drive my first Mako. I got inside this snow base and was getting owned. I switched to the assault rifle and raped bitches.
