Something very simple to play ROM's and gametap stuff on my pc. Something i can use through a USB port. Any recommendations?
Sorry, but I am very uninformed about this. This is actually my first post since 2004 (hahaha).

As long as they're for 2D games or digital games, those Wal-Mart PlayStation rip-off controllers by Gemini will do you just fine. I used it for ZSNES, Kega, NeoRAGEX, Magic Engine, MAME, ePSXe, and the ABA shooter Parsec47, and all of them ran wonderfully. However, analog for these controllers is pure shit, and Project 64 recognized the pad, but Mario 64 was a complete hassle in analog mode due to the pad's horrible analog.
EDIT: 360 wired controllers are USB, and are comfy. You may want to try one of those. They're kind of expensive, though, for emulators.
Also keep in mind that it's not HID compliant and requires additional drivers to work. Still no Mac driver yet that I know of. Grr.Quote:

Although, if you've got a PS2 already, a ten dollar dualshock usb adapter works wonders. Mine has yet to fail me.
Ditto on this. It won't work with the PS2 Dance Pad, because it has some funky control issues. For the standard controller though, it's a dream, rumble feature works with it too.Quote:

I think someone I knew also tried it with Dancepads and said it worked fine with that too...
I do want to try one of those Xbox 360 controllers with my computer as well, I just don't think I ever want to buy one of those instead of a second wireless controller, though.
I've yet to find a single USB convertor that doesn't suffer at least some lag or lost input.
I always end up having to slow down my dpad movements and button presses in order for them to register.
I've used about six different ones, including smartjoy adaptors, and none can compete with a USB gamepad.
The one I use right now is a transparent blue and white knockoff of the shitty U.S. saturn pad, but it's actually better than either of the real saturn pads.
Go figure.
Logitech Wireless Rumblepad II
I use this with my emulators and it works great, everything including project 64 run excellnt, and I love the ease of wireless.
This just in: Xbox 360 controller driver for OS X is out. It's excellent.

Cool. Is there a driver for the original xbox controller too?
I second this question. It would rock for mame on os x.Quote:

Of course the driver is shareware.
Course, you could use something like this as well. I wonder if this one is good. It'd be neat to have four xbox controllers on a PC for some emulation goodness.

ok...i had to dig up this old thread 'cause i went looking for a gamecube usb converter to use on my pc. i have one of those snes style hori pads for my gamecube and i thought i'd just go find a converter and use that but i haven't had much luck. do they sell them at bestbuy or...has anyone even seen one for gamecube controllers? i went to an eb and gamestop but those guys were dumb and didn't know what i was talking about.
As of late I haven't seen too many GC to PC converters, but I did see this one that you may want to check out:

Hope that helps!
actually, that one looks pretty good since it's a 3 in once. i'll see if i can find it around here first before ordering. thanks.
I use a Logitech RumblePad 2...It's an exact replica of the PS2 controller basically but with numbered buttons...
It works great because when you think about it a PS2 controller contains a SNES controller in it...The four buttons or basically in the EXACT layout as the SNES. I realized that while playing Final Fantasy III right after playing VII...I then figured out why in VII 'O' is the action button. Because it corresponds with 'A' on the SNES controller so they kept the same layout from FF III to VII....
It's only about $25 and it has rumble and works with every game that supports controllers. It is the main controller supported by EA games..I use it for Tiger Woods 06 and it's awesome.
I'm really not trying to be too mean, but, you only then realized that all the Playstation controllers had the same exact layout as the SNES pad? The original pad looked just like the SNES pad except for the prongs and the extra shoulder buttons! The Dual Shocks look just like the SNES pads but with analog sticks. How did this escape you until you played Final Fantasy III?Quote:

I got one of these because I am the only person in this entire world who loves the original USA Saturn's gamepad. Unfortunately, after about 2 days of owning it, the dpad died. And such made ME want to die.
Oh well. I need to find something else. I guess I'll get a converter thingy.
I am using one for my Saturn. There's nothing wrong with it at all. It looks stupid but thats about it. When it comes to controllers, people have a tendency to be very... hyperbolic.Quote:

Oh, I have plenty of the actual Saturn controllers, but the pic above is a usb knockoff of it. Ordered it off ebay. I was in heaven for a few days, as Capcom crap on emulators were playing like a dream. Damn thing died days later. Such a sad story.
But, yeah, you're right, there's nothing wrong with the USA Saturn Pad at all. It's so smooth and wondrous.
The joybox I use to plug my PS2 controller into Windows detects the left analog stick as a four way directional pad. I think it's because the D-Pad are seen as being four seperate buttons instead of a POV. Thank god for Joy2Key.Quote:

I have the same pad, but mine is transparent blue and clear.Quote:

I'd go so far as to say it's as good as the japanese style Saturn pad that everyone loves so much.
Best $10 I ever spent.

Yeah, they are pretty crap. The shoulder buttons on the usb knockoff, however, are pretty decent.Quote:

Hmmm, mine has a proper start button, and I bought it from a place called Microplay, which has since gone out of business.
I wish I'd bought a couple more, but I was skeptical of the quality when I bought it.
Damn. Well, hmm. I guess to ebay I go again. Yum.

I never owned a SNES. I only played one a few times when I might have been like 8 or something at my cousin's house...I was a Genesis guy...
So I never really had the SNES controller drilled into my head...I probably only held one in my hands for 15 hours total in my life.... When I played FFIII (emulated) I was like "whoa so that's why" and it all made sense...
I have one of those original PSone controllers around here..I hate that thing...
Anyway that Logitech RumblePad 2 is probably the best thing out there, but if your an Xbox guy CircuitCity sells the 360 controller as a USB PC controller...I prefer the PS2 controller, but I like to play sports games on Xbox so I might get the 360 controller if Madden supports it (It only lists the Logitech one on the box).
