It sounds like you have a serious problem with authority. I wouldn't stay late every day of the week, either, but it seems that either you're very hard to get along with because you need everything to mesh well with you or you're a bit of a hot head. No offense.

It would make sense for a couple of employee's to have group authority in having him removed, should he not be good enough to meet everyone's standards. Isn't there supposed to be a way you can have him evaluated?

Well, I'm only speaking from my experience in southern ontario, but the same holds true for most of canada.
The atlantic provinces are fucked, though.

Well, he liked certain parts of his job and others he clearly didn't. Making a job jump (especially changing careers) can be a daunting task. Excited and nervous about leaving, finding that perfect job is hard.

Maybe for professionals, but it isn't all that easy for everyone.

I felt horrible when I quit my job six months ago. I'd been working for that commpany for over three years and grown a lot with them. But it was the right thing for me to do since management simply wasn't looking out for its employees and burning them out way too often. My boss was basically no help to me and pretty oblivious to the amount of stress he was piling on his employees. Plus there was a handful of other people whose egos got so huge it became a huge pain to work with them.

I remember my exit interview with human resources. They asked what improvements could have been made and I told them about a good amount of my frustrations and problems. The human resources lady couldn't believe any of it.

I felt horrible leaving mostly because I had a great relationship with the good people that were there. There was a lot of good people there. It was just the small amount of awful people that really ruined the whole experience of working there. Basicaly you think you can always work around it, but it wears and tears after awhile. And even if you're making good money, you dont have a future if you stay in a place that wont allow you to grow any more.

Now I'm working a job thats about the same as before but a lot less stressful and frustrating. I'm making a little less money, but I don't mind it at all. If I didn't have to move away it could very much be everything I was wishing for. So change is usually a good thing. I still keep in touch with some of my old co-workers there and most of them have left too. They told me I somehow started a mass exodus. I also found out last week that my bosses position is now up for grabs. I dunno if he got fired or resigned. I'll probably find out later in the week when I talk to some people.
