Howard Stern admitted to putting a gun in his mouth. Twice.
Craziest show ever. The interviews were good too (especially with the guy who wrote The 40-Year Old Virgin), but they were eclipsed by Hours 1 and 5.
Howard said he went through some tough times
Artie said that he's physically burnt out and was leaving show business for at least six months (no movies, no stand-up, just go to Europe (lol) or something like that). He was thinking of making this announcement in July, but it came out early. He's not 100% sure about leaving, and maybe might be convinced to just go to therapy instead.
Howard was trying to console Artie and let him know that he's not the only one who felt depressed about working in the show and his comment about putting the gun in his mouth came out of nowhere. Howard said that in hopes of convincing Artie that he should see a shrink to help him deal with his problems, as seeing a shrink definitely helped out Howard. I was stunned that Howard even admitted that. It was an intense show, to the point that Robin almost didn't do the news because she was emotionally wrecked from all the things said during Hours 1 & 5.
Okay, at least Artie said he was thinking about it, not doing it. He's said that before and not followed through.
For a while now, Howard and Robin have been pointing out that Arite was burning himself out between doing the show while traveling to multiple comedy gigs and getting shitfaced every weekend.
The guy makes shitloads of dough from the Stern show alone. Lay off the outside shit.
Artie is really a self-destructive boob.
I believe it is Craig Gas who does the baby Al Pacino voice. Artie leaving would blow and I might have to cancel my subscription. Never hearing Artie and Gilbert be complete jack asses during Robin's news again is a heart breaking thought.
Yeesh. I like Artie, but I give the guy 5 years tops at this point. He's in a downward spiral.Colin fucking rules, but he's too much of a lazy wreck to do morning radio. Also, he supposedly turned down a show on Sirius (ok, opportunity to do a pilot on Sirius) because he wouldn't be able to do O&A's show any more, so I dunno if that would be a factor, too.
He and Nick DiPaolo did a show on WJFK in Washington DC for a while which was pretty good. Wouldn't mind seeing something come of that. Nick DiPaolo had his own show in NYC, too, but it looks like the format flip put an end to that.
Today Artie officially announced that he is NOT leaving the show- he's here to stay.
Whew, that's a relief.
Yeah but if you listened to the whole part right at the end of it he said he didn't know.
So is he going in for therapy and treatment, finally?
Yeah, I caught all that the first time. Right after what is posted there he said he didn't know. I just wanted to add that Chris Cornell was really good on Stern today.
Yeah, that was a good interview.
Speaking of Chris Cornell, does anyone know where to get the song Sunshower? It was on his solo import CD, and the soundtrack for Great Expectations and I can't find it anywhere. The superfan that was in studio brought it up and they started playing that guys band doing the song live but Howard cut it short.
***edit*** Just found it on Youtube:
News from this morning:
George Takei is in-studio all this week. :tu:
The next person to be roasted: Sal. :tu: :tu:
A Sal roast would probably make him commit suicide. Great radio!
<3 George Takei.
Sal playing "What's in my pouch?" with George Takei was gold, GOLD I say!
I tried to listen to O&A during the vacation but I just couldn't get into it. Good to have everyone back.
Guess what's in my pouch was great. And George got in trouble with Brad about it. OMG cheating.
"What's in my pouch?" was...very, very gay. Having George in is always a pleasure, however.
Riley Martin was just in the studio. The interview was hilarious.
Gay, yes. Also hilarious.
Once again they had a conversation today about if Artie would be leaving the show in January (or at all in the future), and his answer was a definite "no." He said he didn't want to look back in 20 years (provided he lives that long) and realize that he made a mistake.
He's also seeing Dr. Keith Ablow on a regular basis. Maybe that's helping him.
Not enough of the Holy Trinity today: Artie, George Takei, and Gilbert Gottfried. Damn Howard and his leaving early today. The first half-hour of the Wrap-Up Show with Takei was good though.
Yeah, they were great.
Normally Gilbert is...just there. Here and there he makes a funny joke, but lately it's just Howard making fun of him and Gilbert laughing at each joke. But something about George, Artie, and Gilbert just fucking clicked today, especially when they were accusing George of wanting to fuck his mother.
Yeah, wtf. I guess his grueling 4 day, 20 hour work week is just getting to be too much.Quote:
Damn Howard and his leaving early today.
I liked listening to George's stories, especially the one about Shatner and Nimoy's arguement over the photographer.Quote:
The first half-hour of the Wrap-Up Show with Takei was good though.
George is always awesome.
Gilbert and Artie are amazing together because one of them gets a racist joke in their heads and then they both keep interrupting Robin to repeat it over and over like a steamroller. My favorite was the one a few months ago with the John Lennon and Blackberry jokes...
The Scott Baio interview today was legendary. If you missed it, make sure you catch the replay.
I'm pretty suprised- the staff had a pull-up contest and Howard destroyed them all with 12 reps. The closest anyone else came was Fred, with 9. Everyone else could only do 1-3 reps.
Artie hung from the bar for a second, throught better of it, and sat back down. :)
Yup. The motherfucker got Pam Anderson in her prime, pre-surgery.
LOL. Artie gave out his phone number on the air.
(201) 876-3239
I wouldn't even attempt to try and call it. Must be going off the hook. I hope they play the voicemail messages on the air tomorrow.
Aaaaand Sal just kissed Richard's taint to get Artie on the scale... and he weighs 3 pounds less than last time, an even 300.
Iron Sheik vs Iron Sheik Jr. was easily the funniest bit I have ever heard on the radio.
The Iron Sheik is the greatest Stern guest ever. Artie almost had me crying from laughter when he was arguing with him as "Iron Sheik Jr." It was the funniest segment since Artie had that 40-minute arguement with Crazy Alice.
The Sheik is doing an autograph signing at some comic book that's 5 minutes from my house this Saturday. I'm totally there. And I'm totally mentioning B. Brian Blair.
I'll be bringing my camcorder, that's for sure. If anything noteworthy happens I'll post it.
*EDIT* FUCK! The Sheik isn't signing autographs in Levittown, NY, he's signing them in Levittown, PA! That's over 100 miles from me. :(
"YOU STOLE THE CAMEL CLUTCH FROM ME!!"

shit, I recently got a compilation of a ton of Gilbert Gottfried appearances, and the Sheik was on one. What a fucking riot that was. "I'll fuck you up the ass and make you humble you faggot". I'm definitely acquiring todays show.
YOU ARE BUBBA FOR THE PEOPLE
I lost it when Richard yelled "under the moon and stars."
http://howardstern.com/dtcms/tsimg/12_26605.jpg
Yeah, that was totally such an Ultimate Warrior thing to say.
ROFL I'm listening to it right now, rofl rofl rofl
Holy shit, Stern is off for yet another week. Didn't he just get back from 2 weeks off?
And Artie bitches about the schedule. lol.
Oh god, it's even better on video. LAWL on Artie trying to keep his beard up.
Off for 2 weeks, work 4 days, off for another 2 weeks. What a brutal schedule, waaaaah.
Okay, Howard's off ANOTHER week, possibly two since next week is Labor Day and I can't see him not taking off for that as well. And yet he has the balls to bitch on-air how he hates working and wishes Sirius would let him out of his contract. Yeah, those grueling 20 hour, 4 day work weeks are brutal, huh?
At least Mammary Lane re-played his old Wesley Willis K-Rock interview today.
And I have a complaint about the show in general. I've often said it's been better than it ever has since moving to Sirius, and I really mean that. But lately, I think the quality's been slipping. It seems that 89-90% of the show lately is Horward, Artie and Robin just bullshitting about any random topic that comes up, and they'll do it for hours. It's like there's not even a plan for the day's show when they come in in the morning. They'll discuss Ralph for over an hour, or interview some nobody caller (whereas in the old days Howard would have hung up on them). Stern talks about their Thursday writing meetings, but I can't imagine what they actually do there because there's no actual content anymore. Occasionally they'll have a bit or a contest, but that's getting more and more rare. And we're paying for this now.
Plus, there's no guests any more. The only people who visit the show anymore are washed-up comedians. I guess the Stern Show is their safe haven now, a place to get cheap plugs.
Anyway, the show's just feeling more and more lazy lately. Still enjoyable, especially because of Artie. Artie rules, stop snorting H you fat pig.
Also, just a quick word about the Ralph hate- I don’t get it. Ralph rules- he tells it like it is and he's funny as hell. Keep letting the ugly berry-faced bastard call in.
All this time off is kind of crazy and you have to figure he has three more weeks of off air (Week of Thanksgiving Im guessing and two weeks for the xmas/new years).
I actually look forward to listening to the Wrap Up show more so then the actual show.
The wrap up show has been better than the real show lately. Dole's right, it's just really sloppy and lazy. Gary and Artie are more fun to listen to than Howard and Artie lately.
What's the latest with Howard? I haven't had Sirius since April. I thought about turning it back on. I miss it sometimes. mostly for the blues, garage, and French Pop stations, sometimes Howard
Christ, Howard was whining like crazy about tabloids printing stories akin to the Anna Nicole Smith butt buddies and I couldn't take it. I just turned to music the whole way to work.
The show is starting to pick up a little lately. The 50 Cent interview last week was pretty good, as was Dial-A-Date with Jackie's ex-wife.
Plus, Eric the Midget's back after once again swearing he'd never return. And he's more deranged than ever.
Brad Garret and Ronnie the Limo Driver going back and forth was pretty funny.
D. L. Hugley was another good interview today. The show's really improving.
The Paul Anka interview was good too. They also explained a story about how Eric was trying to get a girl he knew to call into the show and talk positively about Eric to improve his chances of meeting Diana Degarmo (or whatever her name is). I nearly laughed out loud at work when I heard that.
Also, LOL at the World's Largest Clitoris contest.
Yeah, D. L. is really cool.
So I went to see the Killers of Comedy on Saturday night, and it was one of the funniest shows I have seen in a long long time. Shuele was fucking hilarious. He MC'ed the whole ordeal and did about 20 min at the beginning, plus 5 in between the rest of the sets. I knew he was a funny guy from the roasts, but god damn, he killed on literally every joke.
Yucko was god awful. I never have thought he was very funny, and his act confirmed my thoughts. His whole act relied on pulling dildos out of a hat and pretending that they were his dick.
Sal was typical Sal. Making KKK jokes because the crowd was all white. Holocaust jokes a plenty, plus a good handful black/asian jokes. He did rail on East Cleveland, because apparently Beetlejuice wanted to find a Popeyes, so they got lost in East Cleveland and he called it "New Orleans without the water". lol.
Then Reverend Bob Levey was up next, who also killed. He kept on talking directly to this black dude in the crowd, constantly calling him "black guy", and making hilarious jokes at these dyke looking girls in the front row.
Then of course the novelty acts, Iron Shiek and Beetlejuice. Shiek did his typical hilarious shtick of screaming about the coke, and the marijuana, and the beer. Taunting Hulk Hogan and making him humble. Then got all riled up because there was a dude dressed up like him who ran up in front of the stage. He ended up only being on stage for like 5 or so min though. Then Beetlejuice, who is just fucking hilarious no matter what he does. He pulled the stubborn Beetlejuice act where he didn't want to do anything and Shuele and Levey were coaxing him into saying ridiculous shit.
Then of course there was the eating blue cheese out of the girls asses. At first 2 girls volunteered and went up on stage. 1 was just OK looking, while the other was smoking hot, easily 9/10. Too bad they both pussied out and left the stage to tons of booing. Then 2 ugly girls volunteered, one was beat ass and fat, the other one was like 6'2" and chubby (both up Cowutopia's alley). Beetlejuice and Levey then ate blue cheese out of their asses and it was fucking hilarious. Way funnier in person than just hearing about it. Seeing Beetlejuice with his face dug into this fattys ass and looking at the crowd with his entire face covered in blue cheese was fucking classic. I wish I had a camera with me because that picture would have been amazing.
Anyone who is a Stern fan and has a chance to see them, DO IT. It's worth every penny (besides Yucko), and the only way it could have been better is if Florentine was in the line up.
Now I just got tickets to see Artie and Bob Levey on December 7th, I'm fucking pumped.
Good show review, Brand. If they come around my area I might check them out.
BTW, the Stern show has really improved 100% as of late. Real guests, great interviews, great bits, Atrie's "Emotional Friend" character…everything is awesome as of late. I guess they must have gotten a lot of complaints, because the improvements came almost overnight.
The emotional friend bit yesterday was amazing. I caught like 3 different 20-30 min pieces of it when I was in the car at random times yesterday and every part of it was amazing. Especially Christine laughing when Sal started crying. If anyone deserves that to happen to them, it's Sal.
The therapy session bit was amazing. Fun factoid: Christine was paid $10,000 with the Heartbreak Kid money. She was initially offered, $2500, then $5000, then $10,000, and she refused each time. It wasn't until Sal sat her down and convinced her that they needed the money and could potentially help their marriage that she agreed to do the skit. Artie was hitting home runs with his "Emotional Friend". His first appearance from last week was hysterical.
I just finished listening to the Jerry O'Connell interview. Good stuff. Don't know if I should be looking forward to Sarah Silverman smelling Richard Christy's sweaty balls tomorrow.
Richard Christy is one disgusting human being. It's not even funny anymore.
I missed the Sarah Silverman interview, so wait, she's actually coming in and smelling his balls? That's too bad since she's hot in a really Jewish looking type of way. Also, the 45 min of arguing about Christmas gifts on my drive to work this morning was fucking miserable. No one cares!
Scott DePace's Halo 3 stats, for those of you who are interested.
Hilarious, he's barely played though. I WILL be sending him a friend request later.
I tried that when I found out what his gamertag was months ago. His friends list was full at the time I sent the request.
LOL at Sarah Silverman almost throwing up when she smelled Richard's balls. LAWL at Howard smelling Richard's balls. Can't believe he went through with it, and his reaction was priceless.
Btw, so when are Sal and Christine going to get officially divorced? Sal needs to leave the show to stand a chance and he won't do that.
She's a frigid shrew, Sal's better off without her.
The clip during the intro to New vs Old Pornstar Family Feud from the Geriatric Home themed porn had me pretty much dying of laughter. It was one of those "pull your car over to the side of the road" because you are laughing so hard moments, even though I obviously didn't pull over.
"Do you have Bingo?"
"No Bingo here"
"How about Shuffle Board?"
Yeah, I loved the porn intros. The whole Pornstar Family Feud bit was great.
BTW, the young porn stars...
http://www.howardstern.com/dtcms/tsimg/06_26837.jpg
...and the (ugh) old ones.
http://www.howardstern.com/dtcms/tsimg/11_96078.jpg
I also loled during the drawing for the Secret Santa when Howard pulled some female intern and Robin then pulled Howard.
isn't the point of secret santa that you DON'T know who is buying you your gift?
Yeah, that's what I thought...
They meet at last...Artie and Crazy Alice!
http://www.howardstern.com/dtcms/tsimg/12_82788.jpg
I forgot to check the website on Thursday to see what the "We're all superstars!" crying chick looked like. Man, I wish I didn't.
http://howardstern.com/dtcms/tsimg/04_41686.jpg
Did Artie talk about Fridays roast?
Gilbert Gottfried remains as my all-time favorite regular guest. The man is evil funny.
was he on recently? I pretty much only listen when he is.
Holy shit! Artie vs. Sal/Richard has really blown up near the end of the last two shows. I highly recommend you catch today's replay if you can, especially at the end of the show. Artie really, REALLY hates Sal. The Slash and Cousin Brucie interviews were really good too.
Artie was being a huge prick. Sal is completely right that nothing Artie has done off the Stern show has been funny, and he can't take it. Yet he'll call Sal not funny all day long, and say Sal's not a comedian or a writer. Artie thinks he's fucking Seinfeld.
Sal is a disgusting gay pervert. Who cares what he has to say about anything?
Artie adds more to the daily dialog than Sal can ever hope to add. Granted I think a lot of Sal's more ridiculous bits are pretty damn funny, he could never add to the minute to minute like Artie does.
And yeah, that Slash interview was awesome. I knew he was crazy, but hearing some of the stuff come directly from him was pretty damn awesome. Especially since he seemed like a really low key guy during the interview. Tommy Lee teabagging him = lol.
I especially enjoyed Slash's story about getting blown by the 14 year-old chick.
This is true. I've heard some of Artie's stand-up on Raw Dog (the Sirius comedy channel). He's just average at best, and seems to be filthy just for filthy's sake. The Stern show is indeed his element, as he's brilliant on it just being himself and reacting to things and telling stories.
That said, I heard the replay, and while I side with Artie just because I like him way better than Sal or Richard, I still think he got a little out of line. Still, who on Earth has a better job than Artie? He works 20 hours a week, sleeps and eats on the job, gets to tell his boss to fire him knowing he never will, throws shit and gets permission to smoke in the studio...he's got the life.
That doesn't matter- after the show ends, he's retiring. Artie's already said he's a multi-millionaire and could retire right now if he wanted to.Quote:
After the show ends, his career is toast.
Oh, and:
http://www.howardstern.com/dtcms/tsimg/23_20353.jpg
I'm shocked, but the RuPaul interview today was awesome and hilarious.
BTW, I was a little worried when Artie called in "sick" yesterday, but at least he was in today and seemed to finally patch up things with Sal. Sort of.
Actually, the speech Artie gave Sal and Richard was pretty brutal, but at the same time he was 100% right with everything he said to them. They are treated like shit because they act like retards. Artie is treated better and paid more because he is far more established and holds a far higher ranking in the hierarchy of the show. Basically, he told Sal and Richard that he's funnier, more talented, and deserves to be treated better, and if they didn't like it, tough shit. Worry about your own job and improving yourself.
It was kinda weird hearing the usually self-depreciating Artie talk this way, but he was just being honest. And correct.
That said, I am getting a little sick of Artie threatening to quit, like he did again last week.
I only caught the beginning of the Rupaul interview, but I will say the Tube Bar clips were fucking amazing. I had never heard any of those before and didn't realize The Simpsons ripped them off completely. Very good shit.
Yeah, especially the "Al Caholic." The Simpsons ripped those all off. Moe even has the same gruff voice as Red did.
FYI- George Takei is in-studio all week. :) :)
I'm glad you mentioned something because this literally made my morning. What a great surprise getting in my car this morning and hearing George Takei doing an announcement about William Shatner. It put a huge smile on my face.
Also, getting to see Scott the Engineer do his first stand up gig ever when I go to see Artie on Friday is going to be fucking classic. There will be detailed impressions following the show.
Craig Gass just rose up in the ranks of my list of favorite recurring guests. His Alec Baldwin/Al Pacino story was hysterical.
And yay on Takei week. I was pissed when Artie called in "sick", but Takei and Gass definitely made up for it.
