Final Fantasy 11 beta for 360

I just got this with the new OXM and I'm installing it and registering it and its taking fucking FOOOREEEEVVVVVEEEER! Its friggin crazy all the crap you have to register. I hope you guys all have usb keyboards. I think I also screwed up my Playonline name since it gave me a bunch of random letters and it wouldnt allow me to back track. Oh well, as long as the game lets me choose a name its no big deal. It suppose to take like 50 something minutes to install the game! Damn! This is all bullshit so far. I know the games nothing special but I've played pretty much all the Final Fantasy's so far except 10two and 11 so I'll give it a shot.

Probably wont have a chance to give impressions though till late tonight. Let me know if anyone else got the disc.

I got it from OXM. I'm not sure if its on the shelf yet. Got back to trying this shit out only to find out I have to download EVEN MORE SHIT STILL! This is insane. PS2 online sucks a fat dick and its gay that Live is being tainted with this trash. Way to cave in Microsoft. They shoulda told Square to change it or piss off.

Honestly, don't bother with FFXI. The PC version had an already horribly unintuitive and clunky interface, and it's only worse when you only have a controller to play the game (unless you have a USB keyboard, in which it is SLIGHTLY easier). The thing is 5.5 GB BEFORE all the patches (and the game has been out for two years and gets patch updates all the fucking time). The game is uninteresting, horribly boring, too time consuming for its own good and too group intensive. It's pretty, but that's all it has going for it.

No, it does not require an Xbox Live Gold membership. You only need one of them free Silver accounts to play FFXI. Those bastards really know how to steal every penny brom you.

Actually, I thought it was a lot easier to play with the gamepad (PC version), they designed it for such and it worked out really well. The only good use for the keyboard was typing responses.

Ok, I finally played a little bit and damn, just damn. I didnt see any of the 360 pics but damn is this game shitty looking. I swear its not improved one bit. Well maybe except for the half assed high res attempt where some people may need binoculars to read some of the shit on screen. Also it looks blurry in spots and the graphics have that weird clashing (?) look when you turn. Like you guys said, its total ass. I thought it would look kind of nice being on the 360, but hell no, worst 360 game by far. It looks bad for a Xbox 1 game. Dont even take the time to install this. Fan or not, stay away.

You can use custom soundtracks in the PlayOnline menus. You can listen to what you want while installing.

Thank the lord. That PlayOnline music makes me want to kill puppies 5 minutes in, I can't imagine listening to it for years as a FFXI player...

PS: I keep getting "network busy" messages...

Don't care. Still want/need it. And in my previous post I put the "I" before the "X". I'll chalk it up as a typo, or maybe I secretly desire a re-done FF9 on the 360. Yeah, that's it.

And Sega did in fact charge you a fee called a Hunter's License to play PSO 1 & 2 on Live. The only reason I never got into it.

What's worse, any number of indie mmos out there that simply don't have the FF licence on them. The game has pretty graphics but somehow lacks the final fantasy charm. I think its because the game lacks a really strong narrative that the FF series usually has.

The game is actually a LOT of fun... I mean if you're ok with whoring your time away for little to no benefits. I think PSO is the only MMORPG (even though its quite diff. from the norm) that I didn't feel like I wasted quite a bit of time with after I finished playing it. WoW was fun, but I still got that feeling that my life was going nowhere when I look at my playtime and see it at "30 days, 8 hours, etc.".

If you have the patience of a Zen master, then I'm sure you'll LOVE FFXI... otherwise... yeah.

EDIT: Craptastic. Just checked the 360 thread and saw that that is the issue with the FF beta. So are there 2 discs that come with the magazine or what?

Ugh, the install took about 1.5 hours all told (sign up, install to hdd, patch, get a FFXI content ID), and the game looks like ass.

Playing with a keyboard is certainly a plus but I'm sitting 10' from a 50" screen and I can barely read the freakin text on the screen. Is the PS2 this unoptimized for "living room" play as well?

I'll play around with the beta a while since I invested so much time getting the damn thing up and running, but unless it improves 500% between now and launch, I can't see myself buying this game, much less paying a monthly fee for it.

Oh yeah, I think their whole sign up thing is really a ploy by the Xbox Live folks to make people remember how fucking sweet Live is when it's done right by a company. A random 8 character user ID? Yeah, that's a great idea ... almost as good as a ~20 digit "code" that is different for each game that your friends need to have to find you online.

Yeah, the game is really unforgiving to newbies. There is almost no direction as to what to do and all the NPCs who explain to you how to do things, do it in such a vague manner that it's no use speaking to them. Asking people now to help you out will garner no response, either, as FFXI has some of the biggest bitches in the world playing. No one gives any low lvl people any respect (low lvl is sub 40). If you want help with the game, I can tell you more about it on AIM or something.

Yeah.

Nearly 4 hours to set this mess up, then when it is all set up after jumping through 50 hoops, the game is crap and doesn't use any Xbox Live anything.

Horrible. I WON'T be buying this one.

Jeez, all the hate for this is intense. Maybe I shouldn't try it after all....... nah. I'll still give it a go. The 360's been pretty underwhelming so far and I don't think it could get any worse for me. I'll let it set up the 4-5 hour shit while I play the lovely Ico on another console. Having never played an MMO before I don't really have any expectations. I may not be so unimpressed. Now just to wait for the 17th....

Question: Is the game just bad on the 360? Was the PC version any good or the same?

What? WOW's system requirements are modest even for the year 2002. And it only costs 30 dollars at stores. And there's a free 10-day trial out there for anyone. Why can't you play it?

No, I'm not. My PC sucks and WoW would never be able to play on here. It's just a matter of low hard drive space and a RAM deficiency that I don't want to spend money on to fix. What I was trying to say was just something stupid about how WoW is too good of a game to be given to us console gamers on our 360s. Just a bad joke. That's all.

Yes, that was a major pain in the ass.

So far, I've had more fun joining a party and then running around exposing graphical glitches here and there. I know it's just a "beta" and there's gonna be hiccups here and there, but if this is how the PS2/PC version played, then I'm glad I didn't get involved when it originally hit.

I can't say it's totally horrible, though, as I've spent the last 5 hours playing it trying to get to a level 4. I might have to invest in a cheap USB keyboard to talk to anybody.

My randomly generated name is Chaokao, if you guys haven't given up on it yet..

That right there is a perfect example of how horribly unbalanced and unfair this game is to newbies. Once you get used to the game, you can easily reach lvl 5 well under an hour. But when you first start to play the game, it'll take you days just to reach level 10 and several more days after that to progress even further until you really start to get a grip on everything in the game. Honestly, you all need to just stop playing this game. It's not worth the trouble at all.
