some iPod questions

so long story short I got a used Ipod mini (4 gig model) for like 30 bucks or so

it's a little scuffed up and shit and it's pink but works perfectly fine

being used I don't have any manual or anything for the thing so I wanted to know how you turn the fucker off, and I don't mean just put it in sleep mode, because it seems even in sleep mode the battery is slowly draining

I have not for the life of me figured out how to turn the damn thing off

also do I have to use itunes to send music and podcasts and shit to it?

not that itunes is a bad program or anything I'm just wondering if I have options

To turn it off hold the play button for a couple of seconds.

There are other freeware programs to get music on your ipod, and I think the windows version might support musicmatch. However, iTunes is the easiest and least hasslefree way to do it. Even if you don't use itunes to listen to music it isnt too hard to open up and throw music onto your ipod w/ it.

Would it be normal for 30 minutes of video viewing on a new ipod video (30gig) to drain the battery life close to half? I think mine is messed up :(

see thats what I thought and it didnt do that at first and sure enough tonight just now it did

but then again I whiped it and updated it's software yesterday (ive had it since saturday) and i hadnt tried since I did the update so maybe that fixed what ever it's problem was

You can use Winamp to upload stuff to your iPod, but it's not nearly as intuitive as iTunes and you need to install shit to it I believe. Just use iTunes and turn off Auto Upload on your iPod (plug in iPod to PC, open iTunes, preferences, ipod, manual upload). Then, you just drag and drop everything onto it. Easy as pie.

Yeah, that's what I go with. It's no trouble at all to just open up iTunes whenever I want to copy.

The iPod Winamp plugin is the slickest way to copy music off of the iPod, though. (not that you can do that in iTunes anyway)

ml_iPod is an excellent plugin for Winamp. I like it a hell of a lot better than itunes.

I'm still not sure what everyone things is so damn special about itunes.

Beacuse the last version of winamp used by anyone who loves iTunes was 3.0

Winamp 5.12 + ml_iPod is the best way to go for an iPod, period.

Wait, didn't you just get that thing, via the UPS scam? What was wrong with it? I ask because I'm thinking of getting the video ipod and I keep hearing about problems with it (you, perkyskirt, etc.)...
