News: College Kids are Stupid

EDIT: oh, and btw, Harvard kids are stupid as shit too. They did a survey there and the faculty and 21 out 29 grads did not know why we had seasons or why the sky was blue.

Most people don't know why the sky is blue, and it isn't a reflection of the ocean that most people think it is:

WHY IS THE SKY BLUE?



The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.

However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.

As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white.

I wonder how many open-enrollment freshman were included in the survey. We have some schools around here (Toledo, namely) that are open-enollement and accept absolutely anyone that has a high school diploma and the ability to pay. One girl from my Econ class took four years to pass her 8/9th grade math proficiency test and got 'accepted' there. We were all shocked to find out she qualified for early graduation.

No, engineering. My teachers think I’m a really good writer and are surprised that I have such an aptitude for it, considering science and tech students are usually not very good at writing or literature. I’d kind of agree with them because so far I’ve been able to easily get at least a B in those courses. The key for me is to give myself enough time to do the assignment AND get multiple people to proof read it before I turn it in, including the teacher.

So, no I'm not one, but I could easily do the class work to be one.
