Word on the hardcore joystick community is that the stick is ass and a bitch to mod. You're better off either waiting for another Xbox 360 stick or getting a custom one built once the hackers figure out how to properly solder to a Xbox 360 controller.Quote:

It's not even about the circular motions. It's every move that requires you to press multiple buttons simultaneously or any combo that requires you to press different buttons in quick succession (here I am thinking mostly of the Vs. games). I can't bust out EX moves in combos using a pad when I play Third Strike... like Dudley's standing roundhouse into his EX punch thing, I can't do that on a pad.
The only way it becomes playable is when they redesign the controls, like in MotM when they got rid of all multiple button press moves and made them quarter circle commands or charge moves.
BonusKun used the Neo CD pad really well...he even prefers it to console sticks. Pretty weird, but playing his Gato, Geese, Kim, Kyo, and Rock made me believe. More the exception than the rule, though...Quote:

My friend is an excellent Urien and Hugo player and he uses the Dualshock 2. I have no clue how he manages. I have MAS sticks, X-Arcade, Red Octane, Hori, and other assorted sticks at his disposal whenever he visits- yet he still prefers using pads.

Yeah, that comment was more a jab at 3D fighters, because I hate them all. I still use a stick to play them, but I guess I can mash random buttons or tap tap tap just as well on a pad.
I got the joke, but I just wanted to clear it up for people that might not know otherwise. I played a friend of mine on Monday in 3rd strike and he refused to play with anything other than that crappy Anniversary Edition controller, despite my having the anniversary stick and my sanwa/happ modded pelican stick there...problem was he wasn't doing very well, regardless :).Quote:

As far as pressing multiple buttons go, I don't find it that hard to press two adjacent buttons simultaneously, and most pads have enough buttons available that you can assign a couple of them as multiple buttons.
The worst thing about playing SF with the DualShock, aside from the dpad, is that the games themselves have such stupid limitations when it comes to button configuration.
I like having weak and strong attacks on the face buttons, and medium attacks on the opposite shoulder buttons, which is no problem at all.
But I also would like to set R2=LK+HK and L2=LP+HP, that way I can have PP and KK, and if I press both shoulder buttons on one side, I get PPP and KKK.
Unfortunately, every SF port ever can only set PP as LP+MP and KK as LK+MK.
This is one of the reasons why I prefer MAME for SF.
I played SSF2T over a friend's house on CPS2 and really wanted to learn how to play that.
My 3rd strike isn't awesome or anything, it's just kinda discouraging to know that I'm rusty, I never learned how to play the game really well to being with, but I've yet to find anyone to play with on the regular that can call me on all the mistakes I make. Still, though, it's been long enough to give it another shot. Monday it is...

i saw this in some magazine a couple of months ago. i just got my ps2 in november but i don't have any fighting games. most of what i play is on saturn and dreamcast. but...now that i know this game is comming i tracked this sucker down and just ordered it a few minutes ago. i was originally thinking about getting the snk clicky pad one that was released with kof 94 re-bout or whatever. but i think this'll work better for me.
and the ps2 is fine for me. i don't have an x-box and i have loads of friends that live in the area who play fighting games and are even in a few tournaments a year. so...yeah. this works out great for me.

The Magic Box can't recognize anything besides the standard controller.
My Dreamcast arcade stick and PS2 DDR pad choked on dick on that thing.
Weird. I'm pretty sure my Dreamcast stick worked fine on it. I played some TS with it when it first came out on XB. I think with it and my saturn controller though the Magic Box wouldnt recognize one button or something.
The L and R analog triggers on the standard controllers are different from the C and Z buttons on the DC arcade stick. The magic box is set up to recognize the triggers but completely ignores the C and Z buttons, which is fine if you're playing some sort of 4 button fighting game.
You should see me play MvC2 on a DC pad. It's awe inspiring.

That Neo-Geo Pad 2 looks great, especially with it having a thumbstick instead of the now traditional cross key. Cross key D-pads aren't worth a damn when it comes to doing QC/HC/360 motions.

anyone else pick this up today? i played through alpha 1 and 2 and it feels nice to not have to dust off the saturn to play these again. there's no arranged music for alpha 1 though. makes me kinda sad. it's still fun, though. i forgot all about those chain combo's.
I already have all of these games, but HSFA just sounds too awesome to pass up.
