I picked it up today, I've beaten all of them cept Gem Fighters I suck sooo damn much at that game :(
just need to keep trying to unlock the new mode
is it just me or are the US versions more difficult at the same level than the Japanese versions, having just played through some of the games on a borrowed japanese version and having played through these today they just seem by default a good bit harder
I picked this up today along with the strategy guide. These are both high quality releases. The guide is HUGE. I just played through everything to play Hyper. Pretty neat except you can only play one-player in training mode. Kind of disappointing, but when I get to play some friends, I'm sure that feeling will go away. Its fun to have all those styles in one game. I do feel like a beta tester for Capcom in a way because you know Capcom Fighting Evolution 2(its inevitable) will be the same thing, just on a much grander scale. Its not a bad thing by any means. This release is tops. GO BUY IT!
Yeah, that guide is extensive, but it doesn't offer quite the in-depth strategies as seen in the Alpha 2 guide published by Versus Books. Still, it's informative tool adequate to educate newcomers. Still wish we had a confirmation that an Xbox version was in the works.
Evolution 2 better have a much better style with tighter game mechanics. The original may as well just been called Mugen and called it a day.

This game is disgustingly awesome. Played through all the games at least once last night, unlocked Hyper SFA, and wow. Amazing mode. Will probably replace Hyper SF2 as the versus game of choice when everyone from school gets back to Boston and we get everybody together. I love the SF2CE ISM.
I hope somebody compiles a more complete list of what all the star dip switches do soon. I really wish there was a way to get the arranged SFA soundtrack in the game, I mean, it's there in the HSFA sound test. So is a lot of crazy stuff, including the Sakura vocal theme from SPF2T :D
Having a switch to activate the SFA3U arrow on the title screen is pretty cool, and I love all the other options available in the earlier games, like A3-style super move input for A1 and A2. If you were on the fence about buying this, and you like any of the SFA games at all, you need to own this. $30 for all this is a steal. If they went back and rereleased SF Anniversary Collection structured like this, I would probably buy it again, too. :(
Is there a way to change the way throws are done in Alpha 3?
I'd prefer 3rd Strike style, or even single-button throws to the A3 style.
Also, how does the 3rd-strike-ism handle throws and super cancels?
can't you set the L and R to be a throw button for alpha 3? unless you mean something else....

Yeah, you can, but it's still not a perfect solution.
I usually have 3K and 3P set up for doing throws and recoveries, but some A3 characters('gief, claw, Gen, etc.) have specials assigned to 3K and 3P, so I can't throw with those buttons.
Sure, I could set them up as 2K and 2P, but that would make recoveries harder.
Ideally (this is how I set it up for dualshock on MAME) I'd like to be able to set R2 as LK+HK, R1 as MK, L2 as LP+HP, and L1 as MP.
That way, it's easy to do both 2x and 3x commands.
Unfortunately, the only option for 2x on console is light+medium, so the closest I can get on any playstation port is to have R1=HK, R2=LK+MK, L1=HP, L2=LP+MP, and the weak and medium attacks on the face buttons.
The problem with that setup is that ever since SFII for SNES, I've liked having medium attacks on the shoulder buttons and light and hard attacks on the face buttons.
If they would just have a more advanced button config menu, all would be well, but as it is, any config I can come up with is a compromise in one way or another.
I was hoping for a one button throw option in SFA3... no such luck. If it bothers you that much, though, you can turn throws off totally. Craziness.Quote:

CURSES! this is why i hate these ps controlers for street fighter. always have. back in the day i didn't get good at street fighter until the genisis super came out and we got the 6 button controler. triggers make no sense to me for this kind of game. i really gotta get on ordering that saturn ps2 pad.

I find myself actually performing well on the PS2 pad. I'm able to pull off Crouch-Cancel infinites a lot easier than on the DC pad. Custom Combos are much easier, as well. what's an OTG custom combo?.....OH....off the ground? uhm...i've done that once...a long time ago. it's hard to do though so i forgot about it. maybe it's just hard to do with guy/fei long/cammy....'cause those are the only people i use in alpha 3.
OTG=Off The Ground, yes. I only use top tier characters (top tier whore SRK player OMG) and it turns out that they're mostly their V counterpart except for Dhalsim. I used to be able to do Akuma's OTG CC easily but I haven't been able to do it at all on the PS2 version. It's driving me batty.
maybe you have to mess with the settings....? like....aren't there different versions of alpha 3? i don't just mean the upper stuff. i remember a lot of people saying the dreamcast one was off and the saturn version was better and blah blah blah. i dunno.
So, verdict here is that the same content is in both the American and Japanese releases?

Yeah they're older and due to their valued stock, anychance of seeing capcom make another game baised on their franchise is never gonna happen unless Marvel themselves paid them to do it.
Anyway... I just nabbed this last night and I'm really going nuts over the number of modes and options this disk has for every game on there. Being able to play alpha 3 upper without having to look at the downgraded graphics on my DC is a dream come true, plus I can't belive how good the colors look now.
I was hoping at some point it would finally get emulated by the mame community, but capom got off their ass and did it themselves. Bravo! :tu:

I never got the point of those controllers. When I bought mine, I noticed that it felt alot harder to use compared to the original xbox pad and decided to trade it back for the stick. $10 is a cheap deal for graphics, so I wouldn't mind using that on some other game.
They are worth quite a bit on ebay now, thanks to shipping costs. :\
The problem with playing SF on the dualshock is that the dpad is so seldom used by most people that it never gets properly worked in.
I actually play better on my worn-in dualshock than I do on my ASCII-Pad FT.
are you talking about the 6 buttons with the pictures of street fighter characters on them? those didn't feel too comfortable to me. they feel a bit....clunky.
I would suggest if you want to use a PSX pad for playing, go with one that has a real d-pad to it. It'll change your game for the better.
Or as always, get an adapter for your sat.

The Alpha Anthology guide is missing quite a few things (such as frame data and a few other things) that the SFAC guide had. It's due to space limitations and there being so many versions of each character. The authors explained the entire ordeal on www.shoryuken.com somewhere in the fightng games forum. It is still a great source of info for the noob and intermediate Alpha player.
So, SRK guy still wrote what little is in it? I'm an eternal Alpha nub, so it might be worth the investment just for the move list.
Then again, the Japanese version had the movelist built in. The guy who wrote the "secrets" FAQ for this on GameFAQs suspects it had something to do with Bradygames and this guide. Hm. That's shady.
Although, the same guy also bitches about the loss of the arrange versions of the Alpha 2's. I honestly don't see the big deal.
what do you mean by arrange versions?
Our normal SFA2 is Japan's arranged mode. At least I'm pretty sure it is.
