When I began my game I chose "I Like MGS2!" (because I really do) and Snake was in a Raiden skin.
OMG!
My only gripe about the online is the shameless spawn camping you'll see in team deathmatch. Also, don't rely on the 3rd person auto-aim to save you in a firefight, it's touchy as fuck. I recommend quick-switching to 1st person and shoot for the upper-body / head.
I also tried to play some of the MGS3 single player, the camera worked fine. Thus confirming what I, and everyone else on the planet except MarkRyan, already knew.
I said "I Like MGS3!" and I don't know what I got, I guess maybe those extra face paints? I dunno. I was hoping for something cool.Quote:

Just got home with it, gonna hop online in a few if anyone is playing. My name for the online will be Andy (or Andy787 if it's taken). I've added everyone's online name who has posted to the first post to make it easier, so post your online name and I'll add you. Here's who I have so far:
Andy / Andy
Chux / Chucker
K3V / K3V
Stark / Spruchy
I'll be around tomorrow during the day if anyone wants my doom fist.
I'll be JoshWilkesBooth because I know that'll be available.
Damn, MGS3 is awesome. I like pressing R1 to stare at Eva's boobs.
I really don't know why I haven't played this before.
Oh baby, everyone wants your doom fist.Quote:

Let me know if it's worth picking this game up to play online. If it is, I might pick it up on Saturday and join you guys. I bought the Network adapter about two years ago (don't ask why I got it) and it would be interesting to finally get some use out of it.
Do you need a special adapter to use a headset with the PS2?
Made up a sig banner for MGS3:S, if anyone else wants one let me know.
Player Name: KUWABARA
I hate you assholes that don't use the same name for all your online stuff. So confusing.
I got it, need to pick up a network adapter and headset after work.
That promo movie that plays when you boot up the Persistence disc is goddamn hilarious.
Based on last night, I had a blast. Whether or not it has longevity, we'll see.Quote:

I pre-ordered mine and had no problem picking up both the Saga disc and my LE yesterday. I was kinda surprised they still had the Saga disc but luckily they had some left. I just started playing the single player late last night but I kind of dozed off but I'll get through all the extras eventually. I just want to check out the third person camera and move around with it myself.
And wow, $150 on the LE on eBay? It's really not even worth that price if it's just about the extras. And it doesn't even come with a full color book like MGS2 Substance and the first MGS3 release, wtf!?!
This is retarded:

And there are lots more too:

But, you get the idea.
Which EB store is it that still have the Saga disc? I might have to give them a call...Quote:

I played this online for five hours last night. My initial impressions are it is very fast paced. The camera seems like it can be a bit of a chore to command through out all of this action but it is manageable. Despite all the action there is a bit of depth there as well. For example everyone has radios that you can see and if you shoot them, that player can no longer use their headset to communicate to his team.
There is a game mode where one player is snake and the rest are mooks. What is fun about this mode is that snake gets the camo suite and can be invisible for periods of time. Snake also gets the porno mags to distract players as well. In this mode he gets many gadgets to accomplish his goal of securing the microfilm and returning it to the goal, but since the game is so action fast paced it just seems easier to run and gun.
Hopefully with more play I will be able to discover more of the intricacies of the game.
For those who aren't reading the Online Gaming forum, I made sig banners for everyone listed in the first post. Check it: http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/s...post1063597977
Thanks for the info. I live in Brooklyn so no easy way to get there... Oh well, I missed out. C'est la vie.Quote:

I think the LE is kind of a waste. Go to Frys or whatever and get the standard edition for 23.99 Do NOT sweat it if you wanted the LE and didn't get one.
MSX Metal Gear is oh so much better then the NES one.
And I'm a little annoyed at MG2... they have some points in the game where they say, "refer to the manual for this info"... well Konami fucked us and didn't give us the manual so that doesn't really do much good does it?
Well, in the manual you get with your game it says that that's only the partial manual. The complete manual in PDF form is available from Konamis website. The exact URL is listed on like, the first page of the manual the game came with.
It's also discussed on gamefaqs.
Yeah, the url is www.konami.com/gsQuote:

Wow, PS2 actually has an online game worth playing now.
Yes it does. It feels good to actually get some use out of the network adapter I've had for six months. Since Konami had a brainfart and didn't include proper documentation for the MSX games, here are the tap codes for them, courtesy of the GameFAQs board -
The first tap code in the game after you follow the Green Beret is
140.82
Campbell changes his frequency to
140.66
Campbell changes it to
140.24
In MG1, Schneider's frequency is
120.79
Playing MGS3 for the first time right now, and got through the first mission last night. Dear god, I'd forgotten how badly Kojima needs a story editor. I know he lets you actually play something now and then, and it's very well done when it happens, but dear god do these people ever shut up!?
James
You shut up. Shut your whorish mouth.
The first mission is basically just a way to set up the plot. Most of the game isn't THAT cutscene-heavy.
And on subsequent playthroughs you can just skip all the cutscenes anyway. That's what I do.
The game gets a LOT lighter on story / codec once you get through the game's introduction. Certainly a lot less interruption than in the other MGS games.Quote:

I caught the "collecting pants" reference. I really like Snake vs. Monkey, I'm guessing more levels open up as you beat the main game?
James
For those who are curious, you can also find fan-translated versions of the instruction manuals for both MSX games on the following sites.Quote:

The latter teaches how to interpret tap codes.
Heh yeah it had no real consequence in Subsistence. It was just a bit different in the first release where if you picked MGS2 you got the goof Raiden mask and if you picked "I like MGS1!" you got the regular Snake face reveal so it's probably best just to pick "I like MGS3!" since it unlocks more stuff.Quote:

I like the new camera too. The old still has its uses though - I prefer the Splinter Cell style camera for the jungle and the overhead for indoors. I couldn't imagine a Metal Gear game without a fixed camera.
Goodness I suck at this game. I mean, I can't even get past the FIRST set of soldiers without it turning into a big gunfight. Even with the new camera.
All future Metal Gears just need to stay indoors and give me a radar. I hate the jungle.
:lol:Quote:

I'm still trying to find out how Major Zero's advice on cutting the bridge ropes in that first area does anything useful in helping me take out the guards passing on it.
I've given up on not killing every living thing I come across. I don't think I have a stealthy bone in my body. Although I don't think lying in the grass and head-shotting the clueless guards will ever get old.
James
+1 one for the suck party at this game. I'm just like chillin in the grass...and they guards are like "!?" and I just freak out running in circles with the camera spinning and panning in and out.
Hehe, I had the same thing happen to me. Although I chose to knife them to death as opposed to shooting them. I LOVE the brighter jungle setting. It's far more lively than MGS 1 and 2's areas. The old camera is good for when you've got multiple guards in a wide area, but otherwise, the new camera system totally smokes it.Quote:

I remember reading somewhere that Kojima wanted to use a third-person camera system for MGS4, so what he did was implement it in Subsistence as an experiment. Looks like the experiment was a success.Quote:

Sold my extra for $110+. Yay for capitalism.
Is it a win for capitalism or a loss for humanity that someone would pay over a hundred bucks for it?
If you shoot the bridge ropes near where one of the guards is walking it'll cause the bridge there to tilt and the guard will lose his balance and slide off into the gorge. I used to do this all the time back with the original MGS3 demo.Quote:

That's weird because I cut like all the ropes on one side of the bridge on the first MGS3 game release disc and the guards never fell or lost their balance. I might have to try it again.Quote:

Hot damn, i used the thermal goggles like the entire game. Almost every boss and every area. You're screwed. Actually tho, they might be somewhere a bit later. I know early on I got a new item and died - didn't return to get that item when i continued - and it showed up at a later part of the game. Just make sure you check every inch of some of the buildings coming up.
I just played through this game again since it first came out. Loved every minute of it. The MGS series has endless replay value to me. There is so many different ways to get through each area and battle.
Well crap, I really hadn't thought of using the thermal goggles as a cheap way to pick out easily-overlooked enemies blending into the background. I have them as an out-of-backpack item and everything, just hadn't used them much.
Time to try a new tactic, I think.
James
Yeah I use the thermal goggles for a good deal of areas such as fighting both The End and alternatively the GRU ambush unit as well as the fight with The Fear and places where I know I won't see the enemy right away.
Helps a lot with The Boss too. Thermal goggles make the game 10x easier.Quote:

**edit** I'm talking about The End.
I beat the game again and it's still fucking awesome. It just kind of sucked how they just refrained from letting you use the 3rd person camera on The Boss but the fight is awesome anyway.
I'm also wondering which do you guys think is the cooler Snake? Big Boss or Solid Snake?
I just started this game. I just finished that long intro. I'm pumped for the rest.
I stopped playing it in favor of God of War (a game with actual gameplay constantly going on)
I'll probably pick it back up in the summer.
I'm doing the same thing but after beating MGS3. That game is awesome.Quote:
