Anyone else pick this up? Surprised I didn't see a topic. How can you go wrong with Samurai and some dude sporting a giant 'fro, within fifteen steps of each other?
Haven't spent much time playing it yet, but I have done about four 'games' so far. Two ended in horrible (yet amusing) deaths, the third I just walked away from everything, and I'm still playing the fourth. I like the non linear aspect of it, though the speed of the dialogue is driving me absolutely insane.

It's a freeform adventure game with a competent sword fighting system built into it. The space of the world is pretty small, but what makes the game interesting is the relatively non linear possibilities offered to you, as you have quite a bit of freedom to write your own little Samurai adventure.
My only gripes with the game so far are slightly painful loading times (given how small the total world is, this really is a pain), and the agonizingly slow text speed. As much as I hate bad voice acting, this game could have used it, or at least some way to advance through text quickly.
The emphasis seems to be on short adventures in the set they provide you. Ally with one of the two groups, or don't, collect the many swords (and many attendant moves), finish the game in different ways, and generally Kurosawa yourself to pieces.
I'd give it a rent, or get it from a place that does returns, until you decide if its your type of game. On the other hand, if you're completely gonzo about Samurai stuff, grab it, since I don't see anything glaringly horrible, just a few annoyances that might turn some people off.
Samurai looks very cool to me, and I'd like to pick it up soon. I really want to try out the nonlinearity of the game, just to see what kinds of situations I can get myself into. Plus, I'm finding myself becoming a fan of Kurosawa's films, and especially Toshiro Mifune. (Seven Samurai rocks me!)
Went to Funco yesterday to pick up the Sky Gunner demo (damned nice), and got this as well.
I must admit, it wasn't at all what I was expecting (I left before you posted impressions) and quite good! I'm really enjoying this game a lot, especially since it's so well done in such an interesting area.
I definately agree the game needs voice acting (it would be SO much better since there's so much going on and the text moves so slowly), but the music is incredible. I need the soundtrack to this.
My only real complaint is that too many "major" characters can't be normally killed, only under certain circumstances. This rather annoys me, as any time you really start working on someone, it cuts off, and you can't finish the job if you want to. Oh well, still good stuff.
Now to figure out what I need to do to unlock everything else...
Well, I didnt know it came out either. I will definately check it out this week. I heard quite a few good things about this game, and I love samurai games :)
Playing through "Way of the Samurai" is painful...
Not because of this game is bad (it's quite the contrary. WotS is great), but just for the fact that it reminds me again I'll (most likely) never get to see the proper sequel to Bushido Blade, which I loved so much.
What's the deal with the black Samuari with the giant 'fro? I didn't think there were too many of them running around acient Japan. He looks like that guy from Enter the Dragon ("Mr. Han, suddenly I'd like to leave your island!" "That is not possible!"). :)

I'm renting WOTS and I'm liking it a lot. I love non-linear gameplay.
But I'm wondering how often does the game let you save? I hate dying and restarting the game over and over.
