I Hate Collection Agencies
I got a voice mail message at home yesterday from a collection agency that stated that they were looking for someone by my name, only they said middle initial "J", and mine is an "S". I paused in terror for a second thinking if there could possibly be a bill I had neglected, children I could have fathered, etc. ;) I couldn't think of anything, so I deleted the message.
I just got another message from the same place. I write down the 800 number and the case number and call. Their VRU has two options: Press 1 to talk about your account or press 2 if they dialed a wrong number. I choose 2. The rep on the other end asks if my social security number ends in 9232 or whatever. I tell him that it does not, and says that he will take me off the list within 24 to 48 hours and to disregard any calls in that period.
What the fuck? Although I was confident that the call wasn't really for me, it still scared the shit out of me for a few minutes both the first and the second time. Picking every damn person in the US with a certain name and harrassing them is a fucking joke. That shit is worse than solicitation calls. Has anyone else had this happen to them?
