So by acknowleging the scientifically backed data that humans do have discernable, genetic differences between different groups I'm now somehow a mad-scientist type attempting to create an improved race? Yes, how absurd to think that the races have differences that are not just social. That's why Indian tribes blood test to see how much a person is actually "Indian" (or from said tribe), it's because the blood test reveals "social" information. That's why I can get a blood-test that reveals my ancestral past, and a black person can do the same and reveal their ancestral history as well - apparently the whole thing is just bunk. Where is the "science" debunking these types of tests if it's all BS?
I posted several, mainstream "legitimate" links backing my opinion. Geez, minorities (and all peoples) have even been helped by these types of studies, yielding race-specific medicines. Yes, the same science that you claim smacks down my mindset is being used to combat race-specific diseases. I did acknowledge that social interactions can have an effect on racial differences (real or percieved) but the bottom line is there are discernable genetic differences. With or without the data, why is it such a crime to even discuss it? I've done nothing wrong, said nothing that I'd consider to be outright "hateful", just attempted to deconstruct a politically correct opinion.
We went through this before. I suppose it depends on what you think the word "race" means. Again, from M-W.com:Quote:

Transmissible by descent? Do they mean genetics? Either way, there ARE discernable genetic differences between what we'd classify as races (or at least different groups of people). You'd like to think it's humans alone that do the classifying (and this isn't necessarily NOT true) but modern science has shown this is not entirely the case. How else is that someone's race can be determined (without even looking at a picture) by a blood or even a semem sample?
To back your statement though I suppose social factors can and do play into what "racial distinction" means, you would likely argue that it is the only factor. I, and apparently many scientists would disagree.
I've been on this board for a long time (posting now and then) and take offence to your (big surprise here) knee-jerk labeling. I'd be more likely to start an Archos Homeland thread than anything else.Quote:

I can tell you that in the Detroit area, anti-white racism is prevelant. (The reverse holds true just outside the city - I guess I can say "past 8 mile" now that there's that movie.)Quote:

1) When I lived there, it made me feel angry at them.
2) It meant I spent little time in Detroit, and virtually never at night. That just hurts the people in Detroit, depriving them of white money in the local economy.
3) People often dislike people who look or think differently from them. At some point, whites are responsible for black anti-white hate. But jealousy, religion and ignorance are often part of the problem.
As far as Asians go, yes, as a group there are many very racist in the "old country" and the immigrant parents. I don't see that at all with the American-born Asians. The Asian guys don't like the white guys taking their women, but that's not racism.
Yes, because it isn't scientifically backed. What IS scientifically backed is that race IS NOT genetic. It is the accepted scientific cannon that has a massive body of evidence to support it and leading figures in the areas of genetics, medicine, anthropology, etc. accept it. This includes the National Institute of Health which, after mapping the human genome, delcared that there is only one race - the human race.Quote:

reading this thread has made me hate white people even more... god i hate you crackers... in all that is mighty black jesus will strike you down...
Maybe. The thing about the music isn't something that upsets me a great deal. I don't set around thinking "man those racest" but I do think they are assholes who front to damn much over nothing. I think I was trying to give an example (at least in this thread anyway) of how they could misunderstand my room mate and see him as racist. I may have not made that clear though, I'm not exactly the best at making clear points :(Quote:

I'm not going to bother reading sphere79 post. Its long and I imagine dumb. Also I doubt any of the points he is trying to make matter.
Yes, I think it would probably be a good idea if we were all a little less PC and white people got to talk about the shit that pisses them off about other groups. IF it can be done some what civilly, then everyone could grow from it. Groups of people can be just like individuals. Just like it isn't good for a person to keep shit bottled up, it isn't good for a group to keep shit bottled up. But I guess the trick is if white people as a group can be intelligent and debate rationally with out being emotional and hateful.
Having said that, the genetics argument doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if so and so DNA is different or not. For the best society, everyone needs an equal chance to do what they want in life regardless if people are or are not the same, worse, better, whatever. Maybe women are in fact weaker and stupider. But if the one exception can cure cancer, the system should be set up so that she has very little resistance in doing so. The same goes for minorities. Maybe they are better, maybe they are worse, whatever, it doesn't matter, they should be able to at least try to achieve what they want in life. Their successes are good for the country as a whole.
And that is why we need groups looking out for minorities. White people are currently the majority so they don't really need organized groups to make sure they get a part of the pie. Minorities can't always say that. Are some of these people in these groups racist? Oh hell yeah. Are some of them making the problem worse? You bet your ass. But ideally, there is a greater need for them to have organized voices than there is for white people regardless if these groups have dumb fucks in them
Oh and sphere, quit talking to gozen. He is a hateful little bastard that lives to bate you and anyone else that will react to his hateful horseshit.
what are you talking about
Because as we all know, once scientists discover something and make statements about it, what is known about those things can NEVER be expanded upon or changed in anyway. Science never advances. Time is linear, memory is a stranger, history is for fools.Quote:

This has lead to new medicines, better health diagnosis abilities, and companies that specialize in tracing ones family/ancestral/tribal/group (what ever term you want to use) history through genetics.
How are things like this possible, if race is not genetic exactly? Tell me how the hell it's possible that DNA can be used to trace someone's ancestry/race/background if race isn't genetic? How are there race-specific medicines and why are they developed by studying genetics?
Well golly if that there government agency says so it must be true. Here's another government funded enitity that seems to offer a different view:Quote:

The sorority planned and conducted major informational conferences on the Human Genome Project and its impact on minority communities. The conferences covered a variety of topics--from basic genetics and HGP history to gene testing and careers in genetics. Held in Chicago in 2003, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. in 2001, Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus in 2001, Philadelphia in 2000, and New Orleans in 1999, the conferences have sparked numerous follow-up meetings and training sessions led by members of the educational foundation.
In 1996, DOE HGP partnered with Tuskegee University to present the 3-day conference, “Plain Talk About the Human Genome Project.” The conference brought together internationally recognized scientists, bioethicists, and legal scholars from government, industry, and academia to discuss the ELSI of the use and misuse of genetic information. In rare "both-sides-of-the-argument" discussions*, speakers expressed apprehension about the project and the use of its resulting genetic information. Concerns ranged from the fear of actuarial classifications of "genetic exceptionalism" to the burden African Americans would face if they were among those labeled by some as a biological underclass. Focused particularly on how the data might affect African Americans, the meeting also was a vehicle for students from Tuskegee and other historically black institutions to meet with genome scientists, hear the issues, and explore career possibilities in genomics. Proceedings from this conference are available as a book, Plain Talk About the Human Genome Project."
While the conferences were organized to stave legitimate fears groups may have had concerning the HGP, there was discussion of the possible benefits, mainly in medical fields.
I guess the folks who wrote this perspective titled "Implications of biogeography of human populations for 'race' and medicine" Sarah Tishkoff (Dept. of Biology, University of Maryland) and Kenneth Kidd (Dept. of Genetics, Yale School of Medicine) are just barking up the wrong tree, because race isn't genetic. Plus, we all know that educational institutions such as UM and Yale are breeding grounds for those "both sides" kind of stormfront bigots.
Yes, ornl.gov, latimes.com and the Scientific American are all misrepresenting information so that stormfront users can distort it and have an excuse to geneticly classify people, when assloads of people (of all races, creeds and colors, all over the goddamn globe) do it socially now anyway. That makes total fucking sense.Quote:
