Light guns on HDTV.

I was reading in another thread about HDTV compatible light guns and decided to check out Saturn games like Virtua Cop 2, to see if they even worked on my HDTV. Evidently, it doesn't work at all.

So, does a game like HOTD 3 on the Xbox work on an HDTV with any of the 3rd party licensed guns, or is it pretty much a dead deal? I find it hard to believe that a console that supports 480p and in some cases 720p, wouldn't support light gun games on an HDTV set. Is this true, or do light gun games on the Xbox work with an HDTV set?

Someone else mentioned that a rear projection set doesn't work with lightguns, yet I've played arcade games like Virtua Cop 2 and HOTD 2 in arcades using a rear projection set. Did this setup not make it into the home conversions?

rear projection is one thing, but progressive scan is another...normal light guns work only with interlaced displays.

I hear good things about it and the technology is something I've wanted to see since I heard about the eyetoy. Basically, the gun is just a wireless controller with a trigger and there's a camera that you put near the TV that watches where you're aiming and relays the screen coordinates to the game. Guncon2, compatible and everything.

Also, I thought the Mad Catz (or whoever) green uzi-looking gun for HOTD3 had an HDTV variant that was very similar in packaging and even the same price as the normal one...it just had a little caption that said it worked with HDTV.

Did anyone buy the Silent Scope gun that was HOTD3 compatible? Was that HDTV compatible as well?

I'd seen a simular lightgun at Fry's, that was supposed to be HDTV compatible. I'm really bummed that my Saturn light gun games won't work on an HDTV set. These games will become obsolete in the next 10 years or so, if they discontinue making SDTV sets.

If? There's no "if" about it. They WILL since all broadcasts will be in HD.

I think the next-gen system's guns might not be light guns. They'll probably be like that eRealGames RGT thing with position sensors.

Supposedly the Silent Scope rifle is HDTV compatible, but I can't attest to that personally- I use an S-Video TV for my original Xbox. It's said to NOT work on plasma/LCD/projection displays. :(

I have the Silent Scope and HOD3 w/the rifle. Honestly I have never tried either with my HDTV.

I'll give a try and relay my findings.

Update:

Both HOD3 and Silent Scope worked fine with the Pelican Light Rifle.
Silent Scope needed to have the brightness cranked to ~75%, but that's no different than on a normal set. HOD3 actually looked pretty nice in ws progressive scan.

Question: Has anybody tried a Guncon on a HDTV?

If it doesn't work, looks like I will need to invest in one of these:

I believe that it stated somewhere on Namco's old site that the GunCon did not work with HDTVs.
