Does the upgrade system allow you to carry progress over from one playthrough to the next, like DMC, or force you to start over each time, like the previous Oni's?

Sooo... what's the deal with the SF characters? Are they just costumes? Does using the costume unlock hadokens or something? I must know more!
I believe they're just skins but basically the same characters underneath.Quote:

Upgrade system is poor. I beat the game finally at 30 hours and unlocked all 3 special contumes, goofy weapons, and most of the reg weapons and accessories, but the only way to carry over is to play normal mode again. If I start a new mode, i.e. hard, oni mode, etc. you start from scratch. This pisses me off.Quote:

There is a combo system in Oni 4, but it's more based on kills in a given time frame. For me I like the newest version because you have an upgradeable arsenal of special moves along with criticals and everything + you can switch on the fly between both characters + if you do a level 3 attack then hit L2 at max charge your partner and you do a super oni spell that rocks the enemy. I've always played Oni as a counter game, so for me I don't like that I have to be so agressive in DMC lol. I like to wait for my enemy to attack, react and then launch into a massive critical that clears the room (so yes I totally see your point DMC and GoW are still pretty much the pinnacle of 3D action games).Quote:

Special costume 3 are the SF costumes. They are just for looks, but you also get music along when you wear them. Like Soki is Ryu, so you get the SF theme when you start the game again. Roberto as Guile is spot on. The others costumes are just ok. I prefer special costumes 1 and 2 over the SF ones.Quote:

kickass
found the Street Fighter costume pics:

I can understand that. Personally, I like having more variety in number of moves and attacks per button but I can still enjoy a game like Onimusha 4 and Resident Evil 4 on it's own merits and play system.Quote:

I was hoping that the Onimisha series would end in 3 for the PS2 system and continue onto PS3 with some really great and amped up graphics but I'll take what I can get I guess, as long as it's fun and looks decent enough. I actually thought the game looked better in the in-game cut scenes than the gameplay but *shrug* maybe I have to see more of the game.Quote:

Hmm, haven't noticed it yet but I'll tell you if it's in once I replay it.Quote:

Sounds just like the tate kills in Shinobi (and presumably Nightshade, which I have never played).Quote:

Bosses in general are kind of weak, well nothing to get too excited over, cause once you are powered up, they get owned so quickly. Nothing to the level of the game you speak of, but still decent enough. Overall, I think Capcom produced another A title and at a 40 dollar price point, I think and hope it will sell well. This is Capcom's strength, so I'm at least happy that they are doing something solid these days if they are going to continue to ignore the fighting game genre.Quote:
