Picked this up the other day, the games pretty hot. Just got through stage 3 and the game has been easy so far, though it can take a little while to beat a boss. The last Onimusha I played was Genma Onimusha for Xbox so the series isn't overdone for me as it may be for some. Pretty cool RPG elements and the I've gotten used to the trigger lock-on view. I've heard rumblings that Capcom USA did their little "difficulty adjustment" from the JPN version a la Devil May Cry 3. Hope this isn't true.

A very good game but hard to justify spending full price now when Onimusha's all seem to hit the $19.99 price in a reasonably short period of time.

This game is hot.

Buyer beware, supposedly Capcom tinkered with this game big time in bringing it to the U.S. Significantly changed from the JPN version, so the early impressions of the import in this thread will not accurately reflect what you'll play if you buy the U.S. release.

This isn't a matter of them taking out difficulty modes from the Japanese version, no they actually changed the ENTIRE GAME for the very very very worse. Simply put Shin Onimusha JPN (with full english options) is a 9/10 game, Shin Onimusha US is a 6-7/10 game.

They didn't actually make the game "hard" they just made it tedious as fuck. They took bosses and instead of making them faster or tougher, they just gave them 10x the HP. They also lowered the strength of all your attacks making the issen a joke when it's a lethal awesome attack in the JPN one. So now bosses aren't any more difficult but they take 30 mins of repeating the same easy pattern instead of 5 mins.

You also get about 1/10th the amount of souls from enemies so you can't go around leveling up all these dozens of weapons and getting a diverse inventory of kickass tools and attacks. Considering that one of the selling points about the game was having 150+ weapons, they've basically just killed that in the US version.

So yeah, Capcom USA (or Capcom JPN. Whoever is orchestrating these changes) has done some really dumb dumb things in the past with their changes to make the US versions more "hardcore" often missing the difference between harder and "more annoying/stupid/tedious", but Shin Oni is the worst offender and just an absolute mess.

Isn't awesome that companys can actually make it so you get to play bad games that were good when the Japanese got to play them?



It's not difficulty modes. Read my post, they changed the entire game.

It's not as bad as the DMC3 difficutly "tweaking" Capcom USA did. In the U.S. Onimusha 4, at least you start off right where you died.

It's still a hot game and has been pretty easy thus far, though I'm only around Stage 5. Maybe I'm just inured by DMC3 or maybe the JPN version is ridiculously easy?

Heh, Well, I think somebody over at GAF said it first, but, I think I'll wait on the inevitable Genma Super Special Edition of this game to come out before I take the plunge.

well there wasn't one for Onimusha 2 & 3

anyone who played a lot of this game, is it really as tedious to get souls & level up weapons as it was said??

I actually wouldn't mind that if it extended the game some
