Don't remember if these ever got posted, but here ya go. Some production art from DR 1.
THE BOAT ONE!
I hate the fucking last (?) fight in this game.
i was never able to beat whats her bitch on the motorcycle, so i gave up on this game (i was saving everyone too)
I got the real mega buster before I tried actually playing the game. All the bosses die in, like, five hits. Challenge = overrated.
I didn't ever get very far in the storyline.
This game has too much of that "LOL you don't got HD" asshole tiny lettering that is impossible to read on a poor people television.
Then play it on your computer monitor like my poor ass did.
Only when they're awesome.
The tank was stressful, but i owned its ass. Didn't take a single hit. Mr. "hey lets do hand to hand fight but you can't block" fucked me up pretty bad. whats the secret?
Don't stop punching, and don't try any special moves on him. If you get knocked off, do the spinning clothesline move to clear out zombies and jump back on. It's really a matter of letting him miss you, or get him from the side or back, and just relentlessly punching.
Listen, guy, this game is two years old. Its not cutting into my lunch money on a weekly basis or anything.
If a game winds up in my possession its usually as a gift or borrow. You dont need to tell me that buying games is stupid when the money is scarce.
Guy doesn't post here. Your words fall on deaf ears.
Aww, damn. I was really hoping to hear from him, too.
But, I guess I had to settle for a response from you.
You bore me. I'm done here.
I miss this game, I played the hell out of it and traded it in thinking I wouldn't go back. I'll have to try and pick it up cheap.
I don't know about that, but I found the game to be way too stressful with all its constraints. From time limits at every turn (not to mention the game's overall time limit), to weapons breaking after a couple strikes, to permamiss scenarios galore. I know the game is set up to be played through multiple times with New Game+, but I don't necessarily want to do that.
I agree with Compass. Those constraints individually didn't bother me much but the fact that it piled on so many, and that the game wasn't the most intuitive to navigate, detracted from the enjoyment. I usually love Capcom action games but Dead Rising's overall design didn't click with me despite having some solid beat 'em up action.
As annoying as they were, I think the time constraints served a real purpose. Without them Dead Rising quickly became boring. Especially when I was farming achievements I became acutely aware of how quickly even something as awesome as killing a shitload of zombies can lose its zest. Giving me time limits, even the annoying as fuck escort missions, kept me on my toes and never once saying "God this is boring, when will this end" because I was always up against the clock.
i need to restart this game. I think this is gone after FFT on my pile-of-shame
i just remembered what pissed me off crazy about this game.
When the fuckers on the jeep with the turret came back AFTER i killed their bitch asses.
Angry = me.
So I guess whoever owns the rights to "Dawn of the Dead" these days has sued Capcom? WTF?
http://www.reuters.com/article/enter...ertainmentNews
yeah i just read that.
I thought "homage" was generally legally safe. Too close?
This game is pretty awesome though there is some bullshit that's annoying.
I'm at about 7'oclock PM in the second 24 hour period and basically there were 2 random survivors hanging from a doll with huge things of zombies around them, so I pretty much have 4 bottles of wine and that's it and just start kicking the crap out of em with jump kicks till they all die and eventually I get 2 queens and just blow up the rest.
So I've got those two with me, I run up and do the event with Jo (The huge female cop) which was awesome. Because I had those two people with me, while she was chasing me around the store she got caught on one of em, so I put all 60 handguns shots into her, which didn't take her past 50% health.
So I'm standing basically with an endless supply of handbags, and I think it's pretty obvious where this is going. I fill up my inventory with handbags, and just take her down the last 50% with like 100 handbags being thrown at her.
Anyways so then I have the like 4 other girls that were with her, so I have 6 fucking escort people, and am running back to the base (I probably should have tried saving, but I had no weapons) and of course of all the things, the hallway has a huge barrier of the cult fanatics. So I go to the hardware store and grab some shit to fight with, start fighting, and get pepper sprayed immediately. 6 fucking people with me, and they all get to die because I got hit by that gay ass bullshit.
That was fucking ridiculous :(.
Playing the game without the real mega buster is for gays.
re: ending - wtf screaming on top of a tank? is this really the ending? suck my ass.
Thief Silver, why aren't you fighting with mini chainsaws yet?
I have no idea where to get em. I haven't really had time to explore so much with all the life saving I have to do, though I'm finally at a point where the next part of the main quest isn't 1 hour (Game time) away and that I can actually travel a bit.
Actually I may have to go back and save all 6 of them again fuck I don't remember if I saved after that and then failed to get to the north plaza to meet up with Carlito.
You get them by beating Adam the Clown, who comes up fairly early in the game. Once you get them, well, it's an entirely different game. Better in most ways, but not all.
Ah, I couldn't beat him at the time, so I missed my chance for that. Considering I generally don't play games after I beat the story, I may go ahead and die for good and then start over. I think it wouldn't be a bad idea.
I actually did my second playthrough this weekend with the real mega buster and this is the first time I got the small chainsaws as well. I missed them first time around because I was too worried about missing a case (as I didn't really understand the time barriers.. at the time).
You should die and restart once. Will help drastically to carry over the 10-20 levels you have.
Small chainsaws + real mega buster + level 50 = even more fun the second time through. Making it a point to do all the mini-bosses I missed too which was also nice. Even better to blast off the heads of any escorts having pathing issues.
Just killed the cleric guy (Yay no more getting knocked out by fucking pepper spray) with a 2 by 4, that was fun. I'm level 26, debating if I want to restart or not I'm at the part where I gotta defuse the bombs. I know I missed a lot of bosses. Also I should probably start using my skills more as I've barely used any of em.
Also the minigun up on the rooftops is just way too fucking valuable, I'm not sure how else you could kill the psycopaths in the park (Why the fuck do they respawn though, that's retarded) without it.
It's actually I think an Uzi.
And being shot everytime you try and shoot makes that pretty hard, but whatever.
I thought you didn't play games anymore.
I need to play this again, I gave up too soon the first time around.
That's why I clarified that I definitely mis represented what I was saying.
I just though it was humorous you confused a gigantic vehicle-mounted weapon with a submachine gun in the first place. Carry on.
Yeah, the guy on the back of the truck fires a minigun, I got the Uzi. Simple brain fart.
If you're talking about the jeep that's a machine gun, not a minigun. The latter is specifically multi-barreled.
Elitism talk level rising!
so wait. theres a minigun mounted on the rooftop somewhere?
And I play awesome games. There aren't many of those.
The small chainsaw is so great. Swings fast, hits hard, and best of all, counts under three different categories for those durability books (bladed, hardware, entertainment), so once you've picked up two or three of them plus the appropriate books, you're pretty much set for the whole game.
This game has been sitting on my shelf for months, with very little play time. I'm afraid to try and play it because of how much shit is going on at once and all the stuff you can miss. This seems like a game that has to be played "right" or you miss a ton of shit. What's the best way to do multiple playthroughs? Should I do the cases first or just worry about leveling up? What about survivors?
I never bother with books, I should.
Also I restarted at level 27, because I know when I play through and finish it this time I'll probably never really wanna touch it again.
It's a great game, and Melf it can be annoying at times, especially because, you are going to lose people, escorts will die.
Just play the game and focus on the main quest during your first playthrough. Don't worry about the side quests, and don't worry about saving any of the survivors. Your character will level up as you are doing the main quests. You will eventually hit a point where you won't be able to go any further because your character will be underleveled. At that point, just start the game over from the beginning.....
I know that the very act of starting the game from the beginning again sounds retarded, but its actually one of the hilights of this game...believe it or not. You'll have lots of fun playing through the same segments again, because you will see how much of an ass kicker your character has become :) By having a higher level at the beginning of the game, you will be able to complete the main quests much quicker and you will eventually have lots of left over time to screw around, do the side quests, and save the survivors at your liesure.
I believe I started the game over 3 times, just for fun, before I completed the game the first time...and I enjoyed every minute of it. This is still one of my favorite 360 games.
Yeah I started over for my final time, I probably could have beaten the game, but I didn't want my interest to wane too much before hitting 50. I'm at 48 hours left at level 33. Just killed Cliff which had an awesome ending :(.
This game is pretty fucking fantastic.
If you want to save some time and avoid frustration then get a 360 memory unit so you can have a backup save in case you screw up, miss a boss, or lose too many escorts.
The right way to play Dead Rising is to worry about nothing, and take what you can get. It's meant to be played multiple times since it's impossible to get everything in your first run. There are some events that are different depending on if you're early, on time, or late. Just don't miss the killer clown, not for the saws, but for the secret passage. I didn't have that my first time, and it was a bitch to lead hostages without it.
Yeah I finally got that this time, escorting Ross and Tonya (I accidentally gave him a gun the first time XD, had it equipped and tried to talk to the woman and woops! In my previous game I let him shoot himself and took the picture of it)
Also was finally able to beat fucking cletus. Also didn't know about the Katana in paradise plaza that's help a bit. Unfortunately I messed up and the two japanese tourists got killed otherwise I'd probably be well on my way to getting the save all people achievement.
but since I didn't, and I didn't want to deal with Ronald's bullshit, I started the escort of Ronald, and capped him in the head with the sniper rifle. That was satisfying.
I have played much of this game and IIRC leveled to the mid-20s. I have not at any point ever tried to play through and beat it. One day.
lol I will finish this game this time. Especially since it takes a while to level now that I'm not level ass. Also I screwed up on the photo contest, I submitted one 10k point photo I assume I can actually select multiples and show them to him, if not then I just don't see how you can get that done.
Did the guy who made Dead Rising also make Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter? I only ask bc, Dragon Quarter had a similar gameplay mechanic where starting the game over (but keeping your same levels) was integral to completing it.
Anyway, reading this thread has inspired me to play Dead Rising. I bought it when it first came out, didn't play it, and I've been avoiding it all this time bc I was dreading the whole save system/restarting game system that it employs. Probably give it a shot after Condemned 2
Ok, well I finally beat this, A ending and Overtime mode.
So I get to the part where the humans are there, ok 12 hours of no real objective? What a cop out, Luckilly I kept myself busy going for the achievements like, shoot 150 bullets without missing, kill 10 guys, 1000 bare handed kills etc etc. But still kind of stupid.
Then you get the A ending, which itself was lack luster and made me go "That sucks" (I thought overtime mode was just a special mode like infinity mode). Overtime mode starts and it's fantastic, the whole thing is leading up to pure awesome and I can't wait to see what happens. Going through the zombie infested cave was awesome.
Then you get the last boss battle, which honestly isn't that bad, the tank has a little bit too much HP making the fight drag on a little after all the patterns are being used but it still wasn't bad. And the melee fight with Brock, pretty cool actually, though I was panicked because dieing then and having to redo the entire sequence would suck so much.
And then.. the ending. What, the fuck. That's it? Frank Screams and presumably turns into a zombie (While having the consciousness to spread the story) And I guess eats Isabella. What a fucking piece of shit. And of course they only did the update stuff with text, so the ending is just Isabella trapped by Zombies and Frank screaming. Jesus christ way to drop what I would say is one of the best games I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying to leave a bad taste in the mouth after it's complete.
I am slightly exaggerating with "one of the best games ever"
Considering this is a Capcom game, I cant believe there hasnt been any info on a sequel.
There has, it's a cellphone game.
By only announcing when games aren't getting sequels, Capcom was able to reduce its PR staff down to a single guy. And that guy pretty much just chills.
It was such a fucking vague ending, and as far as I've read there is only one ending to overtime mode if you beat it.

wii footage. Apparently there were 10 zombies on screen at a time in this version, and their "hoping to get 100 by its release."
The only thing i think the wii version will be better at is controls, because its running on and is keeping the same control scheme of RE4 Wii.
The lack of photo mode, the lack of tension between time constraints and decision making kinda take away from what dead rising was, at least from what i saw. It was about making decisions, it was about acting quickly, it was about trial and error. It seems to be going the FFIV Easy-Type route.
Is that annoying guy still buzzing you on the walkie talkie every two seconds with bullshit errands?
That looks fucking sad.
Frank beats the crazy soldier guy and lets out a giant scream. That's it.
When does he turn into a zombie and eat Isabella? You're retarded.
It's completely implied that he turns into a zombie and that he becomes the leader of them. Subduing them but hungering for flesh in the passing time.
lol leader of the zombies. Where did you get that from?
I made it up completely.
I picked this up for $5 at Kmart a few days ago, just about every time I play I get a "disc unreadable" error. Also, every door to the save location seems to require a "tunnel maintenance key" that I can't find. Tons of fun, but extremely frustrating at the same time.
It is in the storage room in the center of the tunnel map. Enter via the parking lot connected to the park center.
For god's sake, install the game to the HDD.
noob alert!
ProTip: Press 'Up' on the Joypad to move forwards.
Press start at the title screen to warp to zone 1!
hax
For best experience, eject disc from system and load Left 4 Dead instead.
As if these games offer anywhere near the same experience.
That's the point. Left 4 Dead offers a better experience than Dead Rising, and I know because I've played neither.
ok, I played Dead Rising for an hour. Didn't care for it.
Its good. You're just dumb.
It's awesome. I ran over half a store of zombies with a lawn mower. Then used a hole driller to kill the rest. It was amazing. I've noticed, though, that people who play games timidly and methodically don't tend to do that well in Dead Rising. They try to get cute and steer clear of danger at all costs, and end up getting completely fucked when they're over run. People who are reckless and keep their head down when moving forward tend to own the game way more.
Reminds me of Megaman. The guys who are more impulsive and reckless in Megaman tend to do the best. Guys who plan out every attack and try to be precise aren't as successful.
In case you haven't answered your own question in the last eight months, the two games were developed by the same team.
Once I stopped looking at DR as a slow, kind of sloppy, stressful action game and started looking at it as a fucked up, violent, on-foot version of Crazy Taxi, I started having a lot of fun with it. You just have to be in the right mindset.
I get the same "Disc is dirty or damaged" error both in-game and when trying to install it to the HDD, unfortunately. It gets to 8% installed and crashes every time.
I've been playing this obsessively for about a week now. Why is this game so awesome?
It's so far, still one of the best experiences I've had with the 360, the game was just so solid.
The stuff removed from the Wii version:
• There are no time limits.
• Players are not restricted to a single save file.
• Main character Frank West can only carry one melee weapon at a time.
• There is more emphasis on firearms and collecting ammo.
Removing Jumping? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I hate it when games take away my ability to wander around jumping continousl, it annoys the hell out of me when I can't jump in a game.
And yes, I'm quite serious.
Jumping is pretty important to the game to get to where the zombies can't easily reach you. Removing it and limiting you to one melee weapon seemed retarded... like Sega level retarded.
Not surprised that they removed the time limits. I mean, it's only THE ENTIRE GAME. No big deal.
Casual Gamers.
Another feature is that you can't actually die.
