It's more fun not to. That way anyone that reads the story can relate easier, and put themselves into the situation without pre-conceived gender-roles/issues/stereotypes/etc.

Hmm, naw. I always refer to myself as a he, but everyone else, to be honest, it just happens that I use "they" and "them" and all that. I sometimes never specify gender even when I am talking about friends and such. Dunno why. I guess just like I said earlier, I probably like to get people to try to relate to stories better? I dunno.
