One year ago, Ecole released
an arcade version of Melty Blood: Re-Act for the NAOMI platform, co-developed with the original creators, Type-Moon. Rumors of a port for PS2 started soon after, due to the company's comments on a console version, but it hasn't been until today, almost one year later, that it has been officially announced via Famitsu Magazine. No DC this time, you see. Thanks to
Game Boku Tenin no Tawagoto.
This is somewhat of a landmark for doujinshi software, being the first game to from the doujin scene to a full-blown commercial release, including an appearance at this year's Super Battle Opera, Japan's biggest fighting game tournament series. The game itself is considered to be rather mediocre in hardcore circles, but the Japanese have taken to it. I have no idea why. Might be due to the fact that it is being played at SBO. Maybe the the game really nails some perverse wish fufillment with the otaku crowd. There is a character for every fetish: the buxom foreginer, the battle maiden, the maid (both the quiet submissive and happy-go-moe-moe type), the gothic lolita, the innocent schoolgirl, the prissy rich bitch, the crazy loli, the robot, etc.. There are a couple of male characters, but no one actually plays them. Or it could be that it's based off of one of the most popular 'visual novels' (read: h-game with mountainloads of text) ever made is anyone's guess. Regardles, it is popular enough to get a PS2 release and a second arcade release.
The game is 60% ported over and is expected to be finished and released sometime during the late spring. A US release seems unlikely; the game's story mode (which has a script longer than some RPGs and is actually somewhat interesting) and general happy fun-fun approval woes with SCEA would seem to be the most likely sticking points. Maybe Atlus or Mastiff could put it out for a jackson and gain some more f*****-chan cred; who knows.
If vampires and schoolgirls and vampire schoolgirls duking it out GGXX-style isn't hardcore enough for you, there is always the UFC-modeled game based off of Kakutou Bijin Wulong. What the hell is next, a game based off of Battle Vixens?
