BG&E came out after Wind Waker.

ARBM is correct.

Well they both came out the same year in any event, so the comparisons were obvious. I didn't mean to imply that one borrowed from the other, but rather that they both attempted a lot of the same things at around the same time and BG&E did them better.

BGE also had those terrible stealth parts that made OOT's castle sneak look like Splinter Cell.

I don't know if it's fair to call BG&E a Zelda knock off. It's just a game in the same genre. It probably has some influence from Zelda but it also resembles Twinsen and other European action-adventures.

It felt more like an extremely ambitious game that was limited to a very small and empty city and a tiny world map by budget and time constraints.

I couldn't get into BG&E. Tried a few times. I think 3D Zelda games just aren't for me.

I think the gameplay was more Zelda and the atmosphere was more Twinsen. There's definitely a lot of overlap and kinship between the Twinsen and BG&E fan communities, though.

Reminds me, Twinsen just came out on iOS and Android. Time to replay.

True. I just think there has been a tendency in the past 10-15 years to label anything resembling Zelda (or Metroid) a clone or knock off. That didn't happen as often before with those types of games.

I remember first person shooters were called Doom clones until like 1997.
