Tragic

Up to $5 for a game seems fair to me and I could actually see myself paying that much for some of my old favorites that I no longer have.

I think you're right. I overlooked that.

however between the Megadrive, Genesis, PC-Engine, TurboGrafx-16
(not even counting the NEC and SEGA CD formats) there are well over 1,000 games

I totally disagree. There are millions and millions of people who used to play Nintendo (and Sega) but don't play newer games.
