It's hard to believe that there are people who still think that the u.s is rich because it 'does things right.'
Every wealthy nation in this world is that way because of resources and imperialism.
No amount of marching or protesting is going to give mexico more arable land, fossil fuels, or minerals.
And to suggest these people are lazy is just silly.
If you read what Avatar has been saying all along he's been kinda in support of the protesters. I think what he said was as a joke.
Then they should start a revolution. The vast majority of people do not like mexico's current government and revolting against that corrupt regime wouldn't be frowned upon by many.Quote:

Of course how things are managed makes a difference, but the wealth and resources that a nation already has is the most important factor in determining where it will be in the future.
There are plenty of countries that have next to nothing going for them aside from natural resources, and yet they're some of the richest nations on earth.
Mexico only has two things in its favor, cheap labor and cheap tourism, and both of those things would disappear if they had a standard of living approaching that of the u.s.

What you said was wrong - resources and imperialism are not the sole means to wealth, by any means. Of course Mexico cant do what Japan and Taiwan did wholesale, but much can be done to improve it. Will it? Probably not anytime soon.
Mexico has plenty of natural resources, especially oil. But, due to dirty American global economic policies during the late 70s and earily 80s, they ended up in a horrid recession and downright economic collapse.
Politically, it doesn't help that Mexico has been essentially a one-party government since the 20s.
Do you hanestly think that Japan and Taiwan did all that themselves, though?
The countries that have the wealth and experience to aid Mexico in building infrastructure and secondary industries have a vested interest in keeping the developing world poor.
