I picked that game up at Borders a couple months ago but I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet. The 3-player requirement and license has made it difficult to get a game going.Quote:

Alright, so upon the advice of this thread, Gamers With Jobs, and well, pretty much the entire hobby-game-o-sphere, I snapped up the last copy of Space Hulk in town. $100 out the door, but worth every penny. I'm just glad I didn't wait, end up playing some stranger's copy at PAX or something down the line, realize I needed it, and have to pay eBay scalper prices. Anybody who likes board games at all... if you somehow have the opportunity to get this thing at MSRP at this late date, DO NOT HESITATE. Think a board game can't give you an adrenalin high? You haven't played Space Hulk.
Also picked up Last Night On Earth, and it was pretty cool too. Just not Space Hulk cool. It's sort of an RPG-lite boardgame in the tradition of Hero Quest, only instead of elves and barbarians looting a dungeon, it's about small town hicks surviving the zombie apocalypse. (Or not.) One player directs the zombies, up to four control the heroes, and there are five scenarios with different objectives and special rules (for example, the beginner scenario simply requires the heroes to kill 15 zombies within 15 turns, while others require bombing their spawning pits or rescuing townsfolk). Each hero has a special ability - the sheriff starts with a gun and can replace spent ammo out of the discard pile when he searches a building, whereas the high school football star can move into a zombie's square, melee it, and then keep moving.
A common thread between these two games is they seem really well-balanced - I've played each twice, and every time it came down to the wire, with the heroes in LNOE scraping out a win in the last turn before sundown hands victory to the zombies, or the marines in Space Hulk getting whittled down to their last man, mere steps from the mission objective, but with the alien horde at his back and victory or death resting on one roll of the dice.
Anyone played the song of fire and ice board game? I've been dying to try it but i can't justify it with my current limited time and friend pool.
The Gas is right! Space Hulk is pretty incredible! While I'm glad that a buddy of mine took the $100 bullet for me, I know in a few years I'm gonna be kicking myself for not buying it if there's no reprinting of this edition. A reprint would seem like a no-brainer but Games Workshop is totally insane. Hard to tell what'll happen!

As for me, I'm a communications/hyper-drive tech specialist that just got a job working for Tibor's Fix-it Shop, a Twi'lek guy that runs a place like what's-his-name's from Tat in Ep I. Tibor hates me and beats me b/c I keep programming the droids to go and pull on his Twi'lek ear-thingies. Anyways, Tibor's out one day doing something super-secret for the Hutts up on the bridge (comm related?) and I decide to steal some datapads so's I can sell them on the black market and get some cashola so I can eat and sleep somewhere nicer than the hold. Tibor's up to something b/c I've seen powerpacks come through the shop...a strict no-no on a slaver....
The best part of all this is that the GM is totally taking a hands-off approach. Basically, he sets up the world, then we play in the sandbox. Very much like a GTA-style world. He takes some TCs (like when I stole from that accursed Tibor!), but otherwise it's us writing the story.
Maybe we'll stumble across the main narrative, maybe I'll just make shit and torment Tibor!a
