In response to the other thread, I felt like this would also be interesting- I know there were many games I passed on based on GF giving them the axe. So here's my contribution:
Mars Matrix- didn't get much love from Gamefan, but was the best shooter of the past gen, imo.
I couldn't agree with you more here. Mars Matrix is simultaneously the UGLIEST and best shooter of the passed generation. Hell, I would go as far to say that it is my favorite shooter of all time...well actually, its probably tied with Zero Gunner 2. I never understood why such an average game like Ikaruga received so much hype when Mars Matrix was a far superior game.Quote:

I do remember ECM saying that MM was far better and more difficult than Giga Wing so I don't think the whole review was bad.

Can't really think of anything right now. I just remembered being really confused as to why Earthworm Jim on the genny got higher scores than the SNES version.
Because it was the better version and it had an extra level that wasn't in the SNES rev. If I remember correctly at the time Nintendo was charging more for their rom than Sega so Shiny didn't buy as much for the SNES version.

I don't remember the MM review as being bad. I bought the game, and my only source of shooter info at the time was Gamefan.
