Got it from Slashdot. Very interesting. I mean, the companies that want truckloads of money have to listen or not have the exposure, but it's very sad that it has to happen this way.

That seems like a bunch of speculation passed off as fact. I'm sure companies want their stuff sold at Wal-Mart, but they could just make alternate covers for Wal-Mart is they object. WWE did that for some risque DVD covers, and there's nothing stopping game companies from doing the same.
Er, the article explains they actually have a say in the game's content, not just the cover.
Jeremy is right.
Regarding the "Wal-mart says no nudity so there's no nudity", well I didnt see nudity in games before Wal-Mart, but God of War has it (though the lack of Minotaur penis makes me a sad panda). Leisure Suit Larry and Guy Game also came out for consoles, hmm. Nintendo was a far more effective nanny than Wal-Mart, I guess.
I give Wal-Mart a million thanks for helping rid of the world of the cursed huge PC game boxes. The games can finally look good on my shelf next to my console games!
Im also calling BS on this:
Until they provide some examples of games killed because of Wal-Mart rather than internal reasons.Quote:
Publisher sales reps inform Wal-Mart buyers of games in development; the games' subjects, titles, artwork and packaging are vetted and sometimes vetoed by Wal-Mart. If Wal-Mart tells a top-end publisher it won't carry a certain game, the publisher kills that game. In short, every triple-A game sold at retail in North America is managed start to finish, top to bottom, with the publisher's gaze fixed squarely on Wal-Mart, and no other.
I think Wal Mart should exclusively sell EA games, and EA games should be exclusively sold at Wal Mart. Birds of a feather and all that. Besides, that would make my boycotting easier.
Jeremy and diffusionx said it all -- there's no real substantiation here because no facts or names are dropped. Wal Mart is more good than bad, because believe it or not the Mom and Pop shops of old are more likely to rip you off at the register than any box store is.
We also don't get sales figures out of Wal Mart at all in general, so forget you read this article and continue going about your day.
How myopic. If you ignore the fact that Wal Mart forced a lot of manufacturing to leave the US, then they look rosey, but their "contribution" to the overall fiscal health of the US is negative. "People with decent jobs don't shop here, so if we force their decent jobs to evaporate, we'll get more white trash business." Nice fucking business strategy.Quote:
