What is this? like Bouncer 2 or something?
Yeah.
Tomba! was fun. Just thought I'd mention that.
Tomba! was awesome. Tomba! 2... ehh.
My sentiments exactly. The 3D towns in Tomba! 2 were blech ugly. Still a good game though.
I'm sold on this game.
You all have to go the Capcom site and watch the E3 video. It's a damn riot.
...it even quotes Mike Tyson.
It looks ball bustingly hard.. but fair.
2001 is over.Quote:

Looks like Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star on crack...can't wait.
At E3, the combat was great, the camera not so great, and the enviroments stolen from a PS1 game. The attacks chain nicely, and there's a real sense of impact to them that made it fun.
Looks pretty nuts. I thought it was just another generic brawler.
I liked it at E3 too. I didn't really mind the camera, and the graphics were... yeah. But the gameplay felt solid and I'm looking forward to playing it. Plus it's listed at $30, which is a price I'm happy to pay. :)

Agreed. I'm talking about 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.Quote:

Downloading the videos now. Looks pretty meh technically, but it looks interesting and it's from Clover so I'm not writing it off.Quote:

Looks like another game I should pick up once I re-buy a PS2.

Okay. Wow. This game is out there.
It's like Fist of the North Star and the internet famous version of Cho Aniki had a kid on the PS1. This game is seriously ugly-as-sin, this would not have been accepted a PS2 launch title, what the hell it's doing in 2006 is beyond me. It's not even a stylistic decision, it's just plain terrible.
But it counters that with homosexuality. Tons of it. The first stage starts off with the main character, Jin, telling the woman he's with how the burly guys in front of them are sexier then she is. Twice. The boss of the third stage are two men dressed in nothing but thongs and brightly colored feathers and their primary attacks consist of thrusting their crotches into each other and trying to punch Jin in the balls.
But the combat is really good. You get a huge list of attacks which grows as you purchase and unlock moves, and you pick from those to customize your combos and what each button does. There is no block, only dodge, and knocking enemies into certain positions (on the ground, doubled-over, etc.) triggers button-mashing special moves where Jin goes absolutely nuts on his target.
I'm still not sure if this is god-awful or genius. Probably a little bit of both.
I should get mine on Friday. Sounds like GOTY to me.
Famitsu shit ont his. Like, 6's if I remember correctly.
Fake Edit: Yeah, I guess a 6 isn't really "shitting" on it, but it's disappointingly lower than I expected.
It's not that bad. I've got a copy of Evergrace right here you can compare it to if you want.
Worried about US edits, I checked out a copy just to see what it's like. Day one purchase, no question. I only played a bit of the first level so didn't get the Hard Gay vibe you found, but the fighting action is really good.

That boss fight was particularly awesome because every two seconds Elvis kept saying, "No hablo ingles." Mind you, he'd been speaking English just fine before the fight started.
I'm really starting to lean more towards "genius."
Here's a youtube link of God Hand footage some one posted on NG

Personally, it looks like the perfect RENTAL. I can't see myself enjoying that for more than an hour or two at the most. Wicked DDT though...
Either the guy playing is really good or it's the easiest game ever made. Do the enemies ever actually attack you?
Thanks for the hands-on and command list, NCSX-

I put a couple of hours into this game. First impression, it's fucking awesome. I just wish the in-game text was in english. The graphics aren't that bad. I was expecting them to be horrendous though, so maybe that helps.
Are you guys playing the import, or is it out here already?
It comes out here October 10th.
If you don't think this looks great, you're a communist.
I'm sold!
How could you NOT be?

God Hand $26.99 shipped through Amazon, and supports TNL. Get it.
Hell no.
LOL, that's an awesome videogame commerical... GODO!
SF2 homage bonus stage[/COLOR] link
Those wacky japs
I will buy it based on that commerical alone.
God Hand rocks out with its cock out:
Wow. Just wow.
That looks like it might be the dumbest game ever made. EVER.
re-re-re- represent.
Jesus christ. Day one off of the JP ad alone.
Wow, dichotomy!

IGN 3.0

Gamespot- 8.0
From the little I've played, I'm more on the Gamespot side of things. I haven't really played enough to rate it, but what I've see I've liked.
James
Kasavin gives it an 8 while Roper gives it a 3? That's a switch. Also LAWL at Mark Ryan being the only one at IGN who actually PLAYED the game instead of just looking at the game.
Why is God Hand 29.99 in the US, but nearly 7000 yen in Japan?
This shit makes me sad.
Because Japan got screwed, near as I can tell. It's a good game, but not a full-priced one. The visuals are just too low-budget to command more than $30.
So how'd it do in Japan, anyway? Anyone care at all, or was it another Okami?
James
I'll wait for the Play review, or for Penny Arcade to talk about it.
It's an old-school brawler with an anime flair and the main character has a spank move for barely dressed top-heavy dominatrixes. Do you really think any force on earth will make Dave Halverson give this less than a 4?
James
PLAY!?
I'm waiting for it to come to stores around here, so I can get it. I went around yesterday and couldn't find it anywhere. The game looks too hilarous in a kung pow/benny hill/slapstick kinda way not to enjoy.
Amazon's shipping mine out on Friday, supposedly. Frankly I don't have time for it this week anyways.
Well the God damn EB here told me they had it in. So I drive the 20+ mins there and they told me they sold out. Apparently they only got 1 copy. I know its been a long time since I bought a game in stores, but WTF? When did they quit stocking new games and not having stuff on release day?
Oh well, I'll go make angry nintendo music with my time, now that I'm in that mood.
Japan really needs to let the glam obsession go...
Just picked this up. Apparently my EB got 5 copies in. Report to follow...
So is this game great (8) or absolute asswater (3)? I've never seen the two big internet sites this far apart, especially in this direction (IGN lower than GS).
It's somewhere in-between.
I dunno which test to use here. On one hand, I could use the "subtract 2 pts from MR's opinion of a game targeted at the Japanese audience"...on the other I can use the "use the opposite of MR's opinion". In test 1, it's asswater...in test 2, it's the opposite of average, which is still average.
Since it isn't on a current-gen platform though, screw it.
jk, mr
Well, after reading here and a few other places that it's pretty average, I guess I'll cancel my preorder and put more time into Splinter Cell. I was really hoping this would be great. Maybe somewhere down the line for $15. :|
I watched the video review on gametrailers, and I think the game looks pretty awesome. It's supposed to be difficult as well.
The game is kinda fun but just screams budget title. The visuals are worse then most 1st gen PS2 game.
One of the special moves is a kick to the nuts so there is something to like wrapped up in that mess of a game.
It's hard... but fair.
Speaking as a person who knows what Ridge Racer and Battle Arena Toshinden look like, no. I mean, I'll grant that the visuals are barely better than Evergrace, but that's about it. The character animation is very well done, though, and the framerate is solid and quick.
James
-edit- Why yes, my reading comprehension does suck today. Why do you ask?
James... read what he said one more time, a little closer.
NO DON'T DO IT
Damn it! I got "1st gen PS1 game" each time I read it, once on initial viewing and again when quoting. That's it, time for new eyeballs.
Sorry Morphix, going blind over here.
James
The game's starting to grow on me. Played through the first two stages, and knowing how to properly fight makes it easier and more fun.
I just picked this game up today, and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. Don't trust that IGN review, because this game is the real deal! I highly recommend this game to anybody who is a fan of the "old school" beat em ups like Final Fight and Double Dragon.
The fighting system in this game is actually very deep, intuitive, and a hell of a lot of fun. I have actually simultaneously laughed out loud and yelled obscenities at the screen while beating the crap out of people in this game. No other game has actually inspired this level of excitement from me, just based on the actual FUN FACTOR of its GAME PLAY, in a very long time. Other recent brawlers, such as Zombie Revenge, FF: Streetwise, and Dynamite Cop, have attempted to replicate the feel of 80's arcade beat em ups...but they all fell a bit short. God Hand somehow manages to hit the target dead on and then some!
Obviously though, this game wont be for everybody. Kids that were introduced to games during the Playstation Generation may not understand the frantic arcade nature of the gameplay, and they may be left wanting the cinematic experience that most PS2 games provide. However, anybody who misses classic beat em up gameplay should love this game. Don't hesitate to pick this game up, because its definitely worth the $29.99 price tag!
I also just wanted to add that the thing that sickened me most about the IGN review is the fact that the critic basically said that nobody would like this game if it were made by somebody other than Capcom and Clover Studios. I think that has to be the stupidest assumption I have heard in a long while. I didn't even know this game existed until I read the Gamestop review yesterday, and I could care less if Capcom or somebody else made the game. I have played plenty of Capcom games that I ended up hating.
I caught that and it pissed me off too. By that logic I'll be pissing all over The Red Star when it comes out next week. Thank god I had IGN around to tell me how much I'll hate that game because it was an Acclaim title, and not Clover. I was almost confused into liking both Red Star and God Hand because they're good games, rather than the name of the production studio behind them.Quote:

James
This game is actually pretty damn cool, and I had low expectations.
:tu:
Also, this is neat:
I just beat God Hand right now, and I must admit that this is the most excited I have been about completing a game since I actually beat Breakdown on the Xbox :) It was definitely a difficult game (I died 186 times!), and I am actually surprised I was able to beat this game since it does seem to become insanely cheap at the end (10 of the strongest enemies surrounding you with baseball bats, sledge hammers etc)......and oddly enough the game always manages to be fair if you actually have the skills to play the game correctly.
Seriously, this game just gets so many things right that its ridiculous. Every time I thought this game couldn't get more bizarre...it actually manages to top itself: fighting midget power rangers, fighting giant gorillas, and spanking chicks in the ass are some of the more common things to do in this game .
Of course I don't just like this game because its bizarre and laugh out loud funny, but the fighting system is superb! I thought it was awkward at first to have the camera so close up to the character, and it does create problems with enemies getting some cheap hits in from behind, but it actually works to put the player in the role of the character. By the end of this game I actually felt like I was the one single handedly kicking the crap out of a room full of enemies! I don't think I have ever felt this level of satisfaction from beating a pure and simple "beat em up" game.
Overall, I think Clover Studios should not be ashamed that God Hand was their final game because I think its their BEST GAME. Seriously, I had more fun playing God Hand than I ever had playing Viewtiful Joe or Okami...and God Hand is my favorite game of the year so far. Its just sad that we'll never see a sequel to this vastly entertaining game.
The game is fun--I just beat it on Normal--I just wish you could start a new game with all the techniques/abilities that you learned from the previous clear. Hard mode is a bitch.
I just now finished it myself.
Did three TNLers seriously beat the same game in the same half hour?
It's right up there with RE4, at the very least. Fantastic.Quote:
I think its their BEST GAME.
Yeah, that would have been cool if they let you start over with the techniques and abilites that you already learned. I am going to try playing this game on Hard mode in a little bit. I'm not sure how far I will get in hard mode though because I already thought a couple of the levels in this game were hard enough on normal :) I rarely replay games that I have finished too, but I am just too addicted to this game to stop playing it.
I really enjoyed the music that was played during the ending credits too. I need to find out if they have a sound track for sale, because I would love to have that closing song on CD.
haha..thats weird that we all finished this game around the same time. I agree that God Hand is right up there with RE4 as well. I had absolutely no expectations for this game and now it holds a spot as one of my all time favorites.
Just out of curiosity though, what boss gave everyone the most trouble? For some odd reason I had the most trouble with that "Master Sensei" boss in Level 7. I'm not sure why he was so difficult for me, but he ended up kicking my ass quite a few times. One time I almost beat him, but my character got to Level 2 and the boss multiplied into three people instead of two and he killed me! Luckily I am one of those people that burst into insane laughter instead of hurling the controller :) Did anybody else have trouble with that guy?
He took me two tries, nothing out of the ordinary. I had the most trouble with the stage 3 boss, simply because I didn't realize the "power up" section of the store actually powered you up; food items tend to refill health, you know?
Also, there were some tense chihuahua races up in here.
OK, thats what I was figuring then, because it didn't seem like that boss was any harder than the other ones. It must have been difficult because I had already played the game for a couple hours at that point. It was one of those situations though, where I sat the controller down, I ate dinner, and I beat the boss on the first try the next time.
And I can see how that power up section in the shop may have been confusing. I almost passed up on those items too thinking that I pick up the food items for free :)
