Wrestling sucks. I hate it.
But I'll never stop watching, ever.
Wrestling Observer Live is going into WWE's praise of the latest ECW rating, saying that internally, they're very happy since they still beat TNA despite being on the worst possible date for wrestling programming. Dave talks about how they'll never mention this publicly, just like in the '80s where they never publicly talked about beating their wrestling competition. A caller talks about the live fans preferring to look at the tron to see themselves instead of looking at the ring to appreciate the workers. Dave then talks about the difference between WCW and now with guys like Eddie and Chavo would be given a death spot on the show and still have the crowd popping, whereas now the crowd just won't give them a chance. Dave says that part of that might be due to guys not selling attacks or losses the next week. "If they don't care, then why should I?".
A caller asks about the use of "Final Countdown" in wrestling - Dave talks about seeing a music video of the Chicago Steamboat-Flair match set to it, and being amazed by it. Then the caller talks about Bryan Danielson obviously digging the song because he uses it for his theme. A new caller asks about Trish, and Dave says that no one (not even Trish) is sure if she'll retire. All that's known so far is that she plans to take a break after getting married. Dave says that the internal idea is that she's getting married and then leaving wrestling. Dave says that TNA would die to have her, and that it would be good for her since she'd have time to work on acting projects, just like Christian.
Dave thinks that WWE might keep her around to let her work on WWE Films. The caller asks if she's had a lot of injuries, and Dave says she has had a lot of them recently, and that she has other goals in life. Dave says that if she wants to do TV, movie, or variety show stuff, now is the time to do it, since she isn't getting any younger, and showbiz folks want the hot young things for projects. Dave feels that since WWE is planning on her being gone, it's a sign that contract negotiations aren't going well, but that he can't be 100% sure.
A caller asks about the Hogan-Orton thing, and Dave says it's another sign of Hulk's brilliance. The theory is that Brooke is going to get major exposure, and that it'll make her album sell because she'll have name recognition to buyers. Dave says that no one in music buys into the theory, and Dave feels that it's probably being done to give himself the major-league storyline of the summer. Again. The caller asks how on Earth this helps Orton, and Dave says that jobbing to Hogan won't kill Orton. It didn't kill HBK last year, and Orton can benefit greatly if the show gets a big buyrate because it shows that he's been in a big-buyrate match - it's a big test for Orton, and Dave says it could be a career-maker for Orton if he hangs with Hogan on promos.
The caller then asks why TNA hasn't learned a thing from The Death of WCW book, and says that he reads it every three months, which Bryan is flattered by. Bryan feels that there are some people there who think that it was a problem with the management and not so much the wrestlers, he feels that they saw some issues with the workers, which is why Luger and Buff only got brought up for a short-term angle.
Dave feels that TNA is a slave to name recognition, and that guys who were a part of something big even though it was eons ago are seemingly worth more to the company than new guys, who haven't been a part of a big boom period, and therefore aren't known names to casual fans. Dave then brings up Rey getting overlooked in this way, because he's viewed as being too small to be a draw.
Another caller asks how things would have changed had Russo and Ferrera hadn't gone to WCW. Dave says that the period with Nash as the booker was probably their worst point ever. He thinks that had Russo stayed in the WWF, he would have eventually had a falling out with Steph. The caller then brings up the popularity of non-wrestling stuff for the WWF, with it getting the highest quarter hour ever with Foley-Rock. Dave corrects this, saying that Taker-Austin got a 9.1, and that overexposure got the best of the company due to SmackDown. Dave says that 2001 as a terrible year for the WWF in some ways, since they overexposed a ton of guys, alienated much of the fanbase, and Vince, J.R., and others were burnt out due to the XFL.
Dave brings up the death of Chris Cheske (something like that), because he was a fantastic writer for the company, and that he was great even though he was more of a baseball fan than a wrestling fan - yet he was still able to create great characters. The caller says that he doesn't think that Russo put them out of business, and Dave says that everyone abusing the company caused it to go out of business. Dave feels that Kevin Sullivan and the other bookers had their chances to turn the company around, and still failed.
Another caller asks about the Sabu-RVD thing, and Dave says that Sabu wasn't punished as much because he was more apologetic, and that the drugs were believed to be RVD's and not Sabu's. A caller asks about Angle at the end of the show, and Dave feels he's just going to have to retire. He doesn't want to see Kurt in a wheelchair.
I'm surprised there's been no mention of all the boobs that were on last week.
I'm sorry if i came off as attacking you. It was more of a dig at the anti-WWE part of the IWC than at you.Quote:

Yeah, it was Devito.
I didn't see any boobs.
Devito was an ECW alumnus as well as part of the Baldies, and a job guy before that. It's hard to remember all the boobs on WWE given just how gay Raw has been since DX came back.
Man...can Mick Foley cut a promo or what.
