Oh, man. I gotta see that.
I missed HS today, and won't see it tomorrow due to an eye exam, hopefully, I can catch it, and maybe tape it, on Wednesday through Friday. Also, Raw was pretty good tonight. The Jericho-Henry match was better than I thought, and Henry having his hair torn out hurt to watch. RVD-RKO was great as well. Solid story being told throughout it, with some nice basic wrestling thrown in, along with some great stuff from Orton that made him look like a million bucks.
It looked like they ended the match with a DDT from the turnbuckle? Was it an RKO? I thought it was dumb that they ended such a good match with a DDT, even if it was from the top rope. But if he managed to do an RKO and I just didn't see it, then that's awesome.
It was a brutal looking DDT with RVD suspended off the top rope. Also, Goldberg looked like Duggan with that beard. I loved the new Orton piece tonight. The titles being emphasized is such a good move for the company.
Stupid. It was sick looking but he should've just turned it into an RKO. A long match like that ending from a DDT sounds so wrong... even under those conditions.
I thought the DDT looked totally brutal and was a good finisher.
(This post brought to you by the friends of Randy Orton)
It was and it wasn't...
I guess it being done before softened the appeal.
It was and it was!
RVD sells ddts like nobodies business.
Poor RVD.
The WWE Originals CD was at Best Buy today for $10. Of course, I didn't buy it. :yuck:
C'mon... SOMEONE has to buy the Originals cd and tell us how bad it is.
The only song worth anything on the CD is probably John Cena's enterance theme, but I wouldn't waste $10 for it. Instead, I far more wisely spent $17 on the Freddy Vs. Jason DVD.
If I'd have known it was $10, I would have snatched it up at BB today. It does come with a DVD of the recordings of some of the songs after all.
i'll buy it if someone gives me the $10.
just a little tidbit.
What's the problem here, pirate broadcasting??Quote:
WWE was in Federal Court here in Canada to get an injunction that prohibits all bars from airing Pay-Per Views.
Nothing is making sense here. :wtf:
The WWE doesn't like bars broadcasting pay-per-views because it cuts into their profits pretty severely. Also they have a deal with Famous Players theatres here in Canada to show PPVs and I assume it's an exclusive type thing. They have been enforcing it pretty hard for the last 2 or 3 years. Bars have been given some stiff fines, yet some bars and restaurants keep doing it simply because WWE PPVs make them so much money.
Edit: Oh yeah, bars are supposed to pay much larger fees than normal and some don't feel like paying. So yeah, it's kinda like pirating.
I guess vince has a thing about people paying in groups.
Well I'm hoping he gets nowhere with this. People have good times watching PPVs in parties rather then being alone and if Vince is trying to push some silly little dream of his over having 1 PPV per person, that's never gonna happen.
I taped the HS ep with Savage on it yesterday, and watched and taped today's one. Ricky Steamboat got a mention in the bonus round, with the guy answering it wrong, saying that Randy didn't face him at WM III.
D'oh! :bang:
Also, Savage looked jacked, and had his regular, jet black, non-caveman beard.
I had a weird dream that Randy Savage was chillin in the hatch of an old ass car I was driving... he was drunk and half conscious. That was fucked up.
Heh, that gave me an idea... I nabbed Cena's music off of itunes for 99 cents. Fuck the rest of the cd, I'll get it from half.com in a few months for 97 cents like Forceable Entry.Quote:

I have yet to find Cena's piece on the Confidential DVD. Savage was great on HS today, getting in a Slim Jim mention.
I caught HS last night. Randy was posing during the end credits...it was weird.
BTW, here's Randy and I when I met him in Gold's Gym in California...Randy was really cool and friendly, he actually hung out and bullshitted with me and my friend for a while before he started working out. When he took off his sweatshirt the guy was shreaded. And yes, his voice sounds like that in real life.
That's Bryan Adams (Crush) over my right shoulder. Nobody cared about him.
That's 'cause it's on the "Before They Were Superstars vol. 2" DVD. My bad.Quote:

Yes! On Smackdown we got to see Chuck Palumbo do...THE JUNGLE KICK!!!11one
Sorry, that's just what his superkick finisher was called in WCW...gayest name ever. I don't know what he calls it now, but it'll always be the Jungle Kick to me.
I liked Cena's line about bouncing Heyman faster than an ECW check. :)
OH. THAT'S why I had no clue what that meant... because I don't tend to remember the acronymns of shows that suckQuote:

From 411wrestling:
Ouch.Quote:
The Rundown finished the year with $47.6 million in domestic gross and $4 million in foreign gross. The estimated movie costs including production and marketing sits at $110 million, which puts the movie deep in the red. Of course, strong DVD sales can turn things around.
The average at best success of The Rundown is causing people in Hollywood to second guess The Rock as a bonafide box office draw and leading man. Many are also questioning his selection of roles. If Walking Tall does not do very well, most in Hollywood feel that the Rock will be back to square one.
The rock has better acting talent on the mic then he does in movies. Seeing his next film bomb will actually be a good thing.
How come Michael Cole looks more and more like Tod Pentingail (or whatever his last name was) every day?
That's the dumbest thing I've heard of. All the LOTRs together took around 100 million to shoot. 411 never cited sources on any of their figures and obviously has no idea what they're talking about. A lead actor is not solely responsible or held accountable for bringing the fans in to a movie. The only thing they're responsible for is fulfilling their role. The burden of a film bombing is on producers, who usually blames the director. The movie opened to a great box office avail, so the Rock did draw his fans in.
Secondly, The Rundown has yet to run in international markets. I believe the official launch for The Rundown oversea's is sometime in February. Domestic is American. I bet you the 4 million (which probably is inaccurate) was earned from the Canadian marketplace. Whoever wrote the article (and I can't stress enough how much I don't care who wrote it) didn't do his research and is probably bitter from the fact that The Rock left him.
But lets play his game and assume The Rundown costs 100 trillion to make. It was a critical success. He is the best action star around in the market today. He drew a huge opening box office number and that's all you can ask for from a star. A star can draw initially, but it's the word of mouth from the people after the movie that will bring everybody else. Everybody likes The Rock, critically and draw wise, still. He was almost named one of the Top 20 Most Wanted Males in People magazine (I Believe). The Rock is a movie star whether they would like it or not.
Wrestling journalism is so ridiculously dumb.
When you see actors getting $20 mil contracts, film studios are almost 70-90% counting on them to draw interest in audience attendence and if they fail to make a hit at the box, they point their fingers at them first and formost. That's sadly how the economics with the studios works.Quote:

I was kinda wondering how his skills were coming along since the last time I've seen him on the mic. He's good for action films, but still too young to be even in the same leage with golden globe nominees, plus I don't think he's taken any acting lessons aside from WWE. I'm just praying he won't do as bad as from what I heard in Mummy 2.Quote:

Andrew, all 411 did for that was what they do for all of their news: copy/paste it from sites that may or may not be reputable. Also, I didn't get to see SD last night due to it being pre-empted for basketball.
Voltz: No, it isn't. Producers and executives are the ones who take risks. It may hurt his ability to get a 20 million dollar payoff, but it's not going to effect his career. He drew the 30 million some odd dollars for the first weekend. After that its the direction of the story that spread to word of mouth.
See a recent example in Pirates of the Caribbean. I really think it's cute how you gave me a % and everything though.
The Rundown has yet to go oversea's at all. At the most that movie should've cost about 50 million to shoot with The Rocks salary.
Golden Globe nomination? You're expecting an action star to get a golden globe nomination? Please see the list, I believe diffx posted in cinemania. These movies don't get nominations. They're mindless action movies with a bit of style.Quote:

ROTK itself cost $94 million. Each movie in the trilogy had a budget of $100 million.
Ahh, my mistake then.
But the fact still remains, voltz, it hasn't even debuted oversea's yet. It made 50 million in the states and had a budget of 85 million. People just hate The Rock for leaving him.
It was actually quite a gamble on the part of New Line, but it paid off big-time.
There wasn't a gamble if you looked at its history of selling.
Selling what?
The books. It's one of the highest selling books in the world. If I'm not mistaken like I just was with the rundown budget, it is the 2nd best selling book behind the Bible. In the early 90's when it was put on the shelves it sold like crazy. That encouraged other fantasy and fiction writers to release their own counterparts to it, which didn't sell the high volumes they had hoped for.
There's ALWAYS been something about the Lord of the Rings that made everybody crazy. Translating it to film was a large gamble, but even if the movies were complete piles of shit, I doubt New Line would be eating right now.
Where are your sources?
The second best selling book in history is Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung. The Lord of the Rings trilogy isn't even in the top ten, according to the The Top Ten of Everything by Russell Ash.
As for the movies, it was indeed a gamble. Every time anything LotR was put on the screen it was utter crap. Why do you think no one wanted to make the films before now? Peter Jackson himself said he was a bit intimidated because he was afraid of not doing the books justice.
*Edited for source link.
lol.
el'pwno
Cena vs. Rhyno was alright on Smackdown.
I even pointed out that I might be wrong there. The point was that the books sold a shit load back in the day. My 'source' was a TV show I saw on The Space Channel up here in Canada. I guess it was a risk if they made the movies pieces of shit. But if they were good and based off of an age old tale, chances are it would do pretty well.
Just bought the Mick Foley : Greatest Hits and Misses dvd at Best Buy. So far it's pretty cool. Just started the ECW stuff, Cactus Jack vs. Sabu.
Oddly enough, the release date for this is this Tuesday. Oops.
I've never spent money on anything wwe related outside of a couple of ppvs, and a few live shows...
I think I'm gonna buy the Foley dvd though.
I'm going to snag the Foley DVD when I can, the logo blurring on the Funk match wasn't too bad, so I'm hopeful it's that way for the rest of the matches on the DVD set that aren't already on the original Foley DVD. Also, SD is showing tonight for me, which works out well in a way because I'll be able to go right from SD to Adult Swim.
I finally got to see all of a Raw last night, it was pretty good, considering nothing really happened other than Royal Rumble hype.
Randy Orton is king. I loved how everytime he almost got eliminated he would look at the floor like it was a pool with pirana in it, or Mae Young's tits. And of course shitting himself when it was him and Goldberg one on one.
Royal Rumble prediction:
I say John Cena takes it.
Orton is great...he's good in the ring, good on the mic, and he has all those little mannerisms that all the greats have (like GohanX said, the shit he was doing in the battle royale). He's going to be a huge star. Too bad he's just getting this big push to groom him as a future opponent for Triple H.
Man, Goldberg looks like some crazy moutain man with the full beard. It just looks stupid with the bald head and all. And man, was he sloppy in the battle royale...
Good to see Matt Hardy still getting shit on. :( At least the Matt Facts are back.
RVD rules.
Adding Test to Goldberg vs. Steiner annoyed me, but whatever.
I really loved Raw last night, and Orton was fantastic. Jeriicho was awesome as well, and Goldberg (who's growing the beard for a movie) looked good in the ring as well. Coach was great as GM too, and the Rumble was hyped up really well.
What movie?Quote:

It's a pity match because Brock broke his neck a year ago. He'll get the match, probably win on DQ, and never be heard from again. Holly sucks.
Holly has had sporatic pushes over the years, remember when he
had the big shot moniker? That never went anywhere. Holly is
Big and Vince likes that, but he benifited from the botched
powerbomb. I don't think anyone considers him World Champion
material, but he has held many championships in the WWE.
Have you seen Pioneer's ECW Cactus Jack DVD? It has some of his greatest interviews, including some anti-hardcore promos that are great. I didn't think the Sabu and Jack battles were as legendary as everyone makes them out to be but the Mikey Whipwreck vs Jack in his last ECW match Wow! Sad that Mikey never made it to the WWE and never went anywhere in WCW. I'll have to check out this new Foley DVD though.Quote:

I-C champ too and he's held the tag-belts and hardcore belt
numerous times.
No, he was never the I-C champ, officially. I wish they had counted that reign though, just because it would have been neat. Also, he'd be perfect for the U.S. title now, since it been devalued quite a bit, and he's beaten the Big Show, which is pretty cool to see considering how he was booked against him nearly five years ago with that Big Shot gimmick.
SD was pretty good tonight, with Heyman in the beach chair ruling the show. Chavo Sr. looked really good in the ring, all things considered, and took some nice bumps. Angle's eye "injury" was done well, and it should be fun to see Angle and Eddie's feud get going. Hearing Angle say that Eddie will never win the WWE title because he can't control his Latino Heat was great, and gave me hope towards Eddie actually winning the title at some point.
Rumble is tomorrow, and I'll be there (along with Chux and a few others). Anyone else going? If so, we should meet up.
I'll be bringing this again:
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/a...achmentid=5526
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/a...achmentid=5525
I bring no signs, just my sunny disposition.
TNL 4LIFE! *plays NWO music*
I'll look for that sign when I buy the DVD in a month for $20. Saw Armageddon 2003 for $16, and nearly bought it before I saw about a dozen or so more copies at the same price. Opted to get an out-of-print DVD instead.
Beware of the Foley DVD! I've had two separate copies, and both of them skip and lock up on the first DVD.
It sucks. :(
Any chance that it's your player? I haven't heard of this problem so far.
Well, it's done it on three different players, so yeah.
Wow, that's kind of disheartening. Thanks for the warning. Also, Confidential ruled tonight, with quite a bit of rare footage shown, including footage of Benoit breaking Sabu's neck, and footage of Benoit, Malenko, and Eddie in WCW.
They also showed that awful LT vs Bigelow match. LT had only 2
moves he could do.
That match was pretty good all things considered. The only part of it I've ever outright despised was his "powerbomb."
That was a powerbomb? it looked like he just threw/dropped him on his head. I liked Bigelow and his promised huge push and face turn went down the drain due to the Click playing politics. I enjoyed his short lived fued with Goldberg in WCW. Bam Bam should have a final run in the WWE an go after HHH.
Grrrr... once again fate is conspiring against me watching the PPV. Cable company won't let me order it... the WWE shopzone site isn't working properly so it's giving me a fit ordering it... but I shall prevail!
Somehow...
wow, the winner of the rumble just sucked. tho i loved the old undertaker music for the few seconds it lasted :)

Yes, definitely, they built this amazingly well with everyone teaming up at various points to eliminate Show but were unable to do it, then have him go on that huge run at the end eliminating Angle, Cena, RVD, & Jericho before Benoit was finally able to topple him with that unbeleivable headlock. :) Everyone at the place I was watching at just exploded in a massive frenzy of marking out when Benoit one, my God was it ever overdue. This better lead to a title run for the guy and not him just being turned into yet another HHH job boy. :mad:Quote:

All-in-all a pretty good way to start 2004 :D

But, yeah, the Taker teaser music and Goldberg killing Nunzio were pretty fun to watch.
They wrote it well too. As soon as it was Angle - Big Show and Benoit left I knew who the winner was going to be. But up until that point I hadn't a clue if Benoit was going to make it. I thought that they were focusing the promos too much on him and it would be too obvious. The reason I was pretty certain was because they had built him up to be the guy who got out all the big guys like Henry, that other big guy..etc.
I went to a Famous Players theatre (which is owned by Viacom), and the theatre errupted where I was too. People just want to see Benoit win and get his due. Also, people LOVE Cena. I can see why too, that thing he did with his pumps was amazing. (he did that off the rope fist-drop... but pumped up his shoes before he did it)
They also hated Goldberg too. And these are casual kids now, not these fancy internet people. (some of them probably were, but most looked like your average wrestling fan)
Oh and to me, the Undertaker is like Billy Gunn. He makes comebacks every 2 months and it was old when he did the first one.
rag why would benoit be a HHH job boy? he'd fight Brock. and my reasoning i think him winning was stupid is i KNOW it will go nowhere. all of his pushes have gone nowhere just like RVD.
that was so funny when cena was doing his promo and rvd just pops in front of the camera smiling. and when the cat was dancing i just sat there hoping for someone to destroy him. i was laughing my ass off the whole dance.
BENOIT WON! BENOIT WON! OMG! :wtf:
Very happy to see that, I just did NOT expect it at all. I love the way the whole Rumble went down, and there wasn't some bullshit ending to it.
Dyne, he's going to Raw.
Andrew, he's done that shoe pump thing before, and it always rules.
Holy shit...maybe I should start watching again.Quote:

wonder how long it'll take him to grow the hair back if that IS what they're waiting on. man, one more run as the unstoppable force that made him (instead of that bullshit deadman inc shit) will go over really well with me. my buddy i was watching it with was like "wheres undertaker" and i said i had heard they were waiting to bring him back as the phenom and when the bells hit we just looked at each other and smiled. man that was cool.

The problem is that it WON'T be "just one more run." Fucker's turning into Hogan. I suggest you pull a switch when it comes to who you're bitching about getting another push.
At least when Mick comes back every few months, it isn't to win the title.
Jack Tunney passed away on Saturday. He was great in his role as the President of the WWF, and was used SPARINGLY so that his actions MEANT SOMETHING.
