I've recently been playing a lot of NES games, trying to relive some games I remember as a kid. It's a lot of fun but I want to try some games that I possibly never played.
I downloaded Shadow of the Ninja which I heard was great and it is.
What are some of your favourite NES games?
I really want to try and find a pawn shop around here with an actual NES for sale, buy it and get a new 72 pin connector. Do you guys know any half decent online sites that sell NES sytems?

I've found that 97% of all great NES games just suck now. The only thing NES has going for it is nostalgia, and hot topic hipsters.

Napalm is right (shudder). Most of these games are horrible and were worthless by 1990, let alone 2006. Every single genre the NES did was done better by 16-bit (similar to PSX/Sat/N64 vs. PS2/Xbox/GC). But 3% of the NES "classics" library is still a decent handful of solid games.

I agree(except maybe for the action/puzzle genre). Some were done better on other formats in the 8-bit era too. That doesn't mean there isn't a good number of NES games still worth playing. A lot of NES games didn't have 16-bit sequels and these games often don't feel as dated.Quote:

One area of the NES library I didn't fully appreciate until later is its ports of pre-NES arcade games. Donkey Kong Junior is awesome and has improved controls over the arcade and Gyruss is quality remake, for examples. I didn't bother much with the NES versions back in the day much because I had played them so many times on previous systems and I wanted to play the newer stuff more at the time.
'Favourite' is the Canadian way of spelling that. Also the British way. Pretty much the way for every English speaking country who follow the English language rules.
As for NES all sucking? That's completely untrue. I've spent the last week re-discovering NES games and a lot of them are extremely fun but just because we have better technologically sound games now doesn't mean they weren't great in their time.
That's like saying well Einstein is old news now, so whatever he said must be a null and void.
Some of the posts in this topic are extremely helpful though and I thank you for that! Time to get on ebay and hunt down some of these.

You can find a translated rom out there. Very worth it. Just a yr ago I used to play this daily for months. So fun.
I guess that's where the opinion differs. Something to me still holds its value even if it's outdated. It still was great. I don't rate a NES game on the same points I rate a PS2 game. That's just silly. One was made as basic shapes and colours. Another has characters who look almost real.Quote:

I've been playing both. I kind of favour TWW right now but I think my favourite NES game is WCW Wrestling. Once you the controls down, it's a lot of fun. Plus finishers! I think it's the first wrestler game with them! :link:Quote:

My favorite NES game that not enough people talk about would would have to be Legacy of the Wizard. Excellent good exploration and use of multiple characters to reach previously inaccessible terrain - one of the first games I can remember pulling this off in an inticining way. The challenge level and graphics qualities are all top notch as well.
I think I'll look to find copies of Super Mario 2, Maniac Mansion, Ninja Turtles 1 & 2, Wrestlemania Challenge and a couple other titles I remember enjoying a lot.
I see Super Mario for NES on ebay is a bit crazy. Some high, some low.
I don't care what anybody says, I was so happy when Hot Topic started selling Nintendo shirts in girl's sizes. I always wanted shirts like that and now they finally make them. Fuck the haters.
