This also pleases me.
This game will never come to America. The Xbox Live functionality seals that, as it would make too much sense from a game standpoint. That and the PS2 version sold all of what, eight copies?
So, uh, yippie?

O-Well! I was wondering what happened to him.
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this. Culdcept on 360 + Live = best thing ever.
The game will be a system seller for me.
I actually went back to playing Culdcept II after hearing the announcement of Saga. Always loved it, but stopped in the middle of the campaign. I'm determined to finish it this time though.
Agreed. I can't imagine they wouldn't bring it over, with the disparity in system sales.Quote:

Yeah, chances are pretty slim that they bring it over, but I really hope that they do. How many copies did the PS2 Culdcept sell? I'm pretty sure it was a bit more than 8 (I know you were being sarcastic ;)). Still, doesn't it have kind of a cult following? But who knows...
Eh, I might grab a 360 in Japan when this comes out. What are the systems selling for over there now?
The same price as here, but they come with a free thirteen year old girl.Quote:

Whoa whoa whoa. A medal system is stopped? I don't like the sound of that.
Does that mean they're considering it for an American release?Quote:

This really needs to come out here. I kept seeing Culdcept for Ps2 at my local EB for over a year or so. I told myself I'd just get it the next time I came in...and after finally snatching it up I wish I had a long damn time ago.
I haven't played the game, but judging from the praise I've been reading, it seems great. LIVE play seals the deal for an eventual purchase.
it's official!
Namco Bandai America representatives confirmed for GameSpot that Culdcept Saga is in fact slated for a North American release. While the Monopoly-meets-Magic card-battling series has had success on multiple platforms in Japan, it has made only a single appearance domestically, the 2003 Culdcept on the PlayStation 2.

"The Magic Box" is sometimes introducing the report of "Game Watch" in Japan.
Since no one really replied to your question (skittles, yes yes), it's basically a trading card board game. The best way to put it is a cross between Monopoly and Magic the Gathering.Quote:

It's like Monopoly in that you roll dice, move your piece onto land, and have the option to acquire that land. The land is also upgradeable. If an enemy ends up on your land, they have to pay resources to you, which helps you to acquire or upgrade more land. Reach a certain minimum and you win the game.
But the catch is that you acquire land by casting creature cards and having them occupy those land spaces. Land and creatures are colored. Sticking a blue creature on blue land will net defensive bonuses. Having your own creatures on adjacent pieces of land will net offensive bonuses. So when an opponent lands on your space, he can cast a creature card to fight your creature for one round. If you kill his card in that one round, his card is destroyed. If neither is killed in one round, the card goes back to his hand, but he has lost the casting cost. Both of these cases result in him losing resources for landing on your space. But if he manages to kill you in that one round, he now becomes the owner of your land.
That's basically the gist of it. There is a lot more to it because in addition to creature cards, you have all kinds of spell cards, and offense/defense boosters. There's also non-land squares you can land on with different effects. Plus every stage's board layout and resource goal is different as well.
You begin the game with a certain pool of random cards. From there, as you play matches, you receive more. If you win a match, you receive more cards than if you lost it... but either way, you still gain cards when you complete a
match. You can customize your deck anytime.
There's a lot of strategy to Culdcept, and it's just plain fun. Culdcept II on Dreamcast/PS2 had an online component too, but the US version stripped that out. So Culdcept Saga will be the first US Culdcept game with online play. <3
No. Nocturne was asking, "What DOES this game like?" I believe Skittles is the only acceptable answer.
I like skittles too.

Yes. Your forum. We know.
It's a shame the trailer focused so much on the game's shitty story. I wanted to see how they'd work the menus and some card art.
VERY nice to see that we can tell which critter's on which square by looking at them now, though.
I always loved the concept for culdcept but I was never fond of what a total cheat the computer could be. So here's hoping the fix the whole "cmputer magically getting cards that rape you until you bleed to death" thing. But what do I care I have no plans on buying a 360 so it really doesn't matter.
The computer doesn't cheat.
You know what I mean, the challenge is way out there. Fine than how about they tone down how "lucky" the computer is.Quote:

This experiment has taken the data of Zeneth and a player in 2 times of 2Players games.
Does the shown table have many rates which stop at which land? Moreover, is it easy to come out of the number of dices?
In this result, a difference probable between Z (Zeneth) and P (Player) is within the limits of an error.
But even if this result is shown, it is meaningless if a user does not believe.
However, as an opinion of Omiya, the charm of Culdcept is Human's match.
It is said that there is no meaning which adds the program of deception for A.I. specially.
"Culdcept Saga" supports XBOX Live and is strongly conscious of Human's match.
*1: Culdcept of PS2 is called "Culdcept II Expantion" in Japan.
lol A footnote in a forum post.
So, is there a date for this yet? Now that I've got a 360, this is the game to get.
Chao, when I play you at this and beat you, you HAVE to change your gamertag to 'weeaboo', understand?
Same goes for you, Finch. Except yours will be 'weeabootu'
It's probably taken.
DO I LOOK LIKE I CARE!?
What does weeaboo even mean?
I like that site. Thanks.
That word was only funny in the most contextual sense where it was "created" in the PBF. I find it pretty stupid that it was taken to mean anything more than that, especially things contrary to its original context.
Nonetheless, that site is sorta handy in a geek-culture reference way.
What the fuck is so sacred about a word from an obscure comic strip that it can't be used in a different context? The dictionary is filled to bursting with everyday words we use now that began as something in a completely different context. Ever said 'okay'? Sure you have. Were you talking about a misspelling of all correct (oll korrect) or the 1840 Presidential Race in which Dem supporters of Martin van Buren called him 'Ole Kinderhook'? No? Well then I find it pretty stupid that you took it to mean anything more than that.
...Or is it?
I wished I liked Culdcept more.
Too much randomness and monopoly influences for me.
:(
Try Shadows of the Tusk for Saturn. It has the same board game/collectible card game vibe but has no randomness at all. It's more like a cross between Magic the Gathering and chess.
It's funny you say that, because I was saying to my brother the other day I wish there was more randomness. So many of the battles are a predetermined affair mathematically that the only real strategy comes from item bluffing and mind games. With the risk of making things too complicated, I hope in the new version creatures have a range of damage (like, 3d10, 2d6 etc), and more ways to influence the battle numbers (supports, global effects, or whatever...expand on what's already in the game). I suppose die randomness can be sucky, but there's so many cards to influence movement that you might not be making that a priority. Also, don't play on maps without branches...I find luck plays a larger role there.
That's keeping things in perspective.
Seemingly it is sale officially on May 7.
However, if bugs are not repaired, it is unknown whether it is true.
Is that some kind of riddle?

DAY ONE.
It's almost worth buying for the Achievements alone.
There's still hope for a decent card game on DS!
Stolen from Magicbox:
- Sega announced Culdcept DS for Nintendo DS, latest work of the trading card board game, and also as a celebration of the series' 10th anniversary.
I spent A LOT of time with the PS2 version. I hope to God this gets released over here.
and that it doesn't suck. I'm looking at you card fighters clash.
I stayed away from CFC because of the bug and bad reviews. Is it that horrible? And I am looking forward to CS.
Shame culdcept has the horrible monopoly-esque random board elements. :(
Luck and randomness are a part of all card and board games. It's inherent; there's really no way around it.
I bought the Capcom Version CFC NGPC game from... someone on here recently. I need to start that. Everyone says how good it is.
But yes, Culdcept is awesome. I didn't give the PS2 rev nearly enough attention. I'll probably end up with both the DS and 360 versions.
There were many times where I got absolutely PISSED at the way everything seemed to conveniently work for the computer and totally against me. However, there were also many times where all the stars seemed to align just right for me and I'd whomp the shit out of the game.
You are incorrect here homey.
There are many board and card games that have none, or very little randomness involved.
Don't get me wrong, I love the random element in games (not to mention rolling a bunch of dice is great fun) . But when too much of the game is based around sheer randomness then it's not my thing.
I don't like monopoly for the exact reason I didn't enjoy Culdcept.
And it's not like I'm not a huge boardgame, cardgame, ccg, roleplaying, tabletop wargame, and videogame board or cardgame geek.
It really is amazing, you need to give it a try.
Demo is up on Live.
Sweet, thanks for the heads up.
Played it this morning, and it's not much different from its PS2 iteration. I'm sure there's a lot more to it, along with some balancing, but as far as how the game plays in the demo it's identical.
Still want it for online play and the inevitable slew of new cards.
Aw shit I can't wait to get home to play this.
Is there multiplayer in the demo?
Online multi on the demo would be sweet. I've been waiting for this game for a long time.
I guess today is the day I finally sign up for XB Live.
how do the load times in the demo compare to the ps2 version? I hated how slow it was.
It's a demo running of the HDD. There's practically no load times.
Comes out this week.
The demo was alright, and Ive never played culdcept on the PS2, but Ill probably pick this up.
I did feel like on the demo the AI was privy of some rules that I wasnt told. For example before two of our cards would do battle on a certain tile, there would be times when the computer could double-up/team-up to make it two of their cards vs. my one or some shit, And I definitely couldnt select this option as the other "fighter" cards in my hand were grayed out.
I never played Culdcept too besides the demo on Live. I liked it a lot so I'm leaning towards getting it eventually. As far as I can tell from playing the demo, cards that has the support attribute can have backup monsters to help them out. I think those furry white things had the ability to do that.
That's a creature-specific ability called Support. Anyone with it can "equip" any other creature in your hand as they would a sword or armour. Note that only the stats carry over, not abilities. If your Woodfolk were to equip a Harpy, it would get the Harpy's +30/+30, but would not inherit its First Strike.
I've been playing the PS2 Culdcept for years, and I still don't know exactly how all of the abilities and status effects work. The order of actions in battles is extremely vague, and it doesn't help that the in-game manual is a clusterfuck of ambiguity and syntax error. The errata in the Saga demo is already head and shoulders above that of NEC's botched PS2 translation, though.
This is called Support.
Creatures with Support can play creatures in your hand as items during battle. For example, a 20/40 creature with the Support ability can play a 40/40 creature in his controller's hand, adding +40/40 to his attack/defense.
The Support creature does not gain the abilities of the creature played in support (e.g. first attack), at least not under normal circumstances.
edit: jinx!
Every competitive deck out their runs Sonson, who does in fact gain the abilities of the creatures that support him. I'm not sure why they just didn't call the 'support' mechanic the "sonson effect", because that's really the only context anyone will be discussing support anyway. If Sonson's in the this new version, the online game is going to boil down to nothing but Sonson-combo and anti-Sonson decks unless there's some sort of ranked way to limit its use.
What's so broken about Son? You don't have to build a counter deck based entirely around beating him, you can beat his ass with cards found in any deck. Nike, Decoy, Gremlin, Hyde <3, Waste, Turn to the Wall, and Evil Blast immediately come to mind. I don't think I have a deck that doesn't include at least one of those.
Secondly, where are you getting this knowledge of high level play? I've been looking for a page that lists decks used in national tournaments for a long time. I need the Culdcept analogue of shoryuken.com, but I don't think such a place exists in English.
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I realize how awesome Sonson really is. Support him with dumbass cards like Vampire or Decoy -- there's no Shattering that shit. Damn.
That's right.
There used to be some Culdcept forums I would go to, but I'm pretty sure they were died off because all the strategy discussion revolved around either how great Son Ascetic was, or lamenting only being able to include four in any given deck. Personally, I like to combine Son Ascetic with Squonk, so when Squonk's power procs, I can play Son Ascetic 3-4 times more than usual before reshuffle, effectively simulating have 8 in my deck. The extra 30 HP never hurts either.
Does this mean you guys are getting this game?
