Check out Bansky, a graffiti artist who can't even attend his own exhibitions out of fear of being arrested. You may remember him for how he recently hung his own paintings up in a bunch of major art galleries, or for tagging a herd of cows .He does this really awesome politically charged stencil art like this:

He also created the art for Blurs Thinktank album.
Tim Biskup does some amazing stuff.
Ippei Gyoubu's cool.
I really like Dave the Chimp's stuff for Flying Fortress.
In general, I like the more character-oriented art movement that's sprung up recently.
p.s. Gary Baseman is way overrated.
If you want photography, I definently recommend Cindy Sherman. Absolutely phenomenal artist, actress and photography. Few people are as dedicated to their work as she is.

I love some of the old early 1900's movie/show posters, I have a lot of them framed and up in my apartment.
